It’s Father’s Day! I found these pictures of my dad today. I look at them and wonder how come I got so lucky. It seems these days its rare to have a strong relationship with your father. Some have abandoned their families; some have passed on; some don’t want to be father’s; some are around, but they are emotionally distant and love unconditionally. Then there are the father’s that have made you the strong individual you are today. I’ve never had to do anything to earn my father’s love. He always gave it, even when I was somewhere I shouldn’t be. He always had my best interest at heart and sacrificed years of his life so my brother’s and I would have a stable home and upbringing. I can’t thank him enough for that. Even though I am a married woman, I still look up to him in so many ways. He has wisdom to share and insight into things I have not yet experienced. It’s funny, when you’re young your dad is your worst enemy. He is the one always grounding you, punishing you, spanking you, and being the authoritative figure. Then you look back and realize it was still because of his love that he did those things. I would say I am a lot like my dad. We are both a bit stubborn at times, very forgiving, and we like to communicate openly and honestly about our feelings to others. I am proud to be his daughter and grateful to God for giving me a wonderful dad. Happy Father’s Day! ... read more

::Lemony Sweet Tea:: I discovered this recipe from Martha Stewart…it’s the perfect drink for a typical California day! When the temperatures are getting close to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees celsius) you will do anything for a cold refreshment….and why not a tasty one! This recipe is great with fresh mint! Hope you try it sometime, it’s simple and delicious. Ingredients 7 cups water 6 orange pekoe tea bags 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 1/3 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish 1. Bring 4 cups of the water to a boil in a medium saucepan and add the tea bags. Remove the pan from the heat, cover it, and allow the tea bags to steep for 5 minutes 2. Remove and discard the tea bags. Add the sugar to the saucepan and stir until dissolved. Add the remaining 3 cups water and stir to combine. Transfer the mixture to a pitcher, and add the lemon juice. Chill thoroughly before serving.  3. Serve over ice, in tall glasses garnished with mint sprigs. Enjoy... read more

Ruins I came across these pictures the other day that I took while my husband and I made a road trip up to Northern California. It’s a totally different world up there. It’s beautifully decorated with green trees, the air is fresh and crisp and the over all scenery is breathtaking. These particular pictures were taken when we stopped for a picnic lunch in Shasta, California. The beautiful brick ruins were once a very vibrant and busy gold mining town. It is said that Shasta is one of the best preserved ghost towns in California. It’s amazing to see in person. It’s strange to open the huge iron doors and walk into a building filled with grass, flowers and an open sky overhead where a roof use to be. Besides these old buildings, there are trails you can walk with little historic sites a long the way! It’s definitely a must see if ever you find yourself heading in that direction! ... read more

Fashion smashion Fashion is one of those things that constantly change. A thing that constantly improves or gets worse. It’s something I love, but also hate. Simply because I can’t afford to go through my closet once a week to get rid of last months finds. It’s too expensive, even when I’m shopping at the cheapest stores. The thing is, you have to invest in clothing and not just buy into a fad. I have friends that own super cute  clothes they have had for years. If you’re anything like me, I don’t hold on to clothes more than a year unless its denim. That’s throwing away money. It’s a tricky thing, trying to visualize whether somethings are going to be cute the next summer or the next 3 years down the road. It’s easier to to pick out the ones that will be short lived. It takes practice and patience. As silly as it seems, you save so much money learning to invest in articles of clothing that you can hold on to for years. Quality has a huge role in this and it means you may have to spend a little bit more, but people say its worth it. We’ll see, I’m still learning this whole new thing too. I’m hoping I will still be able to keep up with the style, look cute and save money. If you like some of the fads going on, I realized that stores like Forever 21 and H & M are really good for buying into those looks for a lot less money. That way you’re still caught up with... read more

Your figure, Ladies I realize that in order to stay fit and feel good about my body, I have to participate in exercise and good eating habits. Easier said than done. For me anyway. The last few weeks I’ve been trying to come up with a workout routine that will keep me going to the gym consistently and actually looking forward to it.I’ve been running 30 min, riding the bike 15 min and doing weight machines for another 30 minutes. Results: I hate my life. The routine is so boring and I seem to have hit a plateau. Because of my attitude, my routine happens once or twice a week. The weird thing is, I feel more lazy than ever! It wasn’t until today, that I went to an exercise class. I realized that was the push I needed. There is something about being surrounded by people that are all there for the same reasons as you. Some pushing harder than others, which motivates me to work hard and not slack off on some of the drills. Not to mention, when it was all over I felt excited to go again!  There was a  sudden boost of confidence that reminded me why I should make it a habit to be healthy. I am going to really try my best to make it a priority to go to the gym a few times a week throughout the year. Not just when summer is approaching and I’m nervous to put on shorts or a bathing-suit. It has to be more than looking good, I have to feel good about myself. Then... read more

All things turquoise…. Woke up this morning and was loving the color turquoise. Our main bathroom in the house is that color…it feels inviting, clean and relaxing. The best thing about this color: you can have it on almost anything and it always looks good. It looks beautiful on jewelry, clothing, walls, wallpaper, furniture and I’m sure houses or cars (if you’re bold enough)! Okay, maybe not. But you get the point. If you go onto etsy.com, you will find the main page has all things turquoise today too. Go figure. Here are a few pictures that stuck with me today…... read more

::Fun and funny:: My husbands birthday is coming up and this is the only gift idea I’ve got so far. Threadless is an artist my husband and I came across on the Renegade Craft Fair site. It has some of the most hilarious Tee shirts I have seen. If you knew my husband, then you would know he LOVES his tee shirts….which is probably why this is his new favorite company! Here’s just one example…enjoy. ... read more

Crafts, art and fun….Oh my!  I came across this on Etsy.com. Let me just say that I am SO excited for this! It’s a two day event packed full of craft workshops, over 250 artists to check out and live music! I think I’m gonna have to find myself a Polaroid to snap shots of all the fabulous ideas I might discover. Not to mention, a fork lift to haul all the things I might end up buying! If you are a lover of handmade treasures: I’m talking  clothing, housewares, posters, prints, plush items, ceramics, jewelry, stationery and a trillion more, you gotta check this out! ... read more
