Celebrate Easter With Minted

Celebrate Easter With Minted

Stationary Spring has arrived! Can you feel it? Whether or not you can hear the birds chirping or see those fresh flowers blooming, Easter is just around the corner! Because we have little ones, these little holidays mean a lot to us. It means creating memories, because let’s face it, one day they will all grow up! And while they’re young, I like to do little things while they still appreciate it! We will most likely put little baskets together with a few little treats for when they wake up! Of course, new outfits for church so we can take lots of pictures afterwards. I’ve also put together a few of my favorite pieces to celebrate Easter with Minted that I just had to share! Is it bad that I kind of want everything?? Bonus: most of these pieces are perfect for the home year round! Muted Bouquet Print / Leaf Study Print / Abstract Brights Print Naturally Framed Print / Aeonium Print / The Porch Party Decor  Simple Snapshot Wrapping Paper / Easter Kraft Greeting Card  I know our families love to receive cute little cards from our kids! And who doesn’t like any excuse to have close friends over for a sweet spring party?! Think of all the fun things you could do! Not to mention, now that we have our new DIY shelving unit up, I am definitely eyeing some of those art prints – my living room walls are in need of color and texture! How about you – do you have any Easter traditions?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
DIY Wood Triangle Necklace

DIY Wood Triangle Necklace

Hello all and happy Monday! Today I’m teaming up with The Quarterly Collab ladies for another great compilation of fun DIY’s! Our theme? Jewelry! Let me first start by saying I am NOT a jewelry maker, nor do I pretend to be. But I put my best foot forward and looked at this as a fun opportunity to branch into this whole other area of crafting! I had a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy what I came up with!  What you will need: Wood (I used a combination of pine, walnut and oak) Table saw or scroll saw Drill press Sander Wood wiping stain Gold chain (any length) What to do: 1. Gather your supplies 2. With a pencil, measure your triangles (you can choose how big or small) 3. Using the table saw, cut out six wood triangles 4. Sand your triangles smooth 5. With your drill press, create a hole depending on the size of your chain 6. I created holes at the top (point) and bottom (flat end) of the triangle so they would all hang differently on the chain 7. Stain your triangles and wipe off excess with a rag 8. Take a fine sander and sand one last time to give it a nice glossy finish! Enjoy! I love how this piece turned out! It’s chunky and definitely makes a statement! At first, I wanted to paint a few triangles some fun colors to pop, but I loved how the stain brought out all the different patterns in each  triangle. Of course, I love how the natural wood plays with the gold metal. It’s...
DIY Easter Egg Cup Succulents

DIY Easter Egg Cup Succulents

Happy Spring my friends! I decided to do a fun little DIY to kick start this new season and Easter, which is just weeks away! I took a classic Easter piece and put a little modern twist on it: Easter Egg Cup Succulents! Because who doesn’t like a touch of gold?! What you will need (List and link below the post – so fun, right?!): Easter Egg Cups Succulents Liquid Gold Leaf Paint brush Tape What to do: 1. Gather your supplies 2. Tape off your easter egg cups 3. Carefully paint in the designated areas you want gold (careful, this stuff is SUPER thin compared to your usual craft paint) 4. Let dry and carefully peel back the tape 5. Remove your succulents from their planters and carefully put them into their modern egg cups! 6. Display and enjoy – all year round if you so desire!  This was such an easy DIY and SO much fun to do! I am loving this liquid gold leaf and I can’t wait to do another project with this stuff. It dries pretty quick too, which is a bonus! I love the look of the simple touch of gold with these pretty succulents. They are perfect on our living room shelf.  What do you think of making a classic Easter piece and adding a modern touch for your home? XOXO, Lidy  Feel free to leave a comment! Clay Copper Leaf Banner

Clay Copper Leaf Banner

I recently discovered that there’s nothing wrong with mixing metals in your home decor! Which is great, because I am loving them all! Brass is amazing, but now copper is starting to make it’s way to the top of the list! It’s a bit more vibrant than brass I think, so it makes for a great accent color in your home decor. I decided to see how I really felt about copper by doing this super simple DIY!  What you will need: Air-dry clay ( I just used kids clay from Target!)  Copper leaf Copper leaf adhesive 2 Paint brushes (one for applying the adhesive, the other (should be soft) for removing the copper leaf)  Triangle cookie cutter  Twine or string Straw What to do: Roll our your clay to the width you want your triangles. Take your cookie cutter and begin to cut out your triangles. Take your straw and create two holes at the top of your triangles for the string or twine to go through. Let you clay dry completely. When it’s dry, take your adhesive and apply where you would like your copper leaf to stick. Apply your copper leaf according to the directions. Allow your adhesive to dry completely. Once dry, take your soft brush and carefully remove the excess copper leaf from your triangles. Simply pull your string or twine through the holes and hand up your new banner!  I think this adds a nice touch of copper to our home. It’s so simple, but still pretty fun! The clay is so easy to work with and the copper leaf is a fun little...
Floral Trends With ProFlowers

Floral Trends With ProFlowers

Today I’ve teamed up with ProFlowers to share my favorite floral trends for 2014! It was a tough one, because I love any and all types of floral designs! But I finally decided Country Garden was for me! I know, when I think “country”, it’s the last word I would use to describe my style. Traditionally you might think burlap, shabby chic with a bit of rustic flare. But I put a little twist on this trend by adding some clean and modern pieces! I am a huge fan of pastels  mixed with a bit of earthy touches. I like my flowers to be a little more subtle, but still a pretty focal point in my space.    Pastel Palette / Bouquet / Light Fixtures Planter / Simple Interior / Geometric Planter / Print / Gold Pillow / Throw  With this floral trend, it’s about bringing the outdoors in. I kept to natural elements, like wood, metal and concrete and used them in ways to compliment my flowers and plants! So, what’s your favorite floral trend this year?! DIY Wood House Shelf

DIY Wood House Shelf

For the longest time I’ve loved this Dorm shelf by Ferm Living! When I saw a house shelf at Michel’s the other day, I was inspired to make my own until I could get my hands on the real thing!!  What you will need: Wooden House (Michael’s) Pencil Paint  Paint brushes What to do: 1. Gather your supplies 2. With your pencil, make an outline by tracing the divider in your shelf 3. Remove divider by carefully bending back the tiny nails 4. Get your paint ready – I used black, gold, light pink and white 5. Begin to paint each compartment a different color 6. When you are done let the paint dry completely and then return the divider to the shelf. Hang up and enjoy! This shelf is just the right size to display the kids tiny little dala horses! The backgrounds help them pop a lot more and I think it’s a lot of fun! I love the idea of having a non-traditional shelf, it always makes the space a little more interesting!  It looks great in any room in the house, but I specifically made this one for the kids rooms. I might have to go and get a few more! What do you think of house shelves for displaying your cute pieces?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Breathe

Breathe

Days like today I just lift my head up. I take a deep breathe in, letting out all that hinders me. The yesterdays are gone. Our lives feel so unsettled, the ground moving and shifting from under our feet. I’m tired and in need of rest, but there is none. In my arms I try to hold tight to the things that matter. And I am reminded of my little ones.   The lives they had, torn from, lives that they were pushed into, taken out of. Only to have such emotionless responses from people. As though it’s normal and everybody has a sob story, like it’s a competition. The thing is, this isn’t a sob story. It’s THEIR reality. There is nothing much worse than being a baby, vulnerable and needy. Being helpless. Being lonely. Abandoned. Abused. Starving. Dirty. Separated from siblings. Losing a mother and father. Losing everything. Everything. Getting dropped off from home to home. Never feeling secure or loved the way it comes so naturally to so many. How is that anything to look at and not want to go above and beyond what we are humanly capable of to make that extra effort. Because, yes, I do think my children deserve extra love and attention. And many like them. Yes, I think we need to go out of our way to be more intentional with the way we love and adore them. Why shouldn’t they receive that from us? If we treat them differently than someone else’s biological son or daughter, it’s because they ARE different. And that’s the truth. That’s the thing we...
DIY Leather Coasters

DIY Leather Coasters

If there is one thing that always goes missing in my house, it’s our coasters! I am always putting my coffee on the strangest thing to protect the surface of our tables. Sometimes it’s my laptop, a magazine and on and on. I thought it was about time I just made some extra ones myself, but a little more edgier than our older ones!  What you will need: Scissors  Leather Fabric Marker What to do: 1. Gather your supplies 2. Cut the edges straight 3. Create your pattern on the leather using your fabric marker 4. You can choose to do as many as you want, but I wanted enough for at least 5 coasters 5. Measure out the shape you want and cut – I went with simple squares 6. Simply use and enjoy!  This was super easy! I love using leather to add that touch of texture to my decor. It just so happened that I was in need of new coasters and I had a lot of scrap leather laying around – it was the perfect marriage! These coasters are both stylish and useful! Now what else can I make… What do you think of this simple DIY? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
Home Tour: Violet’s Room

Home Tour: Violet’s Room

Violet’s room makeover is finally complete! This space was such a huge project! I had SO much organizing and purging to do, since it was our “throw everything you want to hide” room. I couldn’t believe the bags and bags of stuff that had collected for the past 6 years we’ve lived here! Poor girl, I don’t know how she survived in there. It’s such a joy to walk in now and see a room that is truly and specifically created and designed for her. I was shopping on a budget, so it’s not where I wish it could be, but I am satisfied with the overall transformation! I tried to keep to my inspiration board for the overall feel, although I wasn’t able to bring in some of those amazing pieces. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect rug, some cute curtains and a few other little pieces which I might have to find at The Land of Nod! From a generic nursery, to a very special little girl’s big girl room – enjoy! And I might have added a cascade of falling polka dots over her bed afterwards! It makes the room feel a little more full and brings it all together! So, what do you think friends?! XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!
