An All Modern Christmas

An All Modern Christmas

If you’ve been a Hello Lidy follower for a while now, you know that I gravitate toward that Scandinavian vibe in our home, especially during the holiday season. This year, I teamed up with AllModern to give our living room an all modern look this Christmas – pun intended! I was really searching for simplicity by incorporating the bare essentials to really give my space an authentic and warm atmosphere. Here are a few tips on how you can achieve this look in your home too: Go for a simple palette that consists of two to three colors. Lots of white is a must! White goes with everything and instantly makes a room look fresh, light and modern. Black and grey are also my go-to accents, which are great for a stylish Christmas interior! You can easily introduce these colors with throws or pillows, while creating a warm and inviting vibe. Try not to crowd your space with too many decorations. Get rid of your everyday decor by storing it away for the season and to make extra room for your Christmas pieces. I really kept the space simple as far as decorating was concerned, but when buying new holiday decor (which inevitably will happen) I made sure to gravitate toward pieces that added great texture and graphic elements to the space. Like a bold black star or grey bead garland. Invest in a statement piece that is both practical and pretty. For years my living room was missing something. We have two rectangular shaped couches and a rectangular coffee table. There were just too many harsh lines and not enough flow. We brought in this amazing coffee table that really helps everything feel a...
Fresh Evergreen Christmas Garland

Fresh Evergreen Christmas Garland

Today, I’ve teamed up with Command Brand to create this very festive and fresh evergreen Christmas garland for your fireplace mantle this season! If you don’t have a fireplace, no problem! You can easily hang this garland on your wall or to frame any area of your home that you desire! It’s the perfect way to dress up your space, while keeping things simple and modern.  Materials Command Clear Medium Hooks (that can hold up to 3 pounds) Fresh winter greens Floral wire Wire cutters Instructions Begin by taking your greenery and overlapping it one onto the other, working in sections. Attach using floral wire. Repeat until you have a long enough garland for your mantle or wall.  You can choose to add different greenery on top of your garland to add variation and texture. Simply attach one at a time using your floral wire once more.  To attach your garland to your wall or fireplace mantle, use your Command Brand decorative hooks and simply follow directions as shown. You may choose to use as many hooks as necessary in order to hang your garland. I used 4 in total. Two at the top and two on either side of my fireplace mantle.  Once your hooks are secured to your surface, be sure to hang your garland so the weight is evenly distributed. Step back, adjust where needed and enjoy! I have been really craving simple decor this season. I love how crisp the greenery looks against the white and it’s just what this space needed. My life seems very chaotic right now, so to balance it all out I’m really tempted to go...
A Nordic Christmas

A Nordic Christmas

When I think of what a Nordic Christmas means to me, I think of all the white that surrounds me during the holidays. The sun hitting the surface of the snow, projecting glimmers of silver specks. The air is clean and crisp, making it easy to want to find something soft and furry to snuggle inside the warm house. And really, when I think of how these attributes define the outdoors, it’s so easy to bring that feeling inside too! Our homes can translate on a design level, what we experience in nature. To really capture a nordic Christmas, this year I’ve gravitated to silvers and grays! I’m using a lot of white and a bit of black for accents. The overall tone of the space should feel monochromatic, because if you live somewhere that gets hit by a lot of snow during the holidays (like Canada), you know that everything seems to settle into one specific color and hue!!  I teamed up with Minted to bring simple and minimal elements to help decorate my space this Christmas. I brought in some winter greens for a touch of nature indoors and hung these beautiful Nordic Noel, Wintry Mix, and Silver Dipped paper ornaments on the branches. Because they are paper, they are lightweight and I won’t risk damaging any of my branches – they are perfect! What kind of Christmas would it be without mountains somewhere displayed in the home?! I love how majestic the Rocky Mountains are here in Alberta, you can see them from where we live and when the snow falls they are even more alluring. These lovely Silver-Foiled Dipped...
Command Decor Damage-Free Wall Tiles

Command Decor Damage-Free Wall Tiles

I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me. Not too long ago, I gave Violet’s room a mini makeover, but today I’m back and sharing even more little additions to her space!! For all you who rent or  hate putting holes in your walls, this goes out to you! Violet’s new wall is just too pretty that I couldn’t bare to damage it for the sake of hanging some art or decor. When Command Brand from 3M contacted me asking if I would like to try out their new Command Decor Damage-Free Wall Tiles, I said one big YES PLEASE! I love how Command Decor gives me the freedom to customize arrangements,  swap out my art as often as I want and without damaging my walls. All you do is hang, change and rearrange! Which means, renters and nail-hole-haters, stick away! And that’s just what I did! Materials Command Decor Damage-Free Wall Tiles Smooth, sealed and finished indoor surface Instructions 1. Begin with a clean and blank surface. 2. Take your damage-free Command Strip and attach the black backing of the strip to the black backing of your tile. Press down firmly until it is secure. 3. Remove the backing to expose the sticky surface of the strip. 4. Take your tile and use the built-in level to ensure your tile is hung perfectly straight! Isn’t that amazing and pretty genius?! Once you have it just right, press the tile to the wall and gently press the center of the tile to make sure the Command strip is secure to the wall. 5....
Design Your Own Wallpaper

Design Your Own Wallpaper

Not too long after I designed this fun DIY Textile and Home Decor cacti pattern using my Sprout, I was dying to create something on a much larger scale! I really wanted to see how far I could take this next project. I thought I would focus on my daughter Violet’s bedroom and create an accent wall using wallpaper that I designed just for her!  As a design blogger, I am always trying to find ways to create spaces that have a distinct style and flavor that people will know as mine. Over the years, I’ve been really trying to hone in on more clean, simple and functional results. Which is why I kept the wallpaper design basic, using soft and feminine colors and one shape that would be appropriate for a 4 year olds bedroom.  1. I started by placing a simple diecut flower shape onto my touch mat and scanned the image. The Sprout is so amazing, as soon as the image has been captured it is automatically uploaded into my gallery. The detail of my shape is outstanding, something I could never do on my own!! 2. I played around with size by placing both index fingers on my flowers and either bringing them together or apart until I felt that it looked about right. I replicated the shapes until I had enough to form a pattern. 3. Once I was happy with the overall layout,  I saved my finished file as a jpg. I then opened my file in Photoshop, where I manipulated the colors a little – I wanted some muted pinks, blues, greens and greys. 4. When I was finally...
Updated Kitchen Lighting

Updated Kitchen Lighting

Hey all! I’m back from a lovely break with my family celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving! Yes, I’m stuffed to the bone and ready to take on the rest of this week.  I’ve teamed up with Lamps.com today to share with you our fabulous updated kitchen lighting! (Don’t mind our cream walls – painting will definitely be in the near future). Now let’s be honest, our lighting before wasn’t horribly out of date. A matter of fact, it was quite bearable and we would have been happy to have kept it around if need be. But it just wasn’t the right fit. Why settle when there are so many options out there that are not only trendy, but affordable! When Lamps.com asked if I was interested in working with them, I couldn’t say no! They have such a lovely selection of lighting and I knew we would find that perfect piece to hang in our kitchen nook area. We took down our old lighting and the space already began to feel more cohesive. We finally decided on this chandelier by Hinkley. It’s simple, current, but still has that mid century vibe to tie in all our other existing pieces! The brushed brass look is subtle, which is what I wanted for the kitchen. I didn’t want it to appear too formal, since this room was more of our casual eating area.  The lighting before sort of blended into the background and really didn’t stand out at all. Now we have a beautiful piece that’s functional and the perfect compliment to our DIY marble top table and thrifted buffet! It’s a lovely accessory...
Two Rugs | Two Looks

Two Rugs | Two Looks

As we are preparing to move, the wheels in my head are spinning! I can’t wait to create a fun space in our home that is truly “us”! I decided to create two room designs based on two rugs: bold and neutral. And at  Wayfair, there are so many to choose from to suit any budget!  Mirror / Art / Lighting / Couch / Pillows / Coffee Table / Basket.  Our style is very much mid century inspired with modern accents. I like the idea of incorporating classic pieces, with current trends. It helps keep everything feeling balanced! But the thing that really ties it altogether are the rugs. I love the idea of a bold rug! Especially the deep blue and geometric design of this one! It compliments the other accent colors and layout of the space. Plus, I have a love for blue right now! I also love the idea of a neutral rug to keep the other accents more of the focal point. Moroccan rugs in particular are very trendy right now and there are so many different variations to choose from! They aren’t too boring, which helps keep the room flowing nicely and this one would be great!  I still have some serious deciding to do, but I wanted to give you all an opportunity to do a little rug shopping yourselves! How does 15% off of all area rugs sound?! ALL area rugs people!! Simply use the promo code RUGLUV29 and you can have the rug of your dreams! Believe me, you’ll want to jump on this opportunity – it’s only good from 7/31 to 8/4, so act soon!  The truth is, Wayfair hardly ever gives out special promo codes. Have...
Suspended Cable Shelving Plans

Suspended Cable Shelving Plans

I was recently asked in an interview what my creative process was when starting a new project. Today I decided to share with you a more detailed and thorough idea of how Joel and I prepare to work on a DIY at home! It really helps us stay organized, focused and determined to get things done!  The most current project we are brainstorming is some sort of shelving unit above our kitchen sink. We have a great window there, perfect for hanging a few plants and simple decor pieces. Our kitchen is needing some sort of remodel, but because we don’t have the time or money to start from scratch, a simple DIY shelving unit should do the trick!   1. Research. Reseach. Research. Before we begin ANY project, no matter how big or small, it’s good to back it up with research. Whether it be for different kinds of materials you can use or to see how it might have been done before,  it’s great to go in with a bit more knowledge. When researching, Joel and I opt for Bing! Why? For a lot of reasons! One being, we are visual people and seeing strong images to back up what we are looking for are important to us. It gets the wheels in our heads turning and pumped to get the job done! Bing is great for finding relevant images for what we are looking for, plus suggesting even more ideas on related topics! Second,  Bing Rewards. Rewards….need I say more?! What other search engine gives you rewards just for doing a little research you are going to do anyway?...
Dreaming Of A Bathroom Makeover

Dreaming Of A Bathroom Makeover

A couple weeks ago I shared our main bathroom tour! It had come a long ways, but we finally gave it that modern touch we were looking for. Now I can’t stop thinking about our very tiny half-bath. I mean, like closet tiny. It’s part of the master  bedroom, but could use some serious updating! I don’t know what we were thinking with that paint color when we moved here 6 years ago, but I am dreaming up some ideas for what I wish it could be!  Since the bathroom is so small, I would love to get rid of our pedestal sink. With all the amazing selections of bathroom vanities out there, I was hoping to create more floor space by having something that was wall mounted! There are so many options out there, but I’m definitely leaning toward the more modern vanities!  The first thing I would want to do is paint those walls white, creating the illusion of a more open space. I would love to replace our lighting with something more minimal like the one in our main bath. I would love to have simple accent colors like natural wood or even grey. Anything to make the space feel more simple and clean!  If I was feeling adventurous, I would even lighten up the floors by replacing that dark grey tile with something more bright! It would match perfectly with one of those fabulous contemporary vanities I’ve been eyeing! I’m hoping we will have the time to do this before we move! If not, I guess I could always carry these plans onto our new home! ...
Hibiscus Tropical Punch

Hibiscus Tropical Punch

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #FlavorforLess http://mydisclosur.es/OBsstV May is a busy birthday month in our house hold! Our daughter just celebrated a birthday a week ago and now our son is going to be four in just a few short days! I love planning parties and coming up with fun little themes I know our kids are going to love! We decided to do a bright and colorful tropical party for our son this year! Think lots of pineapples and flamingos! I am busy putting together some yummy treats and drinks to serve our guests that are both adult and child friendly. Since the weather is starting to get hotter, I really wanted to serve a refreshing drink that wasn’t going to be loaded with sugar and calories. I decided to make a delicious Hibiscus Tropical Punch! But like most punches, the base is usually soda and that means a lot of sugar and a lot more unnecessary calories. Luckily, TEN calorie products offer a great variety of sodas that offer a lot less sugar and are a lot better for you, so I don’t have to worry about sacrificing that refreshing taste!  What you will need: Hibiscus Tea Bags 7 UP Ten  Pineapple Juice A variety of cut up fruit (I used fresh pineapples, strawberries, grapes, blueberries) What to do: Boil your water and steep your hibiscus tea until cool. Pour 1/3 tea, 1/3 7 UP Ten and 1/3 pineapple juice into your pitcher. Add ice...
