Around Here

Honestly, thank goodness it’s Friday. It has been so busy around here, but I really shouldn’t complain. I’ve decided to share a few shots of what I’m working on around the house at the end of the week. And be warned, some pictures aren’t always going to be pretty. Which I’m excited about, weird right? Morning Light + My Poor Banana Plant Unmade Beds Playing with Hats Breakfast Table + Rush to School  Black + White for Fall  Laundry Everywhere I hope this weekend goes by nice and slow. We have so much to do and so little time. How about you all – are you feeling the same way? XOXO, Lidy  ...

Slow Down With Schoolhouse Electric and Supply Co

When I think of Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co, I think of my long wish-list of pieces for our home. Naturally! But when they asked me if I would like to participate in their campaign involving their new spring line, I could not refuse.  Slow Down.  Today is the perfect day to reflect on that. Two years ago today we became a family of five. A sweet little baby made our family complete and changed our lives forever. As I look back on pictures of our kids especially, I catch myself always asking where did the time go? And I think a lot of us can attest to that.  Time went quickly. Quickly wishing they would grow up so we didn’t have to continually change diapers, dress them, feed them, clean them, carry them down the stairs, read to them, sing to them and snuggle them. Because we were so busy.  I hate that that was my excuse, but it was. Housework needed to be done, dinner needed to be made, errands needed to be run. And life doesn’t wait for us to get those things out of the way first, it keeps on moving. Quickly. And now two years later, I look at my once little baby, and I wish I could go back to enjoy those moments more. Putting more emphasis on my little family before my busy life. Don’t get me wrong, I spent a lot of time with my kids and enjoyed plently moments! But you always have that feeling where you know you could have done just a little more to soak it all in. So, in...

Whoa What a Week!

It’s been really quiet around here this week, I’m sure you’ve noticed.  I can’t tell you how busy things have been lately! It’s a good busy, but boy am I feeling it these past few days. I have so many really exciting things going on and so I decided I would share a few of them with you so you know why I’ve been so absent lately! Hope you don’t mind… 1. I’ve had a lot of fun opportunities working on television lately! You can see them here and here. Although, I was TOTALLY freaked out both times – being on live TV is so much harder than it looks. I designed the last Glamping show and another one coming up in the next month. It’s like a dream job! 2.  I have TWO workshops coming up the first weekend in May with Market Collective! I am SO excited and cannot wait to meet and mingle with other creative folks. I’ll share more information soon and if you’re local, you should totally come! 3.  I’m working on another design project with Dote Magazine for Issue Three! It’s going to be a fun one, which I can’t share until it’s in print of course. I am learning to be very patient these days!  4. I’ve been working with a lot of really amazing brands on some really fabulous projects that are still on the down low, but soon and very soon, I’ll be able to spill the beans. You’ve probably seen a few sneak peeks on Instragram because, well, I just can’t help myself! 5. I had my first design consultation this week. I’ll...

Weekly Snapshots

After Monday’s post, I got a lot of really good feedback! I felt encouraged and refreshed, so thank you so much for sharing your hearts with me. It really does the soul some good to hear from you all. As a result, I decided this year I wanted to be more intentional with my posts. I will be cutting back on DIYs and incorporating some new columns, Weekly Snapshots being one of them. I wanted to share pictures of my everyday life throughout the week with you. They are perfectly ordinary and exactly what my life looks like when I’m not busy blogging!  1. One of the ways I talk myself into cleaning is that I get to display new decor on the shelves and change things up. Otherwise, I don’t think any housework would ever happen.  2. Famous words by Joel, “Why does technology hate me?”. I hear this at least once a day. He’s always fighting with something and it always brings a little smirk to my face when I hear him from the other room – is that mean? 3. Miss Violet. She is full of so much energy lately. It’s both good and bad. Good, because I love her enthusiasm for life and confidence. Bad, because she is constantly getting into trouble. Time outs are a common occurrence in this household – as shown here. 4. Holden would probably watch TV in his pajamas all day if I let him. Then again, who wouldn’t?! 5. One of the rare moments I caught Sebastian doing his new (and very adorable) crossing of the feet. I’m a little obsessed with it right...

Life Lately

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about life, other than what’s going on with our home makeovers and the odd DIY. Life looks a lot different for our family lately. The last 3 months we’ve adjusted smoothly and quite well overall since moving back to Canada! We had a gorgeous extended fall and spent a good amount of time walking the beautiful paths by our house. It was the most we spent outdoors in months, it was just too hot and smoggy in Bakersfield. It’s incredible what some real fresh air can do for the soul! The kids have been the strongest in all of this. From the moment we told them we were moving away from California to Canada, they were ecstatic! We even tried to explain that it meant no more beach trips, flip flops, amazing Mexican food, exploring free museums, top-notch flea markets and thrift stores. But they didn’t seem to care. Or maybe I was just telling myself all of that…. One thing I know. Kids make you see what really matters in life. They made me realize that all those things are so superficial and while they are great in the moment, they don’t last. They don’t make life meaningful or memorable. This quote says it perfectly:  “The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” -Eleanor Roosevelt I am forever grateful for our time in California. I spent my twenties in the coolest place I could imagine. I enjoyed every adventure there and every memory made. But most...

Wednesday’s Wishlist

I’m back with another Wednesday’s Wishlist! The weather has been so amazing here lately (knock on wood), but I know soon enough that will all be changing. I’ve gathered some seasonal favorites this week to prepare for the cold months ahead!  I am very intrigued by these brass Snake Candleholders! I’m thinking they would be perfect for Halloween decor and I would even go as far as keeping these out all year round!! Aren’t they fabulous?!  Cold weather means dressing a little warmer! These Plaid Socks are a must for the mister!  I might already own this Plaid Scarf in red, but I love it so much I would go back and buy another! It’s both ridiculously cozy and very trendy for the upcoming season!  I’m making the kids play outside as much as possible while the weather is cooperating. But soon enough, they will be indoors  a little more often. Why not plan ahead with some fun craft ideas in this Martha Stewart’s Favorite Crafts for Kids? I think so!  Hope your week has been treating you well so far!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by...

Wednesday’s Wishlist

Happy October friends!! Hard to believe isn’t it? Not to meniton, it’s already the middle of the week! What is going on?! I’m back today sharing a few of my favorite finds over the past week – hope you enjoy.  I have an addiction to pillows and I’m not ashamed of it! I have been in love with this pillow for a while now and I think I might want it. It’s navy, it’s spotted and I think it’s just lovely!  This travel bag is so gorgeous – heck, I’ll take it!! When the hubby leaves town for a few days or needs to run to a meeting, he can throw all his man stuff in this handsome bag and voila!  If you’re anything like me, you always need at least one – or two – or three comfy knitted sweaters for the fall/winter. This poncho would be positively lovely with some jeans or even leggings and some cute winter booties. It can be both casual and dressy and I love that!  Foxes, bears and raccoons? Enough said, the kids are getting one of these darling sleeping bags!  What do you think of this week’s wishlist? Anything catch your eye? Kids Halloween Dress Up Ideas

If you could see me right now, I’d be vibrating with excitement and freaking out…just a little. Who isn’t a big time fan of The Land of Nod?! Well, we are! I know I’ve been following them all over the web for a couple years now, but especially after having children. I’ve only dreamt of being able to team up and our two worlds to collide. Today it’s finally become a reality! Be sure to head over to their blog, Honest to Nod, to see these three cute little faces and hear a little bit about the dress up pieces I’ve picked out for this Halloween!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram...

Wednesday’s Wishlist

I’ve been doing a lot of window shopping as of late. There are just way too many things I wish I could just go out and buy, but I really shouldn’t. Here are a few of my Wednesday’s Wishlist – a little something new on the blog!  For the home, I would LOVE this faux fur stool from Nate Berkus for Target. Isn’t it amazing?! I could use one for every room….seriously.  As the weather is starting to cool down a bit, I am on the hunt for a nice jacket for Joel. I think this one looks very vintage-inspired, but still keeping it classy.  Who couldn’t use a new boot for the fall? I spotted these and I now have convinced myself I need them ASAP. They would be great with skirts or jeans! Don’t you think?! We are always on the hunt for toys that will help the kids learn to play nicely with one another and promote sharing (which is something we are lacking as of right now). This bungalow play home is darling!  Hope you enjoyed this short new series – let me know what you think!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! We’re Moving!

If you haven’t heard it officially, then WE’RE MOVING! Yes, we are beyond excited! I have loved this California life for the past seven years, but it’s time to move on to new adventures back in our home land.  But as excited as I am, this is not going to be easy. I am leaving behind a lot of amazing people and a lot of amazing memories. This has been home to us for many years. This is where our children were born and their sisters still live. And my heart breaks all over again thinking of that separation. I do not doubt God’s will in all of this, which is why I leave knowing there is a bigger picture. I’ve seen it already begun, I know there will be a good end.  So, we’ve packed up our lives in 200+ boxes and bins. No, seriously. I’ve numbered them. And not because I’m organized like that, but because immigrating into Canada isn’t a breeze just because you’re Canadian. There are SO many things I did not anticipate, so we are taking it a day at a time. I look at this empty house. The empty walls. I look outside my windows and breath in all that I can. The blue skies. The bright sun. The palm trees. How lucky are we that we lived in this beautiful state, this country. We’ve had a really good life here – for that, I am forever blessed. And because these are such memorable times, I am going to be stepping away from the blog for a week or so. I need that time to...
