Happy Happenings

Happy Happenings

This past weekend we decided to get out of town. What an adventure it turned out to be! A drive that should only take 3 1/2 hours ended up taking MUCH longer. The traffic was pretty crazy, considering it was the long weekend. The sun was blazing in the car, making everyone pretty cranky. So cranky in fact…

I remember hearing this gurgling sound from the back of the car. The kids have been pretty sick with the cold for a few days. I was thinking it was coming from their nose? Or mouth? What the heck is that sound?! I turned around to see my little girl looking as shocked as I, when a stream of vomit came out from her mouth. EWWWW! Seriously, what the? We made an emergency pit stop at the closest exit. In chaos and panic, my husband and I jumped out of the car before it completely stopped. We unhooked the seat and took her out, removed her soiled clothing, wiped her down and wiped her down some more. We did our best to ignore the smell that now resided in our hot car. Windows down my loves, this is going to be a LONG drive. If we only knew…

No more than 15 minutes later, there was that sound again. SERIOUSLY? As I turned around, I saw the sheer disgust in my eyes – in his eyes – as I realized our little boy was now releasing a stream of vomit from his mouth. Oh. My. Gosh. We have contracted the flu. And we are only 20 minutes from our destination. Please, God be merciful! Again, we found ourselves searching for that nearest exit. This time, a very upper class neighborhood. Nothing but gated communities and Lexus cars. Who are these people?! Please don’t be offended as we remove our puking kids from our very smelly car. For the second time now removing the soiled clothes. This is what it’s really like being a parent, right? Doing things you really didn’t signed up for – jokes on me. But I would do it again and again.  If it wasn’t for the laughter and smiles in the back, reminding me why it’s worth it all. Why I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world, but that puke-y, hot smelly car.

Needless to say, we made it to the beach and had a great time with family. It was perfect weather and we made some more perfect memories. That’s what makes up a happy life these days. All those compiled memories you hold on to. The ones you visit often when things are down and rough. You laugh at those moments that were once far from laughable. I am so grateful for the memories I have locked away. How about you?

XOXO, Lidy

How adorable are your cuties! They will laugh over his story when they’re older 😉

Thank you so much! Yes, I think we will all laugh one day 😉 For now, I shiver at the thought of another road trip like this! haha

  • I heard that gurgling sound from my little one on both Christmas and New Years Eve…and got puked on both times. I also fished his #2s out of the tub several times in the past week. I wanted to get mad, then he just looked at me with those big, hazel puppy dog eyes and all I could do was laugh and hug and kiss him. Sometimes it’s the most unfortunate times that make you realize how special being a mother is.

Hope your little ones are on the mend!

Aw, poor little guy :( But it’s so true – it’s those moments that we see what really matters. Oddly enough!

A few years back that was NO gurgling sound when our son exploded with vomit on our way to Colorado. As we pulled over that was a hotel near by. We begged for clean towels to clean up our son, the car and us. with the mess pretty much gone on the road again we went.

Oh my gosh, I can’t imagine!! I pray it doesn’t happen again…it’s just one of those things I would so much rather battle at home and not on the road! Thanks for stopping by.

      XOXO

Liam did that on the Grapevine, in our rented car, when we were headed from Bako to Anaheim last summer. Fun times.

    • HelloLidy

Hey, at least it was a rental 😉 There is nothing worse than that smell on a hot day!

It was pretty nice to get away for a few days. It gives you a nice new perspective on life when you can get out of town! It doesn’t happen often enough for us, but when it does we are sure to enjoy that time!

    XO
