Repurposed: Birch Wood Hurricane Candle Holder

Posted on Dec 10, 2012 by in Blog, DIY, Repurposed | 0 comments

Yesterday, I mentioned that I took a trip to LA. Well, more like two trips: Friday and Saturday – there and back. It was one of those weekends I kicked myself for not just staying somewhere for the night! Nonetheless, I was happy to get out of town and have some time away.

I spotted this beautiful piece of birch wood at a little booth at The Grove. Not something you would expect to see there in the middle of all those big name brand retail stores. I couldn’t resist, I knew I could use it for something. Birch wood is just too lovely to pass up.

I decided to repurpose this section of a hollowed out birch tree. I loved this particular one because of the gorgeous texture and huge opening from perhaps some rotting. It just created this perfect little window. I thought it would be fabulous as a hurricane candle holder! Yes, I am aware that this could be a fire hazard. Fear not, I have experimented and so far no problems! I also use LED candles, so that may give some of you peace of mind!

It brings the perfect look to any space! I love bringing the whole nature theme indoors once again. That will never get old to me. It goes perfectly side by side with these antlers I picked up at the antique store. Bring me woodsy-natural anything this season – I am obsessed!

What do you think about this piece of birch wood? What would you have done differently?

XOXO, Lidy
