Camping Theme Invitations

Camping Theme Invitations

One of the most fun aspects of party planning for me was designing the invitations. I’ve been a graphic design student for two years now. I love it and am so passionate about design! So naturally, I was super excited to sit down and sketch out what I wanted on my invite. I wanted it to be fun and untraditional. I picked out a palette that had a bit of a vintage flare to it. I also wanted it to be playful, since it’s for the kids!  I did some research on line to see what kind of clever things I could use as a title for the invites. I decided to go with “Attention Happy Campers” which I’ve seen a few times now. Just a fun day to enjoy a little camping experience! The layout is simple and easy to read. I created a fun vintage tent and a sneak peak of what’s to come at the party: food, crafts, bonfire, s’mores, face painting and so much more!  I used fun envelopes I snagged from Pick Your Plum for a fantastic deal! If you haven’t signed up, you really should! I’ve snagged a few great deals now! I tied some fun glittered twine around the invite and finished it off with a few cute little pompoms just for the heck of it! Only a couple days away and I have so much to do yet, but I’m sure having fun! What do you think of these little invites? Does it channel the idea of camping to you? Bedroom Makeover: Completed

Bedroom Makeover: Completed

I am so happy and thrilled to say that our bedroom makeover is finally completed!!! We painted the walls, changed the light fixture, added fun bedside lamps, hung up new curtains, ordered some new blinds and decorated! The last thing we had to do: construct our unique industrial shelving!  I have to say, I have the most amazing husband. He is truly able to create anything you can put your mind to. We had this vision of creating shelving that would take up the entire wall and surround our bed. My husband had spent so much time researching different ideas and materials and finally sat down to draw it out for us. My only request: clothes rails. I just thought it would be fun to have an open space where you could see all the clothes displayed. This would force me to keep everything well organized and clean at all times. We even found vintage wooden clothes hangers to keep it looking clean and sleek. All in all, I helped paint the varnish on the wood shelves and that’s pretty much it. The rest, my handy-man did all on his own!  The shelves totally finished off the room. I have to say, I’ve never seen anything like this before. It truly is original and different than anything we’ve ever come across. It feels like a little boutique with the open closet, shelving and crisp decor. I am so happy we stuck to the simple white walls and industrial touches. It feels so good to have a big project out of the way. I feel like redoing the whole house now! Maybe...
Party Must Haves: Wooden Forks

Party Must Haves: Wooden Forks

I recently received some fantastic wooden cutlery (mainly forks) from the amazing Sucre Shop on Etsy! They have so many lovely items to choose from, it made it impossible to decide! I finally chose some cute forks with playful banners in three assorted colors: green, purple and red. I thought these would be perfect for our camping themed 1/2 birthday party next month! They sort of resemble camping sporks – they were perfect! I love the idea of eco friendly party supplies! The natural wood look is great for any occasion and their designs are fabulous: from chevron, trellises, stars, polka dots to mustaches! I will definately be returning for more fun birthday items in the future!  I can’t wait to serve these fun “sporks” to our guests! I’m sure they will love them as much as I do! It will add a lot of personality to the party decor! This has become a definite party must have in my books! I don’t think I can ever serve normal silverware again!!  What kind of party supplies do you have to have? How do you feel about eco friendly cutlery?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram...
DIY Reclaimed Wood Coffee Table

DIY Reclaimed Wood Coffee Table

We have always been on the search for the perfect coffee table! We have had a vintage table from a local thrift store for some time now. It’s been a great piece, but we decided to start looking again for something a bit more us and better suited for our ever-evolving living space. We decided to make our own coffee table, this way we will have exactly what we’re looking for in a table and enjoy the benefits of making our own! I shared the before pictures of this project, this is the after!  This DIY is super simple. You only need a few parts to make this great creation possible! We found a fabulous slab of reclaimed curly redwood at our favorite lumber store in Arcata, CA. There was a huge selection, but we finally settled on one that was truly unique in shape, texture and color! We also ordered some hairpin legs to add a mid-century vibe to our table. We sanded our table until smooth, then varnished it with polyurethane to bring out all the beautiful detail. We did this about 4 times. TIP: After each coat has dried, use fine grit sand paper to give it a nice gloss finish in the end. We measured where we wanted the legs to go and pre-drilled (this is an important step) and screwed them in permanently with all purposed screws. Just like that, another project was finished!  I am having fun placing different decor on the table and not too sure about the rug. For now, it’s keeping the table grounded and protecting our hardwood floors!...
Fall Decor: Ceramic Squirrel Dish

Fall Decor: Ceramic Squirrel Dish

This gem is one of our many thrifty finds, which we spotted a while ago for 1$. It was too cute to pass up, so we brought it home to enjoy some more! I love so many things about it: it’s woodsy, useful and is great during every season!  This week I have been slowly accepting the fact that it’s another season! It’s been hard to adjust, since the weather has been in the upper 90s and there is no visible change outside. Back in Canada, the leaves would change color and start to litter the ground. The air would become more crisp and the temperatures cooler. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss the seasonal changes! So, it’s up to me to make it feel a lot more like fall! I am slowly changing the decor in my home. I decided to use this ceramic squirrel dish to dress things up a bit! I love the orangey brown of the dish! It’s very much like the same colors you might see on the leaves outside. Plus, I think about the different animals I might find back home getting ready for the winter ahead. I decided that this dish would be cute paired with a few pine cones I have had for some time. I decided this fall/winter I would store nuts in the dish (which I am sure that was it’s intended purpose) and buy a little nut cracker!  This is a simple decor solution for your home. You don’t have to go out and spend a fortune on decor or even buy anything new. This...
Vintage Basket Light Fixture

Vintage Basket Light Fixture

A while ago we found a fantastic vintage wire basket. It was in great shape and we just knew we could transform it into something fabulous for our home! It’s a good thing we grabbed it that day! We sure had a lot of fun with this DIY vintage basket light fixture! This DIY is pretty straight forward, so you can have a unique fixture in your home too! Along with a vintage basket you will need a few supplies: – hanging light fixture (you can find them at Home depot for about $8) – 2-to-1 socket extender (allows for two light bulbs in one socket) – ceiling flange to conceal the wires – two bulbs The basket was almost made to hang like a shade, as it had a hole just the right size for the wire in the light fixture to go through. The directions for installation of the light fixture and the flange were pretty self explanatory, other than the fact that the cord for the fixture had a 2 prong plug  on the end. We were able to snip the plug off and splice the cord into the existing wires where the ceiling fan used to be (I got my hubby to do this!).  The only other thing we had to do was paint the socket extender so it wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb. We spray painted it gold to match the brass light socket. Then, we finished it off with Edison bulbs that we ordered from 1000 bulbs.  Everything is slowly coming together, this light fixture is perfect for our room. It...
Bedroom Makeover: Winsome White

Bedroom Makeover: Winsome White

This week, things have been a bit crazy . We are trying to get our bedroom all finished up so we can live comfortably in our house as a family of four. Our new master bedroom use to serve as my husbands music studio. He had dark grey walls, an orange ceiling (don’t ask) and foam glued in various places to absorb sound during recording sessions. In other words, it desperately needed a new paint job and some work.  It’s not uncommon to see wacky walls in our house. We have sunny yellow and art deco wallpaper to name a few. When it came to choosing paint color for our new room we really wanted something refreshing and different. We recently repainted our nook a beautiful grey, as well as one of the kids rooms. But it didn’t seem quite right for what we were going for. My husband suggested white. WHITE. Is that even considered a color? Well, I decided to trust him on this one. I am the one responsible for paint color going wrong in the past! I am so glad I listened!  We decided on a paint that I like to call winsome white. It is truly beautiful. Every morning I wake up, I feel a wave of calmness come over me. Perhaps that’s one of the rewarding affects of having a clean, crisp white. It will be so easy to decorate. I can finally have just those splashes of color, instead of being bombarded by them. It looks great with all the wood and iron we are planning on having once we create our...
Thrifty Find: Handmade Pottery

Thrifty Find: Handmade Pottery

The last couple of months, my husband and I have been finding handmade pottery while  out thrifting. Before we knew it, we had a little collection forming! I love the handmade feel of these bowls! So much time and energy went into each one, making them very unique from one another. I have been keeping my eyes peeled for even more ceramics and pottery! It’s just too beautiful.  So far we have a large, medium and small bowl. One of them we spotted up in Eureka, CA on our last trip there. We fell in love with it right away and knew we couldn’t leave without it. When you find used or vintage pottery, you are bound to get great deals! We found ours all under $7. I am planning on putting my pottery on display in our kitchen. It’s too pretty to hide! We also have a few more pieces, which I will share at a later time! Hopefully one day we will have a great collection. It really adds to the eclectic and thrifty vibe we aim for in our decor style. I find that they can be used for almost anything! Whether storing fruit on the kitchen counter, using as dinnerware, or just as a fun piece of decor!   Is there anything you like to collect? Or are you just starting to think about it? XOXO, Lidy  Feel free to leave a comment, follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, or Twitter....
Easy Canvas Prints

Easy Canvas Prints

I have always wanted to put my photos on canvas, but never knew where to go. Plus, it’s hard to figure out how to get out of the house with two kiddos! I have to ask myself – is it going to be worth all the hassle? Recently, I acquired an amazing canvas print from a company that not only specializes in these gorgeous products, but banners and signs as well. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with the quality and amazing customer service. Best part is, I didn’t have to leave the comfort of my own home! The website is SUPER user friendly, you’ll be done all your ordering in no time! There’s just something to be said about having a canvas print.  There’s no-fuss and I don’t have to worry about my print laying around until I find a suitable frame. Ah, simplicity is bliss.  I decided to use a picture of my husband and I. I have always loved this picture! Maybe it’s a great memory of our trips to Canada and all the beautiful scenery in the background. It took me forever to decide which picture to use, but I am so glad I picked this one. I decided to make it black and white so it will go with our decor, no matter how much it changes in the next few years! The image is super crisp and clear, now I can finally have a photo of us in our home! Nope, we don’t have one photo of us displayed in our family room. Sad, isn’t it? I can’t wait to hang it...
