How to Host the Ultimate Dinner Party

How to Host the Ultimate Dinner Party

Guest post written by Tali Wee of Zillow Hosting friends for an intimate dinner gathering is always exciting to look forward to, but sometimes the planning and the chaos of a full house can be stressful. But thorough preparations can melt a host’s stress and lead to a seamless and successful dinner party! Consider these six tips for throwing a smooth and memorable dinner party. Theme: Source While not always necessary, incorporating a theme into the dinner party simplifies subsequent steps in the planning process. For instance, a holiday dinner party is perfect for peppermint-infused cocktails and slow-roasted turkey. Planning on throwing a party during the non-holiday season? Incorporate less obvious themes, such as a casino-inspired evening. Decorate sugar cookies to look like poker chips and use playing cards as place cards. To keep the Las Vegas vibe buzzing, entertain guests with games and prizes. For Los Angeles homeowners, a Hollywood-themed party complete with a red carpet, star-shaped place cards and popcorn is another good option. Committing to a theme early on eases the tough decisions for food, beverages and décor but also inspires guests to dress the part. Guest List: Source Preparing a guest list is not always easy. Hosts and hostesses often worry about leaving individuals out and unintentionally hurting their feelings. Select the guest list thoughtfully, beginning with size considerations. Dinner parties should be intimate gatherings of around eight to 12 people. Also make sure friends who are notorious for creating drama are not present. Presumably alcohol is served, and the last thing needed after all the hard work in planning and preparing is an argument at...
Q & A With ezebee.com

Q & A With ezebee.com

Hello friends! I am back from a brief hiatus! I really needed some time away to relax and focus on my family. So many things have happened this past month, but I am feeling rejuvenated and ready to go again! I’m starting this week off with a bang! I had the pleasure of working with a fabulous team of individuals over at ezebee.com! If you haven’t heard of them before, it’s your lucky day! I asked just a few questions you might be asking yourselves right now! 1. What is ezebee.com ezebee.com is a marketplace community where anyone wanting to sell online can sign up, create a shop, and offer unlimited products or services, all for free! It also helps vendors more easily market their brands with a variety of social networking tools, not to mention the helpful community of ezebees. 2. How did ezebee.com first get started? The idea for ezebee.com came up in the summer of 2012 when the two creators, Ossian and Frank, discussed how small, creative companies and freelancers turn to the internet to promote their business in times of economic crisis. Besides running their own website or shop (which for the most part is already a challenge both knowledge-wise and financially), they also know how important it is to be active on social media platforms in order to create sufficient traffic to their websites. Not to mention, spending additional time to optimize for Google and other search engines which takes even more valuable time away from their business. Ossian and Frank searched the web and could not find anything that really combines a working online selling platform with a strong...
Thrifty Find: Handmade Pottery

Thrifty Find: Handmade Pottery

Once in a while, when thrifting, I come across the most beautiful pieces of handmade pottery! My husband and I scored this gorgeous handmade vase at a great little flea market for cheap! I instantly fell in love with the colors, texture and design! I have never seen one exactly like this, which is precisely why investing in these kinds of pieces can be so great! They truly do add character to any room and will never lose their appeal in years to come. This vase in particular, was handmade by the Nemadja Indians and was made from native clay. It’s truly beautiful!  Have you ever come across any great pieces of pottery when thrifting? Be sure to head on over to Casey Lynn Designs blog for the full Thursday Thrifty Find post! Thanks friends for your continued support.  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
Guest Post: DIY Fauxdenza

Guest Post: DIY Fauxdenza

Fauxdenzas have been popping up all over the blogosphere, and as soon as I first laid eyes on one, I knew that I wanted to have a fauxdenza in my living room! — For those who have never heard of a “fauxdenza” the term was coined by Ana of Door Sixteen a few years back, and really its a fancy word for a fake credenza. The Ikea expedit entertainment center that we bought for out first apartment back in 2010 (wow that seems SO long ago) did us well in our first two apartments — though I will be the first to admit that taking it apart and putting it back together again 3 times was not my idea of fun. It was a huge purchase for us at the time (we just finished school and didn’t have much money to spend on a big piece of furniture) so we actually felt really cool and excited to buy something like this on our own! October 2012 When we moved into our townhome in 2011, we of course brought the huge entertainment center with us because it was what we knew, and we were comfortable with it. As soon as we got it in the space I didn’t love it, but I was going to live with it because we had just bought our first home and we again did not have the money to blow on something new. Looking back, I am so glad we didn’t rush into buying something because I can pretty much guarantee it wouldn’t have been nearly as awesome as our fauxdenza is now. So...
Thrifty Finds: Collectables

Thrifty Finds: Collectables

Have you ever found yourself at a store, reaching for a shirt you know you have one just like it at home? Or another pillow you just don’t need? Sometimes, it’s good to know when enough is enough, but I think there is an exception to this rule! When you are dealing with collectables! That changes everything! Right?! The thing about collectables is it can’t just be t-shirts or pillows . It has to be something you value and something you’ll be interested in for years to come! When I go thrifting, I am always on the look out for vintage or antique owls. When you have a one year old daughter who adores them, how could you not. I tend to look for ones with personality, quirkiness and ones that are just plain cute!  Be sure to read the rest of Thursday’s Thrifty Find here! Happy Thrifting friends!
