Yesterday, I shared with you how my husband and I were shopping fiberglass shell chairs. We felt it was time to introduce a furniture piece that was a good investment and something that felt perfectly aligned to our style and aesthetic! For as long as I can remember, Joel and I have loved midcentury modern furniture, especially Eames designs.
It was so surreal walking into Modernica a few weeks ago on the hunt for a new piece. It’s a strange feeling seeing in person all those chairs, shelving units, tables, planters and sofas in person. To be surrounded by some of the most timeless and classic pieces was such a treat! It was so hard to leave, I wanted to move in and make myself at home.
We even brought our kids with us, which was terrifying! I did not want anything to get broken or damaged, so I was relieved nothing was harmed in the mean time. Our three year old son said to me,” Wow mom, this is really beautiful furniture”. Naturally, I felt that was confirmation we were in the right place, at the right time!
There are SO many amazing chair designs to choose from, not to mention colors! I so badly wanted a pink rocker, but Joel wasn’t too keen on it. Maybe one day? Our natural inclination was to go for the bold black or clean white, but we wanted it to be a color that popped. But not in a bright way! As much as I loved the green or yellow, it wasn’t something I could see in my home 5 to 10 years from now. Those colors are best used for accents!
We decided to go with a color that was still a darker shade, like black, but also a color that brought stability, like white does in a room. Of course, something that was neutral, making it easy to go with any color palette. Joel suggested indigo because that’s the color of blue jeans and blue jeans go with any color. Point taken.
Indigo it was! It even matches our velvet pillows! It’s the perfect pop we were looking for, but something that’s not so loud it steals all the attention from the other pieces in the room. I am just so thrilled we have an original Eames rocker amidst our home decor!
What do you think of this color? There were SO many choices, it felt impossible to choose only one. What would you have picked?
