An All Modern Christmas

If you’ve been a Hello Lidy follower for a while now, you know that I gravitate toward that Scandinavian vibe in our home, especially during the holiday season. This year, I teamed up with AllModern to give our living room an all modern look this Christmas – pun intended! I was really searching for simplicity by incorporating the bare essentials to really give my space an authentic and warm atmosphere. Here are a few tips on how you can achieve this look in your home too: Go for a simple palette that consists of two to three colors. Lots of white is a must! White goes with everything and instantly makes a room look fresh, light and modern. Black and grey are also my go-to accents, which are great for a stylish Christmas interior! You can easily introduce these colors with throws or pillows, while creating a warm and inviting vibe. Try not to crowd your space with too many decorations. Get rid of your everyday decor by storing it away for the season and to make extra room for your Christmas pieces. I really kept the space simple as far as decorating was concerned, but when buying new holiday decor (which inevitably will happen) I made sure to gravitate toward pieces that added great texture and graphic elements to the space. Like a bold black star or grey bead garland. Invest in a statement piece that is both practical and pretty. For years my living room was missing something. We have two rectangular shaped couches and a rectangular coffee table. There were just too many harsh lines and not enough flow. We brought in this amazing coffee table that really helps everything feel a...

Fresh Evergreen Christmas Garland

Today, I’ve teamed up with Command Brand to create this very festive and fresh evergreen Christmas garland for your fireplace mantle this season! If you don’t have a fireplace, no problem! You can easily hang this garland on your wall or to frame any area of your home that you desire! It’s the perfect way to dress up your space, while keeping things simple and modern.  Materials Command Clear Medium Hooks (that can hold up to 3 pounds) Fresh winter greens Floral wire Wire cutters Instructions Begin by taking your greenery and overlapping it one onto the other, working in sections. Attach using floral wire. Repeat until you have a long enough garland for your mantle or wall.  You can choose to add different greenery on top of your garland to add variation and texture. Simply attach one at a time using your floral wire once more.  To attach your garland to your wall or fireplace mantle, use your Command Brand decorative hooks and simply follow directions as shown. You may choose to use as many hooks as necessary in order to hang your garland. I used 4 in total. Two at the top and two on either side of my fireplace mantle.  Once your hooks are secured to your surface, be sure to hang your garland so the weight is evenly distributed. Step back, adjust where needed and enjoy! I have been really craving simple decor this season. I love how crisp the greenery looks against the white and it’s just what this space needed. My life seems very chaotic right now, so to balance it all out I’m really tempted to go...

DIY Modern Gold + Wood Votive

Alright friends, I’m pretty excited about today’s post! I’ve teamed up with Porch and 8 other amazing bloggers to share DIY projects for Thanksgiving all under $30. Pretty fun, right? And if you’re visiting from The Blissful Bee – welcome! So thrilled you are here!  First, I have to admit that our Canadian Thanksgiving has come and gone already and I kind of have my Christmas stuff out already! Eek! But this DIY Modern Gold + Wood Votive will work just as well for any holiday tabletop – including Thanksgiving! Materials Waddle 2-1/4″ Pine Round Bun Foot Wood Table Legs Sandpaper  Damp Cloth Acrylic Paint  Painters Tape  Pliers Drill and Forstner Bit Candles Instructions 1. Remove the old rod using pliers.  2. Drill a hole into the center of your wood, using the drill and a forstner bit that is the same width as your candle.  3. Lightly sand and wipe wood clean.  4. Tape off sections if you want a fun design or to protect paint from dripping in areas you do not wish to paint. Apply first layer of paint. Allow to dry in between each coat. 5. Remove tape. Simply place your candle into the drilled hole and enjoy!  I decided to paint two – one black and gold, but you can choose any color! To keep the project under $30, you may just want to stick to one. I love the mixture of raw wood and a bit of metallic, color or both! It’s certainly perfect for your holiday tabletop, a shelf or even windowsill to add a pop of color and a festive touch.  For more fun...

DIY Scandinavian-inspired Centerpiece

Sometimes, it feels nice to dress up the table for the holidays. As a host, I feel a lot fancier and experienced than I really am – tee hee. And dressing up the table is really not as hard as it seems. You need a few items on hand and a little time.  Be sure to head on over to Curbly for the how-to and come on back to let me know what you think. Does it look ok?!  XOXO,...

The Entryway Makeover | Before

The entryway is where first impressions are made. And if it’s true that first impressions never die, let’s hope it’s a good one! Our entryway definitely had an impact when you first walked in, but it wasn’t a good one. The floors were outdated, the walls were a light green and the banister. Oh, the banister. A clean oak wood, with dark forest green posts, I’m sure it was meant to look modern and unique. But really, it translated as confused and a bit tacky. There was so much going on in such a small space, it was sure to overwhelm all who stepped into our door.  When you try to make your home feel cohesive and smooth flowing, it was always interrupted by our entryway. Something had to be done and quick. But you guys, if I haven’t said it before loud and clear – let me say it again! Paint. And as always, Sherwin-Williams is that super hero that flies in and saves the day.  Boy, does paint give a space that magical touch. So, here was the overall plan: 1. Install new flooring.  2. Paint walls. 3. Remove forest green posts and paint banisters a solid color. 4. Change out lighting.  5. Keep decor clean and simple.  With this is mind, we were more than motivated to start the entryway makeover. Let me be honest, stripping the paint off the posts took us TWO days. It was so incredibly intense and I lost a lot of my enthusiasm. I just kept thinking, what have we started. Because if you’ve done renovations or makeovers before, you’ll know they are always...

Simple Eucalyptus Arrangement

I haven’t done a plant series in a couple weeks, but today I decided to focus on another kind of green! When it comes to florals, I’m a real simple kind of gal. A matter of fact, you can just ditch the flowers and give me the greenery and I’ll be just as happy!  I’ve always loved eucalyptus – of every kind. So I decided to put together a really simple arrangement for our home. It adds the perfect amount of color to the room, especially against the black walls. I even love the shape of the arrangement, as it stretches out quite a bit. It’s perfect for Halloween and and even after that!  This winter and leading into Christmas, I’m really hoping to keep my decor minimal and clean. But still have a bit of fun with it for the kids. I’m really wanting to bring in A LOT of greenery to act as my decor this year. I have some fun ideas, but we will see if it works. I might have to get some tips and pointers from my local florist.  How about you – what kind of arrangements do you gravitate toward? XOXO, Lidy...

How to Create Easy Spider Candle Votives

So, I’ve been getting a lot of questions on my Instagram about where I got my spider votives! But here’s the thing – they aren’t technically meant for candles. I decided to share my little secret with you all today!  I’m all about finding unique decor and when I spotted these Metal Spider Cupcake Stands, I had to get them. I am not a baker and I’m not really a Halloween person, but these simple black stands were screaming to be re-imagined! I think you could keep them out year round too. Which is what I’m all about! I found these large tealights  at IKEA that fit them perfectly and there you have it – a match made in heaven.  They make a great addition to a tablescape or shelf. Put them altogether for a creepy effect or solo for a quirky look in your everyday decor. So now you know my simple solution for adding some character to your home this season, what do you think?!  XOXO,...

DIY Seasonal Terrarium

Well friends, I’m going to be honest. I am not decorating my whole living space for Halloween this year. Ok there, I said it – don’t hate me! As a busy mom, I’m finding less time to do the things I use to do. But little pieces here and there are ok with me. I’m trying to find ways to decorate my home seasonally without having to store more decor away for the year or reorganize an entire room for one holiday! A terrarium is the perfect solution to this problem. Head on over to Curbly for the three different looks I tried out! XOXO,...

Entryway Inspiration

Ok guys, we are working on another design project! We’ve lived in our home for a year now – crazy how the times has just flown by. When we first moved in, we tackled our dining room, master bedroom, family room and recently our formal living room. It’s been a long process, but we are getting there…one room at a time. But now, it’s time to focus on the entryway! I’ve collected some inspiration as we start thinking about our overall vision for this small little area of our home. Below are some ideas as to what I’m really leaning towards. | one | | two | | three | | four | | five | You might notice that these spaces are quite small and that’s because….cue drumroll please…our entryway is really small!! So, how can we make this space feel more open? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see (I’m still trying to figure it out!).  XOXO, Lidy      ...
