So I finally learned to make my own macrame! Yesterday I shared my plans for our mini laundry room makeover. Out of the four options I was thinking about, I decided to combine a few of them! It was so much fun and incredibly relaxing! It’s not perfect by any means, but learning new skills is what I’m all about.

I decided to do a couple fun designs – your basic square knot and double hitch diagonal! I used white cord and dipped the ends with blue dye to give it just a little pop of color! I like how it doesn’t completely conceal the washer and dryer, but adds that fun texture to the tiny space in the hall! Joel made custom made hooks to attach to the ceiling and hang the rod from! It worked out perfectly!

It’s so easy to move out of the way when doing laundry, I made a simple tie to hang one side of the curtain when I need to get to the dryer or washer. When we move, this will still be a neat piece to hang on the wall somewhere in our new home. Maybe even over a bed, it would make a great statement piece!

I hope to play around with macrame a bit more! I would love to create a larger piece and add strands of color to really pop! I’m also really excited to experiment with weaving as well! I would love to take this class, still debating on it! How cool would that be?! I’ve always LOVED Maryanne Moodie‘s work!!!

Well, there’s our mini laundry room makeover! In the end, I hope it feels like the space has some sort of personality of it’s own. I just can’t wait to have an actual room to do laundry in one day and not have to do it in the living room all the time!

What do you think of this macrame fad?!

  • I looooooove! Still trying to figure out how I want to incorporate macrame into my home… definitely digging the trend!

Thanks so much Amy! It was so much fun to make, I know you’ll love it! Seriously, you can use it anywhere. You can make them as big or small! I love them over beds, instead of traditional headboards or as a statement piece on a dining/living room wall! Can’t wait to see what you do!

  • So beautiful! I love those diagonal stripes in the middle, what a great touch! I want to try a macrame or yarn art project, too, but I don’t think I can compete with all the fabulous DIYs out there!

Marlene, you can do it! It’s so easy and I’ve seen the amazing DIYs you come up with!!! I would love to see your little twist on one of those projects – Macrame is so easy, it will surprise you :)

I love the dip dye on the ends! My parents have an original vintage macrame that I’ve been eyeing. I never ‘got’ it as a kid but now I adore it!

Thanks so much! Yes, I totally know what you mean! At first I thought they were totally not my thing or style, but then I realized it can really fit into any style of home. It just needs vision :)
