DIY Carved Monogram Wood

I have to admit, I was a little anxious to do something with my hands today. I’ve been sitting around a lot and decided to do something creative and fun! It’s been so hot here lately, the last thing I wanted to do is move around! But I am so glad I did something today.  I think it’s so cute how people still show their love for one another by carving their initials into trees! I don’t know if my husband and I ever did that, but it’s never too late! I know it might seem silly, but I’m a hopeless romantic and like to try things on my own in new and different ways.  I found an old piece of scrap wood and put a quick coat of paint in mint and black to give it some texture and depth. Then, I quickly drew out a rough idea of what I wanted to carve. I took an x-acto knife and started to carve out my design carefully.  I think it’s a somewhat fun and unique. I might want to try it again with another design that’s a bit more modern. This was a sort of test run, but I think I like the idea of carving out your monogram onto wood, even if it’s not on a tree per se!  What do you think about carving your monogram or design in wood for your home?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Inspired By The Land Of Nod Wall Clips

Not too long ago, my husband and I came across some fun vintage clips from a yard sale. For the longest time, we weren’t too sure what we could use them for. They had so much character, it just seemed like a waste to not show them off somehow. Then I was inspired by The Land Of Nod‘s And You Brought a Wall Clip!  I decided to repurpose the vintage clips and display them as part of our home decor! I bought these great prints from a fun little store a while back. They were an odd shape, so I couldn’t find any frames that would work. These inspired wall clips are perfect for them!  I love to find fun ways to display prints and art in our home. Wall clips are great for changing out prints easily and quickly. There is a certain charm to them as well, they are very fun and playful! I think The Land of Nod’s wall clips are fantastic! I love how big they are, perfect for all kinds of fun things in any room. I think they would be great at our back door where we go in and out of the most. I could easily hang my diaper bag, the kids coats, keys and other items. Anything to get up and off the floor! Unfortunately, my vintage inspired ones aren’t as useful. They are a lot smaller and wouldn’t be very good for heavier items, other than displaying prints. However, they have a purpose now and I’m happy with them! They are the perfect size for these two pieces of art...

DIY Trophy Jar For Storage

You might remember a post I did not too long ago of our trophy cycling jar (which happened to be featured on HGTV blog)!  Well, I had to just share these two with you that we pulled from our storage not too long ago! They were just too fun to disregard.  I love how quirky these jars are! They are great for storing those random little things. Like our vintage marbles, some antique keys and retro letter cubes. I think it adds some flare to our shelf and it personalizes our space. We found a few vintage trophies and grabbed the ones that were the most interesting, such as our fish and eagle.   It’s such an easy project and it is a great DIY to try out! It sure adds a great look to your space. It’s one of those things that catches your eye right away! It’s the perfect mix of bizarre and fabulous!  Since we’ve been slowly updating our living room, we are going through old boxes of stuff and I am so happy we came across these. They were a lot of fun to make and it would be such a waste to leave them in a box out in the garage! What kind of fun DIYs have you been making lately? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! White And Bright: Living Room Makeover

Last week we got so much done around the house! We’ve had a few things on our to-do list for YEARS and we finally crossed them off! The one at the top: paint our yellow walls!  For the last three years I’ve had a very yellow living room. It was fun for a while. It kind of went with our personality as a young couple. Then, over the years it began to grow old, as most colors will do over time. For the last year I’ve been begging my husband to let me paint the walls. At first, we thought adding wallpaper would help. It did for a while, but it was just time to say goodbye to the yellow walls once and for all. For a few weeks we’ve been trying to decide on a neutral color: grey or white. I took some votes, tried out some samples and the winner was clear: Cloud White! It seemed boring at first, but white is great for so many reasons. It’s a super easy color when decorating the room. It brightens everything up and makes the space seem more open and a lot bigger. It’s calming and relaxing. I absolutely love it!  I have to admit, because we had a lot of furniture pieces and prints that were very neutral looking (since a lot can clash with our original yellow walls) the room seemed like it was missing something. We decided to add some color by bringing in a fun patterned rug we’ve had for years and adding some plants! I think having some green touches really makes the room...

Woodland Themed Party Planning

The other day, I created a post of inspiration for the party. I’ve slowly been collecting stuff over the months and trying to plan out the details of the party. I really have been distracted this week with so many things going on. I finally had a chance to lay it all out and see what I had to work with so far!  I found the most brilliant invites from Target of woodland creatures (and a few other animals) that were also masks! I thought this was PERFECT! I could send out the invites and the kids could bring them to the party and wear them for fun – I know our little guy will love this! He’s already picked out the fox and our little girl picked out the bunny.  I came across some great earthy mushrooms for the cake toppers from Michael’s. I am just on the look out for a fun little creature to add as well – perhaps a little bear or deer?  I decided to keep the decor simple, so I have a nice blank banner to work with that I can add some detail too. I’m thinking of adding moss in some way. We will see! I also came across some fantastic birthday placemats from World Market with activity sheets on the back. Our son loves this when we go to restaurants, so I will have some crayons at all the picnic tables and these fun sheets to keep them kids busy!  I also love these ride striped straws and red chevron candy bags. I think they work well, they remind me of...

Faux Vine Wrapped Vase

A while back I stumbled upon some really neat wired yarn in the discount section. I wasn’t too sure what you could really use it for, but it was a lot of fun to look at and I decided to get it anyway! I actually got it in two different colors: a vibrant pink and brilliant green! I played with it for a while and finally decided on using it as faux vine, since it shapes and forms perfectly to anything you set your mind to!  I think it adds a playful texture to a rather boring white vase. Not to mention, when I grow tired of it I can easily unwrap the wired yarn and use it for something else down the road. It’s really a simple solution to add that pop of color or texture to a room or space. I decided to cut a few branches from our bougainvillea, the pop of colors side by side really help this vase stand out in a bare room. You can really use this wired yarn for anything. It was so easy to wrap around my ceramic white vase. I thought wrapping the wired yarn randomly would give it more of an authentic and rustic feel.  I love finding unique and simple solutions for sprucing up a space. Not to mention, any excuse to get a good deal on craft supplies!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...

Russian Doll Themed Party With Minted Decor

Last weekend we celebrated our little girl’s second birthday! This was, however, our first birthday spent with her. It meant so much to us to really make her feel special and do something fun and meaningful. I decided a while ago to do a Russian doll theme party – mostly because this theme really centered around her cute personality! In a lot of ways, she is our little “doll”. She has so much personality and the more we get to know her, the more we discover just how special she really is. She isn’t just any girl, she is our girl. This party was so fun to plan! I decided to add a feminine touch using this great Retro Floral Garden Party decor from Minted! I was able to save myself so much time and really pull together a cohesive look in every little detail: from the straws, to the stickers, to the banner, the menu cards, to the goodie bags, it was perfect! I was even able to design the invites, cake topper and other signage with a similar color palette for the party to match my wonderfully Minted look and help stay focused on my Russian doll theme I was going for. I am so happy with how it all turned out!  The best part is, our little girl’s eyes just lit up when she saw all the pretty floral patterns and pinks everywhere! Before all the guests arrived, her and I walked around the tables and looked at all the pretties! She was constantly pointing out every little thing – it truly made me feel satisfied...

Dining Table DIY Ideas

I’ve been blessed to have my mom down to visit for the last couple weeks! It was so nice to have some of my family a little closer for a change. It’s funny how kids change everything – suddenly saying goodbye is SO much harder than it already once was. To take my mind off of things, I decided I would see what projects we could tackle next in the house. I decided it was time we start looking at options for a new dining room table!  I am totally all about doing projects yourself where you can, when you can. This would be one of those times! There are so many ideas on the web to help guide you along. There’s something very rewarding creating something from scratch. You really do appreciate it a lot more! I decided to share some of my favorite ideas. I am loving a simple wood and metal table. I love the contrast and textures of these two materials and I think this look would be perfect paired with our new dining room chairs (I will share them with you soon!).  Number One: Number Two: Number Three: Number Four: What is your favorite?! Are you a fan of this looks? Let’s hope my husband and I can agree on one!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...

Birthday Cake and DIY Topper

This past weekend we celebrated our daughter’s second birthday! We had so much fun with friends and my mom was even able to be here for it as well. We feel so incredibly blessed by all the positive and loving people we get to surround ourselves and our children with. The party was a hit and I owe it all to the wonderful people that came out to celebrate with us! So, for the next couple days I will be sharing the details of our fun party with you!  The past month has been a rough one for us. A lot of disappointments and strife, so I was feeling really drained this weekend. I decided the party should be fun and not so stressful, so I opted for buying a delicious birthday cake instead of making one. We ordered the Pink Champaign cake at one of my favorite bakeries in town, called Sweet Surrounder. They also sell ADORABLE miscellaneous items in their little shop. The cake was phenomenal and everyone loved it – especially the birthday girl!  The cake itself was very simple, but beautiful. The icing was a pretty pink with pink chocolate shavings to top it off. I decided to make a cake topper by designing a little Russian doll to go with the theme and Minted stickers. I simply applied it to a wooden skewer and centered it on the cake. It was perfect! Not too much, but just enough to pull it all together and stick with our birthday theme!  I can’t wait to show you more of my Minted party decor! I can’t imagine...
