Marbling Using Nail Polish

February 26, 2015

Marbling Using Nail Polish

I have to admit, I’ve been wanting to marble something for a looooooong time! I’ve looked at all the different techniques, but the one that caught my attention was this Marbling Using Nail Polish DIY, which inspired this project So naturally, I gave it a try. Yep, it’s pretty safe to say that I instantly fell in love with how easy it was and how beautiful the results were.

Marbling Using Nail Polish

All you will need is a container that’s big enough to submerge your entire object, nail polish and water. Right off the bat I am going to warn you that using old nail polish that you might have kicking around from who knows when will NOT work. I tried it all. It gives you clumpy results, rather than that nice smooth finish you’re looking for.

Marbling Using Nail Polish

I used nail polish that was fairly new, it doesn’t have to be expensive by any means! Don’t be afraid to practice until you feel comfortable with your technique. I failed the first few times, but finally got it right on my final two projects. For decor, I simply used an As-Is candle holder form IKEA that we got for $2.50 and an old ceramic trophy I found at Target a couple years ago.

Fill your container with water and drop your nail polish into the water in whatever pattern you desire. I did little swirls, but you can do anything! You may choose to swirl the polish once it’s in the water with a skewer, but I let the polish take on it’s natural form. Don’t wait too long, within a few seconds you should be dipping your object carefully into your water/polish mixture. I simply pressed one side of my object straight down on one side of the container and turned it on the other side as it was making it’s way out of the water so the entire object was covered. If you just want to dip your object into the mixture, simply submerge it until you have the amount covered, depending on the look you are going for.

Carefully place on a dry surface. Do not touch until the object is completely dry! Once dry, display your piece and enjoy!  I’ve tried all kinds of colors, there are so many beautiful outcomes! It’s impossible to not have fun with this.

I ultimately chose a grey nail polish for a more modern look which better suits my decor, but I’ve also used a hot pink which was SO fantastic (keep an eye out for another Marble-y DIY soon)!

Sneak Peek: Violet’s Accent Wall

February 25, 2015

Sneak Peek: Violet's Accent Wall

I’ve been loving Pastels and Polka Dots lately! I can’t decide which one I love more than the other, so I thought I would combine the two for a fun accent wall in Violet’s room. Since we’ve moved in, we hadn’t really done a whole lot to her room yet. It was a nice blank slate, so it  didn’t feel urgent. Now that things are slowing down a bit, I had a chance to start working on her room with a lot more thought and a whole lot of inspiration

Sneak Peek: Violet's Accent Wall

I love the idea of minimal design in kids spaces. I didn’t want her room to be too loud, but rather calming. I decided to create a wall that had a clean and simple design that added a girly and whimsical touch!

Sneak Peek: Violet's Accent Wall

I’ve been inspired by all those amazing paint ideas out there. I decided to go with a fun house silhouette to frame her bed. I thought painting the whole room pink was a little cliche for a girls room, so I opted for a pop of pink instead.  I went with a very soft/pale hue, but thought the wall needed a little something extra!

Sneak Peek: Violet's Accent Wall

I decided to make some more Mini Vinyl Heart Wall Decals for her wall and placed them in a random pattern. I love how it adds some nice texture to the space, but still holding true to that minimal feel. I added some house shelving to balance out the painted house silhouette and some stars to create the illusion of a sky above her bed (both are fun night lights!).

This is just a little sneak peek, how do you like the direction of the space so far?

Pretty Pink Accents for the Home

February 19, 2015

Yesterday, I shared some Pretty Pink Living Rooms and today I’m back with some ways you can incorporate this color in your home too. Whether you want a dash of pink or you want to go all out, these pretty pink accents for the home will surely be a hit!

These pieces would work separately or together, which is partially why I chose various shades of pink in order for you to get an idea of how you can play around with this color. If you aren’t sure about this trend, a pale pink or blush might be a good way to go. If you’re loving it, then more bright and vibrant might be your thing! The question is, are you loving this look or having a hard time with it? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Pretty Pink Living Rooms

February 18, 2015

As we are in the process of giving our upstairs living room a makeover, I’ve gathered some Pretty Pink Living Rooms as inspiration. I love the idea of having soft pink accents with bold black, white and grey pieces! We want our living room to look very Scandinavian-inspired to go with the rest of our home. I think bringing in a few clean and simple pieces will help the room feel fresh and modern!!

DIY Washi Tape Clock

February 17, 2015

DIY Washi Tape Clock

I’m back from an extra long weekend! And what better way to kick things off than a super-duper easy DIY. This Washi Tape Clock recently got the easiest makeover and now it’s all the more cute.

Materials: Washi Tape |  Clock

DIY Washi Tape Clock

Simply start on the bottom of your clock (to hide the uneven ends) and begin to wrap your washi tape around the surface. Every time you make a complete circle, begin a whole new row of washi tape and wrap around again until the surface is completely covered. I told you it was easy!

My clock went from boring white to pops of pattern in no time! I’m sure you can do a better job of lining up your dots on the washi tape. I actually wasn’t going to show you this DIY, so I didn’t take any pictures. Then I decided that was just a silly idea! I had to share how simple this was, so I removed the washi tape and started over…in a bit of a hurry. Sorry excuse, I know. At least you get the idea – right?!

DIY Washi Tape Clock

I love washi tape and I love quick projects like this. So if you’re anything like me, than you’ll love it too!

Creative Space Reveal

February 13, 2015

Creative Space

In all the years I’ve been blogging, I’ve never actually had my own office/workspace! I usually used our living room couch as my office and my lap was my desk. It was frustrating trying to get work done at times, which I’m sure you can imagine. So when we moved into our new home, I knew that I really wanted a little area designated for my blog and design projects. It would help me feel more organized and the hope was, I would feel a little more productive in the end!

Creative Space

Creative Space

I wouldn’t so much call it my office or workspace, since it is technically part of our living room. I’ve resorted to calling it my Creative Space, since this is the area that I find myself doing a lot of planning, playing and prepping for all those projects I’m trying to get done! It’s exactly what I needed. My husband works during the day and I stay at home with the kids. I can’t just lock myself away in a room somewhere, but I do find that I can work in this little space in our living room while the kids read or play with their toys at my feet. I would still love to have my own office one day, but this is a great alternative for all those stay-at-home moms working from home!

Creative Space

Creative Space

My desk was created to replicate the design of our Danish Inspired Modular Shelving Unit we made a couple years back. It pulls the living room and dining room together now, making everything feel cohesive and smooth. You can adjust the heights of the shelves and desk top very easily, making it a great work space whenever I need to work on any DIYs. I can stand or sit, depending on the project I’m working on. Not to mention, It’s a great space for photographing my work, since the wall makes a great white backdrop and the lighting from the front window is ideal for shooting.

Creative Space

Creative Space

I brought in some bold black and white pieces to allow this area of the room to stand out just a bit, like the repurposed bulletin dart board! It’s a fun way to put up my to-do lists, pretty cards and art. I really wanted the space to feel minimal, modern and playful. The addition of the Vinyl Mini Heart Wall Decals made the space feel a little more feminine and whimsical, without it being too overboard.

Creative SpaceI really do feel a lot more organized and eager to work! It’s amazing what a little makeover can accomplish both mentally and physically. What do you think of this little creative space – could you see this working in your home?

Mini Vinyl Heart Wall Decals

February 11, 2015

Mini Vinyl Heart Wall Decals

I’ve had a lot of people ask me how I find the time to decorate and design my home while controlling my three toddlers! The truth is, some days I don’t find the time!! But when I do, it’s because I choose those easy DIYs that take maybe a half hour of my day or less. It’s all about doing things quickly and as simply as possible! And today’s Mini Vinyl Heart Wall Decals are a great example of both those things.

Materials + Directions

Mini Vinyl Heart Wall Decals

What you will need: Black Vinyl, Heart Puncher

Simply begin by creating your hearts with the heart puncher. I got both the vinyl and puncher from Michael’s. Once you have as many as you want to work with, peel the back of the heart off and create your design on the wall. I wanted my hearts to cascade down the wall randomly, but you can have total freedom on your design!

Mini Vinyl Heart Wall Decals

This project should only take you about 10-20 minutes, depending on how many you decide to make. The black vinyl has a nice finish and gives the wall a completely new look! I love it in our home, it just feels so minimal and modern!

Mini Vinyl Heart Wall Decals

Honestly, vinyl is such an easy way to update any area of your home! It’s my secret weapon when I’m short for time. Hopefully this was helpful to you and now you feel a bit more inspired to do a little project for your home too!

Friday Finds

February 6, 2015

Ok friends, I know I’ve been absent all week. A month or so ago, my youngest son decided to spill a very sugary beverage all over the keyboard of my laptop. For the longest time, I was using an external keyboard and hauling it all around. I finally decided to bite the bullet and spend the money on getting my old one replaced. It’s as good as new – no more crunching sounds or sticky keys – yay! So, while I’ve been taking an involuntary break from my blog, I’ve had the chance to enjoy some rather splendid DIYs around the web this week. Hope you enjoy!

Friday Finds

Those DIY Color Blocked Wood Vases are gorgeous! I could easily see one or more of these in our home!

I would so rock these DIY Temporary Edible Gold Lipstick Glasses at my next party! I mean, the sheer fact that they’re edible?! And totally adorable of course.

Ok, how stinkin’ cute and clever is this Fries Before Guys FREE Printable?! SO fun(ny)!

As a mother of three, I am totally for any game that keeps the kiddos busy and having a good time. This Tic Tac Toe Valentine is so easy to make and overall fabulous!

Totally had one of those, “why didn’t I think of that” moments when I first saw these DIY Modern Placemats! They have everything I love – black, white, graphic, clean and modern. Duh, I should have totally thought of that one on my own! Regardless, I love them and that’s that.

I’ll be back next week and to kick start my return, I am hosting a very fun giveaway that you do not want to miss! So be sure to have a grand weekend and then come back first thing Monday morning!!
