A Bittersweet Goodbye

A Bittersweet Goodbye

I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.  – C.S. Lewis Starting a post like this is really hard to write. I’ve had months to think, ponder and accept. So I’ll get straight to the point.  The last year, since moving back to Canada, I’ve had a change in heart. It’s hard to explain, but I’ll try my best. To be brutally honest, I was living in a world that was essentially all about “look at me”, “notice me”, and glorifying self and it left me feeling restless and longing. I was tired of dreaming up wild ideas that might lift my name higher, spending hours brainstorming months and years ahead for my little blog to maybe get just a little bit bigger. Hoping and waiting for the next adventure to come knocking on my door. It was a cycle that I needed to get out of because there was so much risk involved. I had a family, I had friends, a world of possibilities outside my own front door, but most importantly. Above all else, I felt I was neglecting my relationship with God.  It wasn’t until I heard someone say to me one day that the only way up is down. To let go of the things you cling so tightly to and trust that when you let go, there is peace and fulfillment. A total countercultural way of thinking, I know. But basically, my faith in God means that He is first in my life. That I...

An All Modern Christmas

An All Modern Christmas

If you’ve been a Hello Lidy follower for a while now, you know that I gravitate toward that Scandinavian vibe in our home, especially during the holiday season. This year, I teamed up with AllModern to give our living room an all modern look this Christmas – pun intended! I was really searching for simplicity by incorporating the bare essentials to really give my space an authentic and warm atmosphere. Here are a few tips on how you can achieve this look in your home too: Go for a simple palette that consists of two to three colors. Lots of white is a must! White goes with everything and instantly makes a room look fresh, light and modern. Black and grey are also my go-to accents, which are great for a stylish Christmas interior! You can easily introduce these colors with throws or pillows, while creating a warm and inviting vibe. Try not to crowd your space with too many decorations. Get rid of your everyday decor by storing it away for the season and to make extra room for your Christmas pieces. I really kept the space simple as far as decorating was concerned, but when buying new holiday decor (which inevitably will happen) I made sure to gravitate toward pieces that added great texture and graphic elements to the space. Like a bold black star or grey bead garland. Invest in a statement piece that is both practical and pretty. For years my living room was missing something. We have two rectangular shaped couches and a rectangular coffee table. There were just too many harsh lines and not enough flow. We brought in this amazing coffee table that really helps everything feel a...
Fresh Evergreen Christmas Garland

Fresh Evergreen Christmas Garland

Today, I’ve teamed up with Command Brand to create this very festive and fresh evergreen Christmas garland for your fireplace mantle this season! If you don’t have a fireplace, no problem! You can easily hang this garland on your wall or to frame any area of your home that you desire! It’s the perfect way to dress up your space, while keeping things simple and modern.  Materials Command Clear Medium Hooks (that can hold up to 3 pounds) Fresh winter greens Floral wire Wire cutters Instructions Begin by taking your greenery and overlapping it one onto the other, working in sections. Attach using floral wire. Repeat until you have a long enough garland for your mantle or wall.  You can choose to add different greenery on top of your garland to add variation and texture. Simply attach one at a time using your floral wire once more.  To attach your garland to your wall or fireplace mantle, use your Command Brand decorative hooks and simply follow directions as shown. You may choose to use as many hooks as necessary in order to hang your garland. I used 4 in total. Two at the top and two on either side of my fireplace mantle.  Once your hooks are secured to your surface, be sure to hang your garland so the weight is evenly distributed. Step back, adjust where needed and enjoy! I have been really craving simple decor this season. I love how crisp the greenery looks against the white and it’s just what this space needed. My life seems very chaotic right now, so to balance it all out I’m really tempted to go...
DIY Hanging Evergreen Bouquet

DIY Hanging Evergreen Bouquet

For a few years now, we’ve had an artificial Christmas tree. There are positives and negatives about it. Some positives: No mess to clean, easy to pack and store away for next year, money-saver, can come pre-lit, available in different colors and shapes! The negatives: No fresh scent of Christmas.  Yeah, it’s a big deal. I find myself buying a TON of candles, but even then it’s not the real thing. An easy solution is to introduce evergreens in small doses throughout your home. Like this super simple hanging evergreen bouquet!  Materials  Assortment of winter greenery (which you can find at Home Depot or a local florist shop) Floral wire Wire cutters Directions Begin by arranging your greens as you would with a bouquet of flowers. Make sure to disperse them evenly throughout.  Once you like your arrangement, simply begin attaching them using floral wire until they feel secured together.  Attach a string of wire from one end of the bouquet to the other and simply hang!  It’s that easy you guys! It’s about creativity and really what you think looks pretty. And when you’re working with just greenery, you really can’t go wrong! Best part is, it smells amazing! Feel free to sit the stems in water overnight to keep them fresh and long lasting. Simply dry the stems and hang them back up again!  Stay tuned! Tomorrow I have another lovely option for bringing in fresh greens into your home this season. XOXO, Lidy  ...

A Nordic Christmas

A Nordic Christmas

When I think of what a Nordic Christmas means to me, I think of all the white that surrounds me during the holidays. The sun hitting the surface of the snow, projecting glimmers of silver specks. The air is clean and crisp, making it easy to want to find something soft and furry to snuggle inside the warm house. And really, when I think of how these attributes define the outdoors, it’s so easy to bring that feeling inside too! Our homes can translate on a design level, what we experience in nature. To really capture a nordic Christmas, this year I’ve gravitated to silvers and grays! I’m using a lot of white and a bit of black for accents. The overall tone of the space should feel monochromatic, because if you live somewhere that gets hit by a lot of snow during the holidays (like Canada), you know that everything seems to settle into one specific color and hue!!  I teamed up with Minted to bring simple and minimal elements to help decorate my space this Christmas. I brought in some winter greens for a touch of nature indoors and hung these beautiful Nordic Noel, Wintry Mix, and Silver Dipped paper ornaments on the branches. Because they are paper, they are lightweight and I won’t risk damaging any of my branches – they are perfect! What kind of Christmas would it be without mountains somewhere displayed in the home?! I love how majestic the Rocky Mountains are here in Alberta, you can see them from where we live and when the snow falls they are even more alluring. These lovely Silver-Foiled Dipped...
It’s the Weekend!

It’s the Weekend!

Hey guys! It’s Fridayyyyyy. I’m so happy the weekend is here again. This week has been really busy and I’m hoping this weekend will give us time to rest a bit. If you didn’t see it, I made these super fun DIY Faceted Wood Place Card Holders over at Curbly! I think they are perfect for your holiday table or even around the home for displaying pictures. Be sure to head on over and check it out.  If you are looking for a RAD online workshop, you must check out Photo Styling 101 with the most genuine, kind and sweetest soul you’ll meet – Rachel of The Crafted Life.  I announced that this year’s Christmas color palette I’m going with black, white and silver (gray). My Christmas board is filling up! I took a risk choosing silver, since I’ve always been a gold + brass kind of gal and I see it everywhere! And you’d think I could find some silver accents, but it’s so hard guys. I was just about to regret my decision on silver, but then I spotted all of this! So happy to see it’s trending this year.  I’ve seen a lot of lightboxes circulating on the web for some time, mostly on all those Scandinavian blogs I love to browse through. I finally got one here and I am in love with it! I think it will make a modern addition to our home all year round. Great for displaying fun little messages and inspiring quotes, don’t you think?  Have you been keeping up with The Holiday Collective?! There is tons of inspiration that you should...
Entryway Makeover | Reveal

Entryway Makeover | Reveal

I can’t begin to tell you how good it feels to have this entryway finally completed! If you need a room refresher, be sure to check that out here. So where to begin. Oh, right! Let’s talk about Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year… Allllllaaaaabbbbaaassstttteeeerrrr! Imagine I announced that just as well as Oprah. But just in case that wasn’t clear – I am SO thrilled the color of the year is Alabaster (SW 7008). So, why white? Glad you asked. White isn’t just that safe go-to color anymore my friends. It’s so much more than that. White is the color of endless possibilities. A chance to discover something once lost. It’s never boring. Always on trend. Simple and modern. White has that power to make any space feel majestic and magnificent. Most importantly, you’ll never regret choosing white. Because our influence has always been directly attributed to the modernity of Scandinavian design, we wanted the entryway to not only be the first impression of our space, but the introduction to our home as a whole. So we aimed for functional, simple and honest. What you see is what you get! So, here is what we did with the overall space: 1. Colour Needless to say, I was more than excited to paint our entryway with  Alabaster (FYI white is one of my favorite colors people)! We decided to paint the banister, since it was the main source for sore eyes. Which by the way, is a wonderful compliment to other shades of white. Our walls are painted Incredible White (SW 7028), which is great for setting a warm ambience to any space. Combining it...
