Goodbye Yellow

Goodbye Yellow

It’s been three years since I’ve whined about our yellow walls. Although I eventually got use to the brightness, I have always regretted picking out that color. It was fun for a short time, but now it’s time for something a bit more simple and sophisticated!  Let me tell you, I thought picking out paint colors was hard in general. But white especially! Thank goodness for the great employees at Benjamin Moore for helping me decide on the perfect shade! Otherwise, I would still be standing there with 50+ swatches in hand.  We started with two choices: gray or white. I asked my Facebook/Instagram friends what their vote would be and I think most of us agreed on white! We sampled both colors on the wall and I think that helped push us more toward our final decision. It was a small section, but the room already seemed to improve a lot with the white!   We are in the middle of trying just a few more samples, then by the end of today we will hopefully have a brand new paint job! I can’t wait to show you the transformation and you can tell me what you think!  XOXO, Lidy  Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
Art For A Cause

Art For A Cause

I am always on the look out for art to put up on our walls. Over the years it changes, like the seasons. I tend to change my mind a lot, which can be a bit of a problem at times. Things can easily become boring, so I’m always changing my walls around! Plus, I am taking down the old and looking for something new and fresh. I recently came across an amazing organization called Sevenly. Have you heard of them? Maybe I’m the last one to come across this amazing company, but at least I found them, right? What I absolutely loved about them, besides all their amazing products, are their unique stance as a group and team.  Every week, Sevenly works for a cause. Meaning, for those seven days, anything you purchase, $7 will go towards that weekly cause. Make sense? It’s pretty amazing, which is why if you see a cause you are passionate about you have to go for it! It won’t be there for long. Which is why when I saw the cause for adoption, I jumped on it right away!  A few weeks ago, for any product(s) you bought, you would put $7 toward helping a baby increase his/her chances of being adopted in China. How? Most of these babies suffer from a birth defect and often end up dying before they are five years of age. Heart breaking! My donation helped bring these orphans one step closer to finding a forever home!  We can’t save the world in one day, but we can do what we can, when we can. Adoption is...
Dreaming Of A Closet Makeover

Dreaming Of A Closet Makeover

Now that we have three little ones in the home, I am really starting to dream up some ideas for how to better organize the kids closets! Right now, we have a 1940s home with built-ins in two of the three bedrooms. They add fantastic character, but they’ve become a dumping ground for everything!  I decided to share with you the real deal behind my closet’s closed doors! Be warned, this is a disaster zone! I’ve come to realize that our house really lacks space and so I’ve gotten into this habit of just hiding stuff in their closets. Not to mention, we don’t have any other closets in the home really, so I figure they don’t need all that space entirely to themselves. It’s gotten so bad – yikes!! I am afraid to tackle the mess that lies behind those clean white doors. So, I decided to start planning some ideas so that it might put my words into action!  Baby Girl Closet I decided the BEST solution for my problem are some custom closet organizers! I’ve done a lot of thinking and this seems to make the most sense! The closet space is perfect to work with – they are deep and spacious – so creating a great storage unit within their closets will be perfect for organizing all those clothes, toys, books, laundry hampers, extra blankets and so much more! I am thinking up so many ideas and wondering just how much less stress I would have if I could just have the closets of my dreams!  Closet Details While researching some ideas I truly fell...
DIY Honeycomb Wall Art

DIY Honeycomb Wall Art

I have been in love with the all the new geometric home decor ideas flooding Pinterest lately! If you follow my H is for Home Pinterest board, I’m sure you’ve noticed I’ve been pinning a lot of inspiration revolving around geometric designs! They just add a lot of fun to home interiors and seem to make the room come alive! For the longest time, my husband and I have been looking for some sort of art to hang above our bed in the master bedroom. Right now I just have my DIY painted and glittered feathers, which I love!  But I’m wanting something a little more permanent. Or at least until we find something we just HAVE to have!   Then I came across some sales at Michael’s! I found a package of six rectangular wood planks (my rectangles were shorter) for 75 cents! I grabbed five packages with no DIY in mind, it was just too good to pass! I decided that this would be a great opportunity to create something geometric for the walls!  What you will need: 30 wooden rectangular planks (should be medium in length) Hot glue gun Create one hexagon at a time by hot glueing one end of the wooden plank to the other in proper form. Once you have all six of your hexagon’s completed, create the design in which you would like it to be. Take some time to play with the shape by laying it on a flat surface and moving each hexagon around. When you finally decide on your design,  you can hot glue one atop the other to complete...
Geometric Home Decor

Geometric Home Decor

I am starting to love the geometric fad that’s been going around lately. At first, I wasn’t too sure I was a fan, but seeing it as part of home decor makes me second guess my original thinking! I am loving the simple shapes and designs as a fun element in the home. As we are planning out the revamping of our living room I am trying to put some ideas together as far as styling our space goes. I am attracted to the idea of having touches of this element in our living room, whether it be in a new rug or designing some sort of hexagonal shelving. I don’t want to get too fixated on one shape, I like them all! There’s just so many possibilities!   1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8  How about you – do you like geometric designs as part of your home decor? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Party Must Haves: Wooden Forks

Party Must Haves: Wooden Forks

I recently received some fantastic wooden cutlery (mainly forks) from the amazing Sucre Shop on Etsy! They have so many lovely items to choose from, it made it impossible to decide! I finally chose some cute forks with playful banners in three assorted colors: green, purple and red. I thought these would be perfect for our camping themed 1/2 birthday party next month! They sort of resemble camping sporks – they were perfect! I love the idea of eco friendly party supplies! The natural wood look is great for any occasion and their designs are fabulous: from chevron, trellises, stars, polka dots to mustaches! I will definately be returning for more fun birthday items in the future!  I can’t wait to serve these fun “sporks” to our guests! I’m sure they will love them as much as I do! It will add a lot of personality to the party decor! This has become a definite party must have in my books! I don’t think I can ever serve normal silverware again!!  What kind of party supplies do you have to have? How do you feel about eco friendly cutlery?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram...
Room Makeover: Part I

Room Makeover: Part I

Our house has a split wing, 1940s style layout. I love this aspect of it, it creates balance and functionality. Especially now that we have two little ones under our roof! My husband and I decided to move our bedroom to the other side of the house and let the kids take over the other. There, they will have their own rooms and bathroom to share. Our room will be next to the kitchen, which isn’t ideal, but that way we won’t wake the kids those early mornings getting ready for work.  I’ve created a pinterest board dedicated to those ideas and bits of inspiration to help guide our whole process. We are loving the modern, industrial look. The metal, wood and other fun textures. We are thinking “simple” in terms of decor, since the rest of our home is very much eclectic. It will be nice to have a space in our home that feels fresh in terms of design!  We have a bit of work to do: 1. So far, it’s been about packing up my husband’s studio, bless his heart, and organizing all the stuff that has accumulated the last three years. 2. Next, we will have to repaint the walls, ceilings and built-ins. 3. Replace the ugly fan with a DIY light fixture we plan on putting together. 4. Close off the hall entrance to the second bathroom and make it part of our master bedroom (updated lighting fixtures and perhaps the sink down the road).  5. Then we have a HUGE task ahead! We will be designing and constructing an industrial shelf that will take...
Anthropologie Style

Anthropologie Style

The other day, I gave you a sneak peek at our new buffet we found at a local antique shop! I admit, the pictures were not the best! When we first spotted our lovely find, my husband and I both agreed this was one of those pieces you would be drooling over at Anthropolgie. I ALWAYS wanted my house to be designed based on the interior of those stores! I don’t know where they find some of those unique pieces, but when you do find it…GRAB it! Our particular buffet was getting a lot of attention, but we were fortunate enough to get it before someone else called dibs. It has completely transformed our dining/living room area. It was feeling a bit too sterile, but now it’s back to being that perfect balance between thrifty/modern! We have been eyeing SO many buffet’s these past couple months. Comparing prices, debating whether we should buy new or used. We found that the newer buffets were super pricy and didn’t have a lot of storage. Plus, we were really wanting a buffet with a glass cabinet so we could show off our bone china (a wedding gift that has been tucked away for 4 years). I feel so blessed we got our hands on this amazing piece of furniture. It fits our dining area peferctly, comes with plenty of storage and has TWO glass cabinets to display our china! Cha ching!  It’s just our style and I am so happy with the results! Later this week I will show you the new light fixture we hung up yesterday as well! So many...
Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

This morning I woke up with a bit of a heavy heart. If I am to be honest that is. I never let anything get to me for too long. I let myself sort out my feelings, find my footing and keep pressing on. Once in a while, I let all of my current issues in the same room and it’s suddenly way too overcrowded and noisy. I start to feel overwhelmed and a bit defeated. That’s what happened this morning anyway. I started to think about baby stuff, which I often do. Not the adoption process, because that brings me so much joy and excitement. I guess I start to wonder if my husband and I will ever conceive (this has NOTHING to do with our decision to adopt). I think as a little girl, you dream about being pregnant, watching your belly grow to enormous proportions and look forward to labor in the most bizarre way. You know it’s going to be the most excruciating pain you will ever feel, but you know this was part of the plan since the beginning and you know deep down inside you will be ok. You make up that image in your head as to what your baby will look like. Dark hair, light hair, blue eyes, brown eyes, chubby, thin, quiet disposition or a loud one. Normal stuff, right? Then I remember some advice a very wise individual told me once when I was going through a hard time (different issue, different place in life). That shocking question, What if? What if you can never conceive? What if...
