A Fresh Mid Century Find With Wayfair Daily Sales

A Fresh Mid Century Find With Wayfair Daily Sales

Now that summer is here, I find myself looking for fun ways to freshen things up in the house. As you know by now, Joel and I are all about creating spaces that are both affordable and attainable! Whether it’s creating a one-of-a-kind shelving unit for the living room or a thrifted buffet, we do what we can to make our home truly ours!  But let’s be honest! Not all of us can afford to remodel or recreate these beautiful spaces we see in the magazines, no matter how hard we try. For the longest time, I’ve eyed so many gorgeous pieces from all my favorite magazines and blogs, but there was NO way I could spend that kind of cash. Then I signed up with Wayfair Daily Sales and everything changed! With up to 70% off of items, I could suddenly justify spending money on a few pieces to spruce up the space.  Whether it’s a wood shelf for an office space makeover, a rug to add texture to your dining room or fun artwork for the living room walls, it’s just a click away! Best part is, you get deep discounts on all your favorite items to make over any space to suit your budget needs! If you don’t see anything that appeals to you, no problem – EVERY DAY is a new sale with a ton of items to choose from.  Ultimately, I fell in love with this mid century inspired bench (sorry, this item is no longer on sale)! It was perfect for our living room space and I was able to create a little window seat to enjoy all...
Repurposed Macrame Fringe Bag Planter

Repurposed Macrame Fringe Bag Planter

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but things have been a wee bit stressful around here. Yesterday, I had to take a break from the world and regain a little perspective. Joel watched the kids while I did a few errands. Sometimes a little shopping therapy (even if just for groceries) can do the mind some good! Of course, this meant a quick trip to Target where I spotted this great macrame fringe bag that I thought would make for a great project to repurpose! Yes, I love to give new meaning to pieces in fun and unique ways. Kind of like my placemat wall hanging DIY. Directions: 1. Grab a fun bag, a plant (I found mine at my favorite local nursery just down the street from our house) and a vase 2. Be sure to measure your bag before purchasing your plant and vase to ensure it will fit nicely 3. Place the vase into your bag, this will protect the interior from collecting dirt or water run-off 4. Place your plant into the your new plant hanger and enjoy!  I decided to hang my new piece in the main bath. It needed a pop of color and a little life! I never thought a bag would make a fun plant hanger, but I’m sure glad I gave it a try.  Besides the vibrant color, I love the texture it adds to the room. It has that great 70s trend I’m looking for and certainly creates interest in the space. I mean, there’s a bag hanging from my ceiling…with a plant in it. How interesting is that – am I right?! So there you go...
Maps and Brass

Maps and Brass

If there are two things I feel I have a hard time walking away from at thrift stores, it’s maps and brass. They are two things I see everywhere and two things that look great in any style of home!  Maps seem to evoke so much emotion for so many people. Whether they are places we lived, destinations we traveled to or a reminder of where we would love to be! Maps are just awesome, wouldn’t you agree?! When I came across this raised relief map of California, I could NOT walk away. This map is going to be a very sentimental piece for a long time. We are leaving in just a couple months and I know there are going to be days I am SO homesick for California. This will be a piece to truly remind us of our time here and how blessed we were to live in such an amazing place!  As much as I love brass, I don’t just grab anything I can get my hands on. To me, there is a fine line between good and bad brass pieces. The rule I use for myself when looking at brass is, does it remind me of my childhood in the 90s. If yes, I usually walk away! It seems too early to start redecorating my home with those pieces just yet. It’s all about the 60s and 70s for me and a few exceptions like this fabulous brass caribou!   And some how, it’s magic when they are placed side by side! The whole corner of that little space has changed dramatically and I love it!...
Wall Hanging DIY

Wall Hanging DIY

Last week I shared a super simple DIY Fibre Wall Hanging over at Style Me Pretty! Today, I’m back with yet another really inexpensive and EASY way to achieve this decor trend in your home using placemats….yes, you heard you me…placemats!  Materials: Dowel Placemats (I found mine at Target) Hot glue gun Spare glue sticks Directions: 1. Begin by folding each placemat in half (tip: you will need to choose placemats with tassels) 2. Hot glue the two folded sides together 3. Press firmly until hot glue is dry and continue until all placemats are glued in half 4. Begin stacking one placemat on top of the other in a pattern of your choosing – hot glue accordingly 5. Measure your dowel width and hot glue the sides of the very top placemat about an inch toward the center on each side. This will be where your dowel slides in and voila! Hang and enjoy.  This is truly the easiest DIY! You have so many fun colors and patterns of placemats to choose from! Best part is, his project only cost about $13!  I love the fresh pop of color on the walls – perfect for summer and to bring a more vibrant palette to our living room! So there you have it, another DIY to help you get on trend and save you a little extra cash. I am still hoping to learn how to weave, but until then, this will do just fine!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
Put A Number On It

Put A Number On It

I’m not going to lie. Our dining chairs are Eames knock-offs that I bought a while ago because they were a great deal and I thought, why the heck not. Then we purchased our Eames rocker – the real deal – and I vowed to never buy another knock off again. There is such a HUGE difference! Seriously people, worth saving your pennies for. So now we are stuck with these pretty cheapo chairs and I decided to have a little fun with them until I can save up for some new ones! I decided to put a number on it! I love the strong graphic statement it makes and they add a super playful feel to the space! I found some vinyl numbers while I was out and about one day. I thought they would be great for something – even on dresser drawers. In the end, the chairs were the happy chosen ones! Simply peel and place on surface.  The stark black against the white works perfect with the space. The chunky font isn’t too delicate, that it gets lost in the mix! It’s kind of fun to number them, I can tell the kids to sit in seats 1, 2, 3 or 4. A good way to learn how to count – no? Ok, maybe not.  The thing about designing and styling spaces is that you tend to get a little bored faster than your regular joe. So little projects like this are enough to satisfy that itch for change, without spending a fortune!  What do you think about the addition of graphic numbers in spaces? XOXO, Lidy...

Revamped Geometric Side Table

Revamped Geometric Side Table

For the past couple years, we’ve had this wood side table that’s just a little too boring for my taste! It’s been an eye sore long enough and so I decided to give this little guy new purpose and meaning. Alas, our Geometric Side Table! Materials: Thrifted Side Table Contact Paper Scissors Directions: 1. Clean the surface of your side table 2. Measure and cut your contact paper accordingly. 3. Carefully apply the contact paper to your side table surface. 4. Repeat until all sides are complete! Contact paper is such an easy and affordable way to revamp furniture pieces. It’s also equally as easy to remove if you grow tired of the color or layout! The geometric design is the perfect way to give our side table that new and fresh look!  Are you fans of contact paper or do you just go straight to paint?! XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Giant Swiss Cross

Giant Swiss Cross

I’m not over my love for Swiss Cross designs just yet! Pillows, blankets, wall decals, you name it – love it! Joel and I decided to go big on this one and so we created this fabulous giant Swiss Cross for our home!  Materials: Plywood Ruler  Pencil Table Saw Jig Saw Belt Sander Clear Acrylic Gloss Coating Directions: 1. Take your plywood (we used scrap left over from our dining room table) and begin to measure out a perfect square. 2. Cut out your square using the table saw.  3. Begin measuring out your Swiss Cross onto your square, making it as symmetrical as possible. Make changes where needed. We had to make the design a little more wide to get it just right! 4. Using your jig saw, begin to cut your Swiss Cross design from the square.  5. Once all sides are cut and you have your design, use a belt sander to smooth all the surfaces. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.  6. Spray your Swiss Cross with the clear acrylic gloss coating and let dry.  If you aren’t comfortable using all these power tools, no problem! You can always ask for a little help in that department. You can also paint your swiss cross any color you prefer, the options are endless! We were struggling with whether to paint ours black or leave it natural. In the end, we loved the detail of the wood so much, we decided to leave it alone. I’m so glad we did, it feels so clean and modern! Who knew the Swiss Cross design would be so popular in home decor! We...
Shelving Add-on: Modular Cabinet

Shelving Add-on: Modular Cabinet

I’m back from a fun-filled, action-packed weekend! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw your feed blow up as I posted picture after picture of our AMAZING West Elm event (I will share all about that soon enough)! When I got home, Joel had a wonderful surprise waiting for me – as if things couldn’t get any better.  When we first planned our modular shelving unit, we originally wanted cabinets built-in as well. It didn’t happen right away, but it sure happened now! I was BLOWN away by Joel’s craftsmanship. You guys, I’m married to one talented man! I love the beautiful addition to our cabinet, it’s perfect.  With the modular cabinet, I still get that shelf on the top, plus that added storage! It’s a great way to display all the pretties on the top and add even more function. Joel used thin fibre board for the doors, which is a light material making it easy to slide from one side to the other. They came white, so painting was unnecessary – bonus!  The plan is to make a few more and a built in desk – perhaps my future “office” space? We will have to wait until after the move, but I am so excited to think of all the great project opportunities we’ll have in our new house. That’s the best part of moving, I think!  What do you think of the add-on modular cabinet? I feel like it makes the shelf feel more complete now!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Cheerleading Megaphone

Cheerleading Megaphone

Yesterday, our family went on a little road trip to hunt for some treasures. It was the perfect thing to do, instead of being inside all day! We came home with a couple little things, but I had to share this funky cheerleading megaphone with you!  I love quirky pieces, a pop of blue and any kind of typography! It’s an instant eye-catcher and great conversational piece. Mostly because it’s just so random, kind of weird and a little bit fabulous.  There were actually six of these guys, but there was no way we needed them all. One even had a lightning bolt, which was amazing. But we had to go for one of the letters, it’s just one of those things that won’t ever go out of style.  Sometimes you come across some awesome typographical pieces, but can’t find one that’s personal to you. I don’t ever let that stop me, sometimes things don’t have to make perfect sense to fit into your home esthetic. I was on the look out for a “D” for our last name, but no luck. We picked “S” because it was the one in the best shape. It also doesn’t hurt that our son’s name is Sebastian, but in all honesty that’s not why we picked it. Plus, I think we’ll keep it somewhere where little hands can’t touch it!  I can’t get enough of these one-of-a-kind pieces that really bring that character of your home to life. To me, it’s all about how your personality comes out of the decor that makes your home unique and special.  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to...
