Picking Paint Colors

Picking Paint Colors

I recently came across a post by Nicole from Making it Lovely. It’s a fun little post about playing with paint – which is great for me! We are in the process of trying to figure out what paint color we should choose for our living room wall. Right now we have a rather bright yellow. BRIGHT. YELLOW. So, needless to say, we are looking for something a little less loud and more neutral. But fun. And funky. And vintage-y. Is there a color out there that fits this description?! I paid a little visit to My Colortopia and tried out their new tool for trying on colors in your home. It was so fun, since I could upload a photo of my living room and play with all these fun colors! I could be as brave as I wanted to be! It felt very real, without any of those regrets you sometimes get from picking the wrong color.  First up, I decided a nice shade of off white would do the trick: Vanilla Shake. It definitely calmed the room down and I loved how it gave off a warm and cozy feel. It would certainly look great with all the different textures of wood we have in the living room!  Then I resorted to a nice grey: Shaded Ice. We have grey and white wallpaper in the dining room and a nice grey in the nook. So why not in the living room as well?! There is something very relaxing and clean about this color. I am liking it more and more! Its a great color to have...
As Promised: DIY Industrial Pipe Shelving

As Promised: DIY Industrial Pipe Shelving

I know, it’s been months since we finished our bedroom makeover! Life has changed very drastically, so please forgive me that it took me this long to share the DIY shelving with you! But you are here and that’s good!  I am in love with this industrial shelving we created as a wall unit/closet! It really pops with the white walls and we are even in the process of designing another wall unit for our living area. It has a unique look you just won’t find anywhere else. To achieve this great look you will need: Plywood Stain (optional) Various 1/2″ threaded black steel pipes and fittings Drywall screws Orange hand cleaner Sand Paper Tack cloth Table Saw Drill and 7/8″ spade drill bit *nipples: set lengths of pre-threaded 1/2″ pipe This project is pretty easy – you will just have to be doing a lot of measuring and pre-planning. Come up with a design that you want for your wall unit. It doesn’t have to be exactly like what we have done. We built our shelving around our bed and added a closet as well. Draw a rough draft of what you are wanting and measure, measure, measure. Once you have all your measurements, you will want to decide how long and deep you would like your shelves so you can plan out how much plywood and piping to buy. As well as where you will need to cut your plywood. You will need an assortment of 1/2″ nipple lengths, tees, 90 degree elbows, caps, and floor flanges. We ordered ours online, which saved us a whole lot...

Owl Puzzles

Owl Puzzles

I mentioned earlier how my husband was very handy and made some amazing Christmas puzzles, but I didn’t mention how he also made some really cute owls as well. They made great gifts this year!  My hubby printed off some fun designs he found online and used them as guides for creating these puzzles. I think they turned out fabulous – they are all so unique. If you like how they turned out, feel free to check them out on my Etsy shop. You can also make special orders if you would like a specific animal instead of an owl.  We gave these sweet owls to all the little girls in our family under two years (our little one and her two cousins). They loved taking the owls apart and trying to figure out how to put it together again. They might be too young still, but it’s one of those things that they can hold on to for a while. They even look cute just placed on the shelf. I am in the process of getting my husband to make a few more for our kiddos. They are so cute and I love the natural-stained wood look. It feels very authentic and original.  What do you think of these fun handmade wooden puzzles?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! DIY Glittered Antlers

DIY Glittered Antlers

Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas with family and friends! Even though Christmas is over, I’m so thankful it’s still winter. I love any excuse to be cozy and comfy a little while longer! I whipped up a really fun and easy DIY that’s perfect for winter or any season really! I love having antlers as part of my decor. They are so intriguing in there own little way, but add glitter and they are even more fabulous! And you know how much I love glitter lately! I had some antlers I bought a while back – we have a few in our home so I was brave enough to finally try out this little project. I took some simple clear glue and used a paint brush to evenly coat the ends of each point with the glue. I immediately covered the glue with a mixture of fine  gold glitter and confetti. I like the little bits of confetti here and there to create a more whimsical tone! If you are brave, you can use any color of glitter or pattern. I used gold and kept it simple. You can easily make a fun ombre pattern or even a great color block style. I may try to paint them next time I get the chance!  This DIY takes no time at all and is so simple to do. How much better can it get – antlers + glitter = awesomeness! What do you think? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
Thrifty Find: Vintage Folding Wood Ruler

Thrifty Find: Vintage Folding Wood Ruler

I think I picked up this folding ruler a while back at a flea market. It’s one of those pieces you see pop up once in a while! There’s just something about it that I loved, so I decided to finally get one. Plus, you can do really fun stuff with it – like create all sorts of lovely shapes!  I figured, since it’s the holidays I might as well make my ruler into a fun Christmas star. I have it hanging in our front window of our living room. It seems to tie in all of our vintage pieces quite nicely. I have to admit, I was having trouble trying to get the star to look just right. After a few tries I finally got it together! I used some twine to hang it from the window and now I don’t want to take it down!   Most of the time, I have this fun little ruler displayed in our room, but I wanted to give it a little more purpose. I am loving the versitility of this thrifty find! It’s a lot of fun and it has so much character with the chipped paint and rusted metal.  What do you think of my little vintage folding wood ruler, turned Christmas star?! Swedish Inspired Mini Christmas Tree

Swedish Inspired Mini Christmas Tree

There is something to be said about Swedish designs. Right now, I am in love with simplicity and minimalism. Even though you wouldn’t think it if you came to my house. Perhaps it’s the longing to start a clean slate and have nothing but white on white and pops of color.  I decided to celebrate a little bit of my husband’s roots. I picked up a faux mini tree and some ornaments that were all 50% off at Michael’s. I decided to make it our dining room centerpiece. I love the look of the tree with just the few ornaments and the pops of white, red and gray. I tied a little bow at the top with some cute silver ribbon I had on hand and plopped it in a tin flower pot to pull it all together.  Our kids also loved the new addition. I don’t mind so much them playing with this little tree – the ornaments are all knitted and soft. I love the little hearts and birds. Thankfully, they can’t break these decorations! I guess this can be there tree and the big one can be mommy and daddy’s.  Are you a fan of Swedish/Scandinavian decor? If so, what attracts you to this kind of design? Ikea Wishlist

Ikea Wishlist

My husband and I took a trip to LA this weekend with the kids. On the way home, we had to stop at Ikea to grab coffee for the road and do a little window shopping. I absolutely adore this store – it’s fabulously stylish and super affordable! And their Christmas decor? Forget about it! I was a bit bummed because my husband and I had “the talk”. You know, where your husband sits you down and says that you really need to stop buying more Christmas stuff because we are running out of room. He’s right. But seriously?  I would sell all that I have to make room for more – there is just too many cute things out there! I am a sucker for Christmas!!!! I’m pinning ideas all the time!  So, needless to say we really just did the window shopping thing. I walked and cried a little inside and gave him the puppy dog eyes and ultimately left with ZERO Christmas goodies. It was depressing to say the least. I decided to make a little wishlist of all the things I would have left with that day, if I was given guilt free permission:   1. Unscented block candle, white (with these fab bright red numbers) 2. Wreath, assorted designs (I am loving the traditional round) 3. Garland (loving all the assorted designs, and colors) 4. Santa Claus cushion cover (love the vintage vibe) 5. Wood log fabric (For that pillow I’ve been meaning to whip up for years!) 6. Pendant star lamp (loving the silver and white) 7. Gift wrap (I’m a sucker for wrapping paper) 8. Clear glass...
Spice up your home this winter plus a GIVEAWAY!

Spice up your home this winter plus a GIVEAWAY!

Last weekend, my husband and I were able to leave the kids with my in-laws for a little date. Finally! We saw the fabulous movie, Life of Pi, which was fantastic! If you haven’t seen it, you must! It’s such a touching story and so beautifully filmed.  Life of Pi is the story of an Indian boy named Pi, a zookeeper’s son, who survives a disaster at sea and is thrown into an epic journey. While adrift in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with a fearsome Bengal tiger. The movie is now in theaters! You can watch the trailer for Life of Pi here. 1 / 2 / 3 This week I payed a little visit to World Market. There, I fell in love with the gorgeous home decor pieces they are now offering for a limited time in celebration of the film. The colors reminded me of the exotic scenes from the movie! The intricate patterns are always incredible and inspiring!  It was so fun looking at all the unique items only World Market can offer. / 4 / I picked up a few fun items to spice up my home! I wanted to add some color to our little reading nook in the house and these fabulous pieces were exactly what I was looking for! All of a sudden our nook has a bright and fun personality! I now have a little piece of Pi in our home – a warm and comforting nook to sip my tea, read a book and enjoy some quiet time while the kids nap. /...
Oh, Christmas Trees

Oh, Christmas Trees

For the last couple of years, I’ve been collecting all sorts of fun little Christmas trees as part of our holiday decor. This year I decided to display them altogether and I am loving it! It’s so playful and really adds to our woodland theme we seem to have going this year: our owl, bears, fox and mushroom ornaments. Our antlers,  birch wood wreath little miniature trees and pinecone center pieces. It seems we have our own little ecosystem in here!  I love the timeless feel of the bottle brush trees. I spotted the three little vintage green trees at the Pasadena Flea Market a couple years ago. We just added the sea foam green tree, large glitter tree and 50s inspired tree this year! The handmade yarn wrapped trees were from a few years ago as well. I love how the collection continues to grow.  It’s fun to have all shapes, sizes, colors and textures. It doesn’t seem so mundane and boring. I find my eye looking at each one, they are all so different and unique. They are just a small touch to our holiday decor, but an affordable way to add a little more character to your living space!  What kinds of things do you like to collect over the holidays? Do you have a certain style in your decor this year? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram...
