DIY Motivational Art
Lately I’ve been super inspired to do a lot of DIY art pieces for my home. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that we are expecting our baby in a few months and have a nursery to decorate! I’ve been challenging myself to make as much personalized art as I can! I want more than anything for our children to be exposed to the arts because that is something my husband and I have always been a part of. And we love it! I’ve been trying to replicate things I’ve seen that inspire me, rather than paying full price for something (if you haven’t noticed, baby stuff is expensive!). For example, I love going to Anthropologie for inspiration. Everything there is pretty brilliant, but there are times I can’t justify spending loads of cash on a single item. So what do I do? I go home and try to come up with a cheaper way to make it! Well, at least I think about how I could anyway. Doesn’t mean I actually get it done. I also find my inspiration through other creative blogs! In this case, that’s what I’ve done! I found this super cute DIY on a blog I so happen to love! I decided to pick a motivational phrase that would serve as a greater purpose than just looking pretty on our wall! It’s a great reminder for me: Live Simply. That can be so difficult in this complicated world. Hope you enjoy this DIY and find some special meaning in it!
Materials:
A painting/print that you like based on color palette only (don’t get a beautiful picture you would actually hang on your wall…you’ll see why)
Multi-purposed paint (any color you choose that suits your home decor…I got Martha Stewart’s paint in pearl, since it happened to be on sale)
Paint brush
Large letter stickers
How-to:
I found another canvas (I’ve recently did THIS project with canvas as well) to take home with me! This time, the canvas had been painted on already by a student who decided to just leave it at the college campus. They never did come back for it, so the instructor gave it away for free. You bet I snatched it up! The colors were perfect shades of blue and I knew it would be great for this exact DIY. You can find cheap prints anywhere nowadays: yard sales or thrift stores would be your best bet. Now, pick a motivational phrase you just love! Pinterest is full of them! Take your print and lay out your letters. Make sure to pre-plan where and how you will situate your phrase or quote. Once you feel good about it, stick the letters on the print securely. You may want to rub them down individually to make sure they are on there real good! Take your paint and begin painting over the entire picture, including the letters. You can paint as much or as little as you would like. Depending on what kind of look you are going for. I personally like how the colors can still be seen vaguely through the paint. Once you are done, let the paint dry completely before peeling off the letters. You will see your cute phrase untouched and your painting peering through!
It’s a great little project you can do in a couple hours. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s even a little cuter that way! You can make as many as you would like and they will all be completely unique! I’m going to make a few of these for the nursery with sweet phrases for my baby-to-be! Hope you find this DIY inspiring! Will you be on the look out for some fun prints this weekend?
XOXO, Lidy
