Give Thanks Banner

I decided to whip up a festive banner for our home this Thanksgiving. It’s nothing fancy, but I think it’s cute! I had some fun selection of craft paper left over from my paper pumpkin project.  There were all sorts of lovely colors and patterns to choose from! Simply sketch out the letters for “Give Thanks”. Take some scissors and carefully cut out each letter. Grab some fun twine (mine had some fun streaks of glitter throughout) and tape each letter to the twine. It’s that simple! I added some fun handmade feathers, which I will share the DIY for later this week. I love these kinds of crafts, I can put the kids down for a nap and get it done in a matter of minutes. Then I can catch up on chores around the house afterward!  You can make your letters as big or as little as you would like. It would be so cute as a banner for your Thanksgiving pie – or even a large scale banner for your front porch or window! This project can be a lot of fun!  What kind of fun crafts are you whipping up for your home this season?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Camping Half Birthday Theme

This weekend we successfully threw the kids their first half birthday party! Our theme was camping and it turned out great! We had lots of friends and family come by and celebrate with us – we gathered around the fire and ate lots of tasty treats!  I loved putting the party together! The theme was a lot of fun to play with – we already had so much we could use as props, so we didn’t have to go out and buy a whole lot. It was just the little details that we worked hard on. From the banners, pennants, camping signs, gift bags, labels, food display table, wooden forks, drink station, the mock camp site, to the fishing area – it all came perfectly together!  It was a perfectly cool day, I was so happy! When camping, you should want to throw on some comfy clothes, sit close to the fire and sip back some hot cocoa! And that is exactly what we all had to do – there was this perfect chill in the air! Couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day! The menu was a hit – everyone loved it all! When someone asked for the recipes, I was so proud to tell them it was all from Alaska from Scratch! The kids had fun playing in the tents, eating (of course), playing games and relaxing by the fire. I know they felt special and very loved.  I wouldn’t want to do anything different. It was worth all the hard work, just to see the love that was poured onto them by all. It was... read more

Camping Theme Invitations

One of the most fun aspects of party planning for me was designing the invitations. I’ve been a graphic design student for two years now. I love it and am so passionate about design! So naturally, I was super excited to sit down and sketch out what I wanted on my invite. I wanted it to be fun and untraditional. I picked out a palette that had a bit of a vintage flare to it. I also wanted it to be playful, since it’s for the kids!  I did some research on line to see what kind of clever things I could use as a title for the invites. I decided to go with “Attention Happy Campers” which I’ve seen a few times now. Just a fun day to enjoy a little camping experience! The layout is simple and easy to read. I created a fun vintage tent and a sneak peak of what’s to come at the party: food, crafts, bonfire, s’mores, face painting and so much more!  I used fun envelopes I snagged from Pick Your Plum for a fantastic deal! If you haven’t signed up, you really should! I’ve snagged a few great deals now! I tied some fun glittered twine around the invite and finished it off with a few cute little pompoms just for the heck of it! Only a couple days away and I have so much to do yet, but I’m sure having fun! What do you think of these little invites? Does it channel the idea of camping to you? DIY Camping Pennants

This week I am slowly getting ready for our little ones half birthday. We are so excited to throw them this little celebration – anything to make them feel loved and cared for. Our adoption has been a journey of ups and downs. And in the middle of it all are our two little ones. The most innocent of them all. I want so badly for them to feel like normal kids. Have those fun memories with family and friends. That is my hope for this weekends party!  I am working at getting some of the party decor out of the way. I might have taken on too much, but I am so excited to throw my first little party for our kids. I created these fun camping pennants using pre-cut cardboard triangles, originally intended to make a banner. I decided to turn them into fun pennants by adding some wooden sticks and some fun camping theme pictures made from some scrap paper I found at the craft store. I simply taped the images to the pennants, since I would like to reuse these as banners in the future!  To get them to stand up, I put a floral foam brick in a tin container and covered it with some rustic moss. I am going to use these as fun elements on the tables. I got all these supplies for super cheap. Most of them I found at the dollar store and the dollar section of Target. It’s amazing how easy it is to throw a party without breaking the bank. You just have to keep your eyes... read more

Modern Fall Decor

I have been trying to find some unique ways to dress up the house this fall. I was SUPER inspired by Create Like Crazy for this DIY. They made a gorgeous wheat and color beaded center piece. I so badly wanted to make my own version of this DIY and so I did!  I loved the colorful arrangement of the original centerpiece, but my home is already so colorful. I decided to tone it down a bit and found some fun white wooden beads instead. I chose to make smaller clusters of wheat to make up my centerpiece. In each cluster, I used only one medium or large bead. I think this changed the look slightly from the original. I placed about 3-4 clusters together in our thrifty amber vases and now have them out on display!  I love how cheap and easy this DIY was. It’s perfect for me, since we are always on a budget and I don’t have tons of money to spend on all my little crafts – though I wish I did. You should try this modern take on an old favorite decor piece for your home! What do you think of the original center piece idea? Isn’t it cute?! I loved it! Hope you try this out – it was a lot of fun! XOXO, Lidy  Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,... read more

Fall Acorn Garland

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching us and I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’ve been grateful for lately. I am so thankful for my little family. Each moment with them is such a blessing.  The other day, we all went out as a family to First Friday. This is something my husband and I use to do together all the time, it’s such a joy to now share it with our little ones. All the local artisans and artists gather around and set up all their lovelies to sell. I came across one of my favorite sellers, Stitchy Impressions. Last year, I got these cute crocheted hearts. This year, I spotted the most adorable handmade acorns and knew they had to go home with me!  I wanted to do something unique with these cute acorns, not just place them in a bowl on our table. I decided to make a cute little garland, using the acorns and bright pompoms. You will simply need some thick sewing thread and a large needle. I began to thread the pompoms and acorns one at a time. Once they were all threaded, I fixed any gaps and tied a knot at each end to keep them from sliding off. Super simple! I love the fun playful feel this garland adds to our home. It’s very simple and so homey!  If you love the look of these lovely knitted acorns, pop on over to Stitchy Impressions and browse her adorable shop. What kind of things are you doing to get ready for the Thanksgiving holiday?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You... read more

Color Inspired

A new series: Color Inspired! I am always inspired by the visual appeal of color! It’s what gets my attention when walking through stores. If the packaging has a certain aesthetic and the colors speak to me, it’s almost enough for me to buy them. Luckily, I have Jiminy Cricket on my shoulder, explaining why I don’t need to buy this or that!  Thanksgiving is only 3 weeks away! I am so excited to share another holiday with my cute kids and wonderful husband. One of the biggest things I am grateful for this year are my kids. I can’t express how blessed we are to have them in our lives! Here is the color palette I am inspired by. I am loving the design from Rifle Paper Co.‘s Thankful Forest Card!   What colors or images are you inspired by during this Thanksgiving season? What are you thankful for? Yum! Puppy Chow

My husband and I are always craving a treat at the end of the day. Mostly because we are rewarding ourselves for getting through another day as new parents! Hopefully this habit will die soon, otherwise we are in big trouble! I love this classic recipe – we figured since we are well into the fall season and headed towards another holiday we would whip up a batch of this delicious puppy chow!!! This is the perfect treat to put into a little goodie bags and share with friends and family! They are bound to love it! I placed a bunch aside and put them into these fun paper bags and wrapped them with festive twine. All I need to do is write a little personalized note and pass them around!  Ingredients: 9 cups Rice Chex Cereal (*optional: substitute for Life cereal) 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (*optional: substitute for Nutella)  1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup butter 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar Directions: 1. Pour cereal into a large bowl and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set both aside for later use.  2. In a large pot on medium heat, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter for 1 minute; stir often. Keep on heat until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon zip-top food-storage plastic bag. 3. Add icing sugar. Seal the bag tightly shut and shake until everything is well coated. Spread the mixture out onto prepared baking sheet to cool. Store in airtight container... read more
