House Hunting in Calgary: The Green House

House Hunting in Calgary: The Green House

House Hunting

I know it’s been a while since I’ve done my House Hunting feature. To be quite honest, it’s so depressing trying to sell a home you LOVE and buy another you hope will compare! We’ve lived in our home for 6 years and with it comes so many happy memories. It’s hard to say goodbye…

House Hunting

Needless to say, today’s post won’t be how I would remodel a home, today I’m starting with the basics. The home in my first house hunting post sold within a few days being on the market, because that’s how it works in Calgary. You see something you want and it’s gone in a blink of an eye.

As we are working on selling our house and getting things squared away, I’m feeling more free to look more seriously. But here’s the catch: Calgary homes cost FOUR times more than our California home. Yes, it’s insane.

I came across this house, which I can easily see ourselves fitting into comfortably. I’m afraid to shout from the rooftops that this is the one, I’m sure it will be gone before I know it. The green house (which we shall call this one) has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, plus a full finished basement with a hobby room (possible office and crafting space), media room, workshop (for Joel’s projects), laundry room and extra storage! Plenty of space for our growing family! It’s bright and open, which is something I love about our current house right now.

It would be a dream to move into a house that doesn’t require too much fixing up and ready to be moved in. I get heart palpitations thinking about packing up all our stuff, making this long trip to Canada, unpacking, settling in all while trying to control three wild toddlers.

For now, I’m taking it a step at a time. First thing, sell our house. Second, find new house. It’s that simple, right?! I wish. Do you have any packing, moving, buying, selling advice?! I would love to hear it!

XOXO, Lidy

  • I like it alot! searching online helps so much. We did the same thing. Got an offer on the MN house then narrowed in our NC search. I really only looked at 5 houses in person (lee looked at several before I got to NC) and we made an offer. I boxed up clutter before home showings and it really did help keep the house more clean. Its a whirlwind though!

Thanks Julia! It’s really hard trying to buy a house from this far, I wish more than anything we could view some of these in person. But this one looks pretty great! I think I may start taking your advice and just start boxing up all the little decor pieces and toss (or sell) ones we absolutely do not need. I’m looking forward to getting rid of all the “stuff” I know is hiding in closets and storage from our vintage shop days 😉

  • We tried to shop from afar, too, when we moved to Minnesota from Virginia, but there was sooo much pressure to make quick decisions. Ultimately, we decided to keep our things in storage and do a short term rental while we looked. Being in town and getting a feel for how easy/difficult it was to get places, what neighborhoods felt like us, and having the time to really shop for something we would love made sense. The kids had a great time in our rental and viewed it like one big camping trip and we got the time to make a decision we would be happy with longer term. Good luck! I will be thinking of you all!

This is so helpful – thanks! I think we may have to do that. I’m worried if we make a quick decision, we might make a mistake along the way. I don’t want to buy for the sake of buying, but as long as we have somewhere to go I won’t complain! I could definitely use some time to look around and be there in person to get a better sense of places. It’s SO stressful!!

  • This house looks amazing! Whatever space you find, I know you and Joel will make it a beautiful home :)

Thanks Rachel :) We might just have to rent for a while, but no matter, I’m so excited to start fresh!

      XO
