Color Dipped DIY Wall Art

You might remember me sharing this fun project on DIY Candy last month, but I just had to share it again with you all! This was such a great project for me because it included two of my favorite things: thrifting and creating!  Materials Art Spray Paint (in any color to suit your space) Painters tape Garbage bag Directions 1. Tape off the section you would like to spray paint. Wrap the remainder of your art in a garbage bag to protect from the paint. 2. Spray your art with your paint. Let dry completely between layers until you have the desired tone. 3. Carefully remove tape and garbage bag. 4. Touch up where needed (sometimes the spray paint bleeds through, I find a magic eraser takes off those spots easily).  I think this would be a great project to do for a craft night! You could meet at your local thrift store, grab some art (it doesn’t even have to be pretty) and have a lot of fun adding a splash of color to really rejuvenate your piece once more. I would love to do this on a wall at home as a statement piece with either one color palette or just a bunch of vivid colors that really pop. How fun would that be?!  Happy Monday friends!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,... read more

Sneak Peek | Living Room

You may have noticed that I’m slowly sharing pictures of our new home with you. So far, these are just the befores. We have much work ahead of us – especially painting. But I thought it would be fun to give you another sneak peek. Last week I gave you a glimpse of our dining room and today I thought I’d show you our living room!  I feel like this space has so much potential. The big windows at the front of our house brings in so much light. I am SO happy we have a fireplace in this home. That was one of the things I was looking for when we were shopping houses. Plus, it’s wood burning, so our Christmas season will surely be cozy!  Since our home is a bi-level, we have two living rooms essentially. We use our basement living room as our family room. Meaning, we can make this space a little more adult-friendly and design this space freely! We’ve already started playing around with design concepts, project ideas and decor options.  With the addition of our new couch, this space is starting to feel a little more inviting. I can’t wait to share more of what we have planned with you for this room, but for now what do you think?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Thrifted Chrome and Faux Walnut Round Table

Since moving into our new home, our list of to-dos keeps growing! From painting, to changing out lighting to putting new flooring in. These things will eventually happen, but for now we are doing what we can and making do!  Our kitchen has a significant amount of space compared to our previous one. We plan on building a breakfast nook and so we’ve been on the look out for a table that’s big enough for our family to eat small meals together, but not too big as to take up all the kitchen space.  While thrifting around town, we stumbled upon this chrome and faux walnut round table that was the perfect size. It’s a bit more commercial than we had hoped, but for $15 we couldn’t be picky! It fits perfectly in the space and doesn’t look too bad with our chairs and decor.  So far, it’s been great for the kids to enjoy their breakfasts in the mornings. We’ve had dinner as a family a few times and have enjoyed this little space in our kitchen! We hope to have a built in bench soon with extra storage to go along with this table soon. I think it will make it look a little more cozy!  The chrome and faux walnut are always a lovely match, but I’ve been wondering…should we paint the table top white or leave as is? The walls will also be white and the flooring will also be replaced down the road. For now, I think this space serves it’s purpose and I’m just so happy for all the extra room we have in... read more

Choosing A Vintage Sofa

I decided to share with you some simple tips on how to choose a vintage sofa! If you are anything like me, buying vintage is a little more risky and tedious, whereas, buying new you usually know what to expect and you can always return it if it’s not quite right for your space. Believe me, I’ve been searching for a loooooong time for that perfect piece. But when you do finally find the right one – it’s magic!  You may have guessed, but yes, we found the perfect mid century sofa! Three things to keep in mind: Texture, Shape and Color. When I was shopping around, I always had these three things in mind. I’ll break it down for you so you can see where my thought process is at!  Texture: This is a great addition to any sofa – whether it be velvet, tweed or leather! Keep in mind all the other pieces you have in your space. You don’t want too much texture and you always want to keep balance. I love layering rugs, so I get a lot of texture from our cowhide and wool rug, plus the million sheep skins laying around! I knew that my dream of a blue velvet was over…for now.   Shape: If you are going to be spending a lot of time (and maybe money) less is always more. Stick to classic shapes and designs that will go with the rest of your space for years to come! If you stick to a more classic design, chances are you can change out pillows, rugs, coffee tables, art, drapes and so much more... read more

Sneak Peek | Dining Room

It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve moved! I can’t believe how fast time flies, but we have been super busy every day since I’ve taken a little hiatus from the web. I thought it would only be fair to show you a little sneak peek of what we’ve been up to.  I decided to show you a few pictures of our home, starting with the dining room, since moving in. This room has so much space and even has access to our deck which wraps around to the back of the house. The sliding doors allow so much light, which was a huge selling feature for me.  The space fits our mid century cabinet, which use to hide in our tiny kitchen in our old house. Not to mention, this piece happens to match our new dining table perfectly that we got for free from a lovely lady from our old church – thanks again Nancy! It’s huge and can fit anywhere from 4 to 12 people. I’ve decorated a little here and there, mostly displaying our pottery collection, paint by numbers (the top and bottom one I scored from Salvation Army here in Canada for $3) and a few other fun thrifted pieces.  The walls are a light mint green, which call me crazy, kind of go with our decor and style. Eventually, we plan on painting the upstairs space white to brighten it up more and add contrast with our hardwood floors. For now, it’s not bad. We also plan on adding another fun light fixture to our dining space, but that will also come a little later. ... read more

Wallpaper Inspired By Fall

Today is the big day! We are moving into our new home! It’s all still so surreal, I can hardly believe it. On Sunday, we had the pleasure of meeting the previous home owners and they gave us a little tour of our soon-to-be home. They were a wonderful couple who had lived in this house 20+ years. They raised their kids in this home and neighborhood and now they were passing it onto us. I felt emotional for them just thinking about it. They have loved and taken care of this house for years and you can really tell!  Naturally, we are making plans of how to make this house a home for us now. There are a few things we would like to do sometime in the next coming weeks. And since fall is quickly approaching, I picked out a few wallpaper designs inspired by the next season ahead! Perhaps an accent wall in our dining room? We are still in the early stages of deciding! I’m still kind of tempted to paint an accent wall black….so many choices. 1 2 3 4 5 6  Which one would you prefer? But seriously, I’m kind of loving this design – it’s very retro inspired and I can seriously see this on a wall in our dining room!  And lastly, we might skip wallpaper altogether and just paint an accent wall black like the one below. So many choices, I can’t decide! Thank you for being so patient as we’ve been undergoing A LOT of change!!! I’ll be posting before pictures soon, so stay tuned. There are a lot of... read more

We’re Moving!

If you haven’t heard it officially, then WE’RE MOVING! Yes, we are beyond excited! I have loved this California life for the past seven years, but it’s time to move on to new adventures back in our home land.  But as excited as I am, this is not going to be easy. I am leaving behind a lot of amazing people and a lot of amazing memories. This has been home to us for many years. This is where our children were born and their sisters still live. And my heart breaks all over again thinking of that separation. I do not doubt God’s will in all of this, which is why I leave knowing there is a bigger picture. I’ve seen it already begun, I know there will be a good end.  So, we’ve packed up our lives in 200+ boxes and bins. No, seriously. I’ve numbered them. And not because I’m organized like that, but because immigrating into Canada isn’t a breeze just because you’re Canadian. There are SO many things I did not anticipate, so we are taking it a day at a time. I look at this empty house. The empty walls. I look outside my windows and breath in all that I can. The blue skies. The bright sun. The palm trees. How lucky are we that we lived in this beautiful state, this country. We’ve had a really good life here – for that, I am forever blessed. And because these are such memorable times, I am going to be stepping away from the blog for a week or so. I need that time to... read more

Modern Mountain Dresser

It’s been pretty busy around here lately! Don’t ask me where we find the time to do these DIYs, but we do. And to be honest, it’s kind of a nice way to relieve a lot of stress from packing and the idea of moving to another country in under a week.  We’ve had this dresser from IKEA for ages. I’ve always had plans to paint it at some point, but never had the time. Until now…go figure! I decided to revamp it now, since it’s empty and the house is clearing out. That way, it won’t be hanging over my head when we get to the new house.  I originally planned on having it in Violet’s room, but I decided to give her our mid century dresser in our dining room. The boys will have no problem sharing this one! Plus, it gave me an excuse to paint it black to match their new room design I’m currently working on.  I simply used the same steps as my Revamped IKEA Organizer, but this time I taped top to bottom so it was mountain-like in shape. I removed the drawers and sprayed a few layers of black spray paint. When they had completely dried, I removed the tape and placed the drawers back in the dresser! It really took no time at all!  I love the modern mountain look…it’s very geometric and abstract. It’s going to look great with all the other pieces in their new room! Can’t wait to have it all set up and show you the end result. What do you think of their new revamped... read more
