Mid Century Desk Organizer

We recently came across this cute mid century desk organizer at Salvation Army. I think we paid $1 for it…how can you say no?! It was a little worn and scratched up, so we put some new life in it again!   We sanded it and re-stained it, as well as gave the brass some shine! I love how it looks like new. You just don’t see organizers like this anymore – I especially love it paired with my Revamped Green and Gold Desk!  I try to keep organized when I can. I can have my to-do lists and sketch books handy. As well as pens, tape and other easy to find pieces! It’s great not having to rummage through the drawers or panic when I need to find something in a hurry.   Not to mention, it’s a great way to add a little color and texture to the desktop! I can work efficiently and in style. Love those mid century touches, no matter how big or little! What do you think?! XOXO, Lidy  Feel free to leave a comment! Revamped Green and Gold Desk

This weekend, I had a lot of fun giving an old piece of furniture a fresh and modern look! I’ve been trying to sell this desk before we moved for a couple weeks, but I just wasn’t getting a whole lot of interest.   A few years ago I bought it for my studio space to work from. Soon after, we got placement of Holden and Violet and the room quickly became a nursery and the desk collected nothing but dust. It’s an arts and craft design, with your typical light oak finish – something I’m really not digging as of late. I personally would want something a bit more trendy if I were on the market for a new desk. I used this as my inspiration and have been a long time fan of campaign furniture! I ALMOST bought this desk to revamp, but just couldn’t justify it when I still had my old one sitting around. Even after all my IG friends voted yes on my new find (sorry guys…). I decided to take the plunge and paint the old one green with some gold accents, because gold just makes everything that much better! I sanded down the desk, wiped it clean and painted the entire piece (I used three cans of spray paint). After the desk dried completely, I taped the legs and drawer handles and painted them gold using liquid gold leaf paint. It dries pretty quickly. For extra protection, I recommend spraying your piece of furniture with clear enamel. I removed the tape and voila!  Now that it’s revamped, I’m wondering….should I sell it or keep it? Revamped IKEA Organizer

I’ve had this organizer for as long as I can remember! As we are packing, I was debating about just giving it away, but it’s really great for storage. So, I decided to revamp it a little with this super simple DIY!  Materials Organizer (mine is a few years old from IKEA) Tape Spray Paint (in any color)  Directions Simply tape your design.  Spray paint the front of the drawers or entire organizer – it’s completely up to you! Let dry in between coats and paint again until you have the desired color you are looking for.  After the paint has completely dried, slowly peel the tape.  Display your new and improved organizer!!  I love the simple transformation. I also love how you can still see the wood grain through the black spray paint. It gives it some great texture!  Now I just need to find a place for this little guy in my little office space in the new house! I can’t wait to share more fun DIYs and design ideas once we move into our new home – stay tuned! Only a couple more weeks until we hit the road and make the long journey to Canada.  P.S. Thrifty Finds: Vintage Rattan Swivel Rocker

I should be purging and packing, but instead I find myself trying to escape all the stress and do a little thrifting! My plan is just to always “look”, which most of the time I do. But my last trip to Salvation Army I spotted this amazing Vintage Rattan Swivel Rocker and I pretty much knew it had to be mine….if the price was right of course!  I saw some on Chairish a while ago that I fell in love with, but sadly they were way out of my price range. Ever since then, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled but they are so rare! I love the 70s vibe and the potential it has. It needs to be refinished and reupholstered, although I don’t find the yellow all that horrible. I’ve even thought about detaching the bottom and converting it into a swing chair – how fun would that be?! Best part is, I only had to pay $30 for this beauty!  For now, I’m dreaming of where I should put it in our new home! I cannot wait to redecorate all that space. I feel so lucky that we get two living room spaces, which means so many possibilities! I even have a space for a studio, so I’m wondering if I should just put this lovely piece in there? We will see!  Have you found anything recently while thrifting that you just couldn’t resist? P.S. There’s still some fun happening for our Back To School Series! Back To School Series| DIY Sequin Planter

For the past five years, Joel has been a fourth grade teacher, among other things – like uber talented handy man at home! I know how hard he works to teach and nurture 30+ elementary students 5 days a week for 10 months of the year! It’s a lot of work and at times, very stressful. So to start the school year on the right foot, I’ve come up with a little DIY Sequin Planter to show your teachers just how much we appreciate what they do all year round! Materials Planter Hot Glue Stretch Sequin Trim in Gold (or other preferred color) Plant Directions Simply clean the surface of your planter and hot glue your sequins to the planter. Wrap tightly around your planter. Secure the end with hot glue. Adjust and secure with hot glue where needed, although it may not be necessary. Place your plant in your new planter and enjoy!  You may choose to add a fun little note! I made a little banner that reads “Happy First Day Of School” and secured it to a pencil simply using tape. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t love to see a little greenery on their desk everyday! Plus, wrapping it in a little bling never hurts. If your teacher happens to be male, no problem! Just wrap it in bacon…just kidding! You can choose a more masculine color of sequins to wrap it in or just some simple ribbon or twine will do.  For more great ideas be sure to head over to The Crafted Life today, where Rachel is sharing some fabulous DIY Color Blocked Pencils!   XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave... read more

Geo Painted DIY Planter

It’s no secret, I’m obsessed with blue! Love it – can’t get enough of it. And what better way to introduce any pop of color into your home with a simple Geo Painted DIY Planter.  Materials Planter Spray Paint (any color) Tape Directions Simply tape a pattern onto your vase. Spray paint your vase. Let dry in between coats. Continue to spray until you have the desired color.  When paint has completely dried, carefully peel your tape off. Don’t worry if the paint bleeds through a little, it happens sometimes. You can wipe with a magic marker or damp cloth.  Display your flower arrangement or plant and enjoy!  I love the look – it’s playful and modern! This little guy is for a special friend of mine! I’ve promised her a plant for a long time! I hope she likes it!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,... read more

Adoption Day

Wow. What a crazy last couple of weeks!! So many things have happened, I can barely believe it. Of course, the most amazing of them all was our adoption finalization! It was an open invitation to all our family and friends – we kind of wanted it that way. It gave everyone an opportunity to be there and didn’t want anyone to be left out! Here are a few pictures of our very special day! A huge thank you to our amazing photographer Lauryn Marette for capturing this day for us.  This last picture really says a thousand words. It represents all those who made it and those in the spirit who wanted to be. This day will be remembered for years to come. We realized how blessed we are. We are always loved. We are always supported. We are always prayed for. Our family truly is blessed! We are so happy for all of you for supporting us during this WHOLE process. For encouraging us when we felt like this was never going to end. For praying for us when we were at a loss for words. For loving us in the tough and dark times. For that, we are forever grateful. And now, we can breathe because we have reached that light at the end of the tunnel! We can smile, laugh and celebrate that we are finally and officially a family! Forever, we are thankful for you all and for the beautiful family God knit together just for us.  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!
