The Entryway Makeover | Before

The Entryway Makeover | Before

The entryway is where first impressions are made. And if it’s true that first impressions never die, let’s hope it’s a good one! Our entryway definitely had an impact when you first walked in, but it wasn’t a good one. The floors were outdated, the walls were a light green and the banister. Oh, the banister. A clean oak wood, with dark forest green posts, I’m sure it was meant to look modern and unique. But really, it translated as confused and a bit tacky. There was so much going on in such a small space, it was sure to overwhelm all who stepped into our door.  When you try to make your home feel cohesive and smooth flowing, it was always interrupted by our entryway. Something had to be done and quick. But you guys, if I haven’t said it before loud and clear – let me say it again! Paint. And as always, Sherwin-Williams is that super hero that flies in and saves the day.  Boy, does paint give a space that magical touch. So, here was the overall plan: 1. Install new flooring.  2. Paint walls. 3. Remove forest green posts and paint banisters a solid color. 4. Change out lighting.  5. Keep decor clean and simple.  With this is mind, we were more than motivated to start the entryway makeover. Let me be honest, stripping the paint off the posts took us TWO days. It was so incredibly intense and I lost a lot of my enthusiasm. I just kept thinking, what have we started. Because if you’ve done renovations or makeovers before, you’ll know they are always...
Bohemian Modern Living Room

Bohemian Modern Living Room

I’ve been slowly transforming our living room yet again to really suit our relaxed and laid back nature. You might have noticed that I experiment a lot in designing our space, which you can see just a small sample of the previous looks here and here. Walking into the front door, your eyes are immediately level with our living room upstairs. It was really important to me that this room make an impression when friends and family walked into our home for the first time. And if you haven’t noticed, leather is making a comeback my friends! We recently added a new leather sofa and this gorgeous butterfly chair to give our living room that bohemian modern look. Both of these pieces compliment one another, as well as our vintage sofa and other pieces in the room.  Butterfly chairs are an extremely affordable way to introduce leather into the home. It’s versatile and can easily suit a plethora of design styles. In my opinion, butterfly chairs are a must-have this year! They aren’t just pretty to look at, they’re pretty darn comfy too.  We are passionate about the details, which is how we are by nature. So, we stuck with a neutral color palette to keep the room light and airy and added natural elements like plants, wicker baskets, fur, leather and wood. Plus, bringing in some quirk – like hand sculptures and hats on walls.  The room looks inviting, comfortable, modern and mature. It’s exactly what I’ve been trying to achieve, because it really represents both Joel and I as a whole. I am really happy with this room and love just about everything about it – how about you? XOXO,...
Playful Patio Makeover

Playful Patio Makeover

Hello hello! Hope you are as excited as I am for the summer issue of Merry Mag, full of amazing inspiration from a handful of very talented bloggers! Last week, I shared a sneak peek and today I’m all about showing off our new and improved playful patio makeover! I feel so very lucky to have teamed up with The Land of Nod to give our plain patio a pretty makeover! I really wanted our outdoor space to be a happy and bright sanctuary for our family to enjoy together. LON pieces are so versatile and great for literally every space in the home, including outside! They are always on trend and have plenty to choose from. When working on a little space like this (or any space for that matter) I always start from the ground up. The foundation of my design has to set a strong tone for the rest of the pieces to rely on. I went with the Half Shell Scallop Rug in Turquoise! It had a great pattern that wasn’t too masculine or feminine and the color was so peaceful to me. Next, I brought in our main furniture pieces. Since this area would be more for lounging and relaxing, I brought in four vintage chairs that we thrifted for $2 each – not bad, right? I also added this solid Square Up Stool in Mint for displaying our Cacti collection or for when we just want to put our feet up to read or chill. I also brought in this fabulous Faux-Leather Gold Pouf to use as table/ottoman or just an extra seat if need be!...

Home Tour: Violet’s Doll House

Home Tour: Violet’s Doll House

It’s true, I’ve included Miss Violet’s doll house in our home tour. I just couldn’t resist its cuteness! Our little girl turns three this Friday and so Joel decided he would make her a pretty amazing mid century inspired doll house. He converted our old record holder into the new digs for “dolly”. The before pics show the basic structure of the formal record holder. It has the typical mid century legs, a flat top and two removable sliding doors. Joel reconstructed the roof to create a shed roof, which is a common style on mid century homes. He then painted the roof black and the exterior walls white, leaving the legs and front doors natural brown. He cut high windows on the side walls and even “wallpapered” one of the interior walls with retro-styled scrap book paper. What a guy! The inside is pretty basic: white walls and wood floor. Dolly’s furniture is your lovely Huset essentials including the Lack table in Kelly Green (DIY gold dipped legs), Klippan sofa in PINK, the Expedit shelving, yellow chair (DIY “seat cover”…aka….washi tape) and the classic black and white Stockholm rug. Dolly also has her very own decor items, including a custom made sheep skin, cow hide rug, black and white pillows (made of washi tape and toilet paper), a black and white striped throw,  wood stump, “home sweet home” art, “ceramic” vase and plant holder and gold painted and glittered mini wall gallery! This house is styling! The sliding doors are easy to put back on, so it’s good for keeping little brothers from making a mess of things!  I’m...
House Tour: Main Bathroom

House Tour: Main Bathroom

Bathrooms are one of those rooms I’m not super excited about showing off in our home tour. I don’t know if it’s because they always seem so dingy and dark, but after our makeover I am pretty excited to share it! We repainted and laid new tile, which has made a world of difference! The white walls and light floor help the room feel light and bright! It kind of feels like a little spa in our home, which I can’t complain about! I added a few vintage pieces to help the room feel a little warmer – I love our new 70s macrame on the wall! And of course, some custom lighting (DIY coming soon!).  What do you think of this small space?! Be sure to check out our fun Magazine Rack we also added to the room!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
Home Tour: Violet’s Room

Home Tour: Violet’s Room

Violet’s room makeover is finally complete! This space was such a huge project! I had SO much organizing and purging to do, since it was our “throw everything you want to hide” room. I couldn’t believe the bags and bags of stuff that had collected for the past 6 years we’ve lived here! Poor girl, I don’t know how she survived in there. It’s such a joy to walk in now and see a room that is truly and specifically created and designed for her. I was shopping on a budget, so it’s not where I wish it could be, but I am satisfied with the overall transformation! I tried to keep to my inspiration board for the overall feel, although I wasn’t able to bring in some of those amazing pieces. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect rug, some cute curtains and a few other little pieces which I might have to find at The Land of Nod! From a generic nursery, to a very special little girl’s big girl room – enjoy! And I might have added a cascade of falling polka dots over her bed afterwards! It makes the room feel a little more full and brings it all together! So, what do you think friends?! XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Home Tour: Master Bedroom

Home Tour: Master Bedroom

When my husband and I became instant parents to two toddlers, we had to instantly change around our living quarters, happily of course! Our old bedroom became our son’s bedroom (now shared with his baby brother, the nursery (because technically we were expecting only one baby)  became our daughters room and my husband’s music studio became our master bedroom. There was a very small storage closet, a built in desk and a few drawers which was enough to fit all my husband’s clothes and belongings in. For me that wasn’t the case! We decided to build a fun exposed closet made of pipe, as well as a shelving unit around our bed! We also found a beautiful midcentury dresser to complete the room. I think this space has evolved into such a cozy and relaxing area of the house! Every time I walk in, I just feel relaxed and calm – the white walls help the space feel bright and happy! Our DIY shelving unit is the perfect place to display all the fun pieces we’ve collected over the years. I love that this room is built primarily around DIYs, like our Industrial Curtain Rod and our Vintage Basket Light Fixture! Overall, I am so happy with how this room turned out! Hope you enjoy the tour of our master bedroom: XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
