DIY Hanging Triangle Mobile

Hello Monday! It’s a bitter sweet week, seeing as the summer is officially over in our home. My hard working hubby is back to teaching and I’m back to being a full time stay at home mommy! I am so thankful for the great life we are able to enjoy and live.  Today, I created another project to fill your home with cheer! I created a modern hanging triangle mobile, using some left over wood craft sticks from a previous project and a hot glue gun! I threw in the bright polka dot garland for some color!  I simply hot glued my sticks to form triangles and pieced them all together. I attached twine and a wood stick to create nice balance at the top, while still keeping the triangle shape. This DIY took minutes and I love how it turned out!   It’s such a great feeling to do something creative on a daily basis. It relieves my mind of worry and stress, keeping me focused on a task that makes me feel happy! My kids had a great time helping me out, since this DIY is very kid friendly (just watch out for the hot glue gun)!  I am still experimenting with materials for my DIY light fixture. I’ve thought about using these light weight wood craft sticks. We’ll see what we can do!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! DIY Geometric Paint By Numbers Poster

I like to try my hand in all sorts of creative outlets. Although my passion is graphic design, I also like to challenge myself any other way I can. Sometimes that is doing things that I don’t often do much of lately and that is draw by hand!  I decided to create my own art piece for the home. I thought it would be fun to create a modern take on paint by numbers. I went with some geometric inspired mountains and added the numbers (even though there is no painting going on here).  I think it just adds another great graphic element to the piece. I also added the word “Explore” to the top: a little reminder to not hold myself back from pursuing new things. Even when I’m afraid of failure or unsure of what the future might hold.  I thought about incorporating colors, but I think the simplicity of this piece is also what makes it. I also added the wood pine crafting sticks in the appropriate length to create my poster. I hot glued two on the top and bottom and simply used twine to hang it. It was an easy solution to feature my print and display it on the wall. For the art itself, I used thick poster paper and a white pencil crayon for my design. It was really simple!  It’s not the most amazing thing I’ve ever hung on my walls, but it feels good to do something out of the box sometimes. I feel satisfied knowing that I am trying new things again! What are you wanting to try your...

Fixture Shopping: DIY Ideas

I’m currently searching out inspiration for a new DIY I have in mind! I am really wanting to create a fun geometric light fixture to go up in our living room! In our 1940s home, there are ZERO light fixtures in our living/dining room area. We’ve had to resort to lamps, but I’m really hoping to modernize the space a bit and bring something in a little less generic.  I am really inspired by these geometric designs. I’m hoping to figure out a way to create my own fixture, by playing with different materials! I am adamant about creating it myself and not so much having to go out and buy anything – I guess I’m up for a challenge!    Top Left / Bottom Left / Middle / Top Right  / Bottom Right I’m finding all the inspiration I was looking for! Now to do some shopping and experiment with some materials! Which one is your favorite?  XOXO,...

Repurposed Southwestern Decor

A while back,  we spotted this fabulous southwestern piece at a yard sale! The design was fabulous and too perfect for our home! For a while, it’s been kind of a table rug for under our computer….what a waste, right? This needed to be repurposed in a bad way! It was just too pretty!  I decided to use it as a piece of art for our walls. The color is nice and neutral, which is a great change with all the bright and bold prints we have on the opposite wall in our living room! I think it’s much more appreciated up there on display!  Just last weekend, I happened to find another woven southwestern rug with the same color and designs. Looks like I might have to find some more space on the wall! I am loving this splash of design in our living room. It still goes with everything, since it is very geometric indeed! Sometimes, you just have to repurpose a thing or two to make it new in a sense. Have you ever had to do anything like that before? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! DIY Deer Wall Decal

I am SO excited about this DIY! It’s one of the projects I had envisioned in my mind and it turned out exactly how I wanted it too! Not to mention, this is something I know I will be doing a lot of in the future. It has so many possibilities! You can do virtually any kind of design on any surface – the wheels in my mind are spinning like crazy! I’m thinking some sort of geometric element next! While doing a little shopping at the dollar store, I came across Magic Cover Self-Adhesive shelf coverings. I thought it would be fun to make a design out of it and see if it would work well on the wall. Sure enough, it works like MAGIC! It’s super easy to create your design using the grids on the back. Plus, it goes on the wall so easily!  If you make a mistake placing it off center or you decide you don’t like it where you placed it, it comes off effortlessly.  What you will need: Magic Cover Pen or pencil Scissors  I decided to create a deer bust, since it goes with the look of our house. I wanted something that could take up the space of one of our empty walls, but not distract too much from other things we have going on. I loved the wood grain of the magic cover and thought it played off our furniture pieces nicely. Plus, it really pops off our white walls. I freehand drew the deer and carefully cut it out with my scissors. I then peeled off the backing and...

Yarn Wrapped Branch Shelf

Inspiration can come from anywhere! Literally. During one of our family walks, I spotted a branch lying on the road. At first I thought it looked an awful lot like antlers. It was my original intended DIY, but sadly my husband tried to throw it out a few times and one of the branches snapped off. Sad. Still, I knew it would be great for some fun and odd project around here!  I decided to wrap yarn around the branch in a few areas, while leaving some of  it’s natural elements to show through. Instead of converting this branch into faux antlers, I went with another idea instead: a yarn wrapped branch shelf! I had some prints hanging around. They are smaller in size and rather rare shapes, so it’s difficult to find frames to fit perfectly. I thought this would be perfect for something shelf-like and display them on the wall in a playful way!  I simply chose three colors of yarn and started to wrap areas of the branch. Using wire, I created some hooks and hot glued them to the back of my branch. The branch is rather light, as well as the pictures, so it wasn’t necessary to use any heavy duty hooks to hank on the wall. I played around with how to hang the branch, I wanted it to be as flat as possible so my pictures would sit against the wall nicely. Once I figured out what worked best, I placed the nails in the wall and hung my new branch shelf!  I love these prints sitting there so contently on the...

DIY Trophy Jar For Storage

You might remember a post I did not too long ago of our trophy cycling jar (which happened to be featured on HGTV blog)!  Well, I had to just share these two with you that we pulled from our storage not too long ago! They were just too fun to disregard.  I love how quirky these jars are! They are great for storing those random little things. Like our vintage marbles, some antique keys and retro letter cubes. I think it adds some flare to our shelf and it personalizes our space. We found a few vintage trophies and grabbed the ones that were the most interesting, such as our fish and eagle.   It’s such an easy project and it is a great DIY to try out! It sure adds a great look to your space. It’s one of those things that catches your eye right away! It’s the perfect mix of bizarre and fabulous!  Since we’ve been slowly updating our living room, we are going through old boxes of stuff and I am so happy we came across these. They were a lot of fun to make and it would be such a waste to leave them in a box out in the garage! What kind of fun DIYs have you been making lately? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Painted Door And Numbers

This past weekend we decided to get some more painting in. We decided to paint our front door black and get rid of the old red. I know, there’s a song about that. For months we’ve been discussing what color to go with, since our house is an odd color to work with. Black seemed classy and the best choice for us.  Now, I’m on the look out for some fun mid century numbers to go with our front door. I’m not sure what look to go for, but I’ve collected a few ideas that I am liking the best so far.   Since our house looks a little plain, I’m wanting some numbers that will stand out. I’m thinking big, bold and beautiful! We are just in the process of figuring out how to display them. It’s just a small change, but it makes all the difference. My hubby and I are big fans of the midcentury design! I am loving these as a choice for our front door!  1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 Which one do you think would work best? It’s so hard to decide! XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! White And Bright: Living Room Makeover

Last week we got so much done around the house! We’ve had a few things on our to-do list for YEARS and we finally crossed them off! The one at the top: paint our yellow walls!  For the last three years I’ve had a very yellow living room. It was fun for a while. It kind of went with our personality as a young couple. Then, over the years it began to grow old, as most colors will do over time. For the last year I’ve been begging my husband to let me paint the walls. At first, we thought adding wallpaper would help. It did for a while, but it was just time to say goodbye to the yellow walls once and for all. For a few weeks we’ve been trying to decide on a neutral color: grey or white. I took some votes, tried out some samples and the winner was clear: Cloud White! It seemed boring at first, but white is great for so many reasons. It’s a super easy color when decorating the room. It brightens everything up and makes the space seem more open and a lot bigger. It’s calming and relaxing. I absolutely love it!  I have to admit, because we had a lot of furniture pieces and prints that were very neutral looking (since a lot can clash with our original yellow walls) the room seemed like it was missing something. We decided to add some color by bringing in a fun patterned rug we’ve had for years and adding some plants! I think having some green touches really makes the room...

Goodbye Yellow

It’s been three years since I’ve whined about our yellow walls. Although I eventually got use to the brightness, I have always regretted picking out that color. It was fun for a short time, but now it’s time for something a bit more simple and sophisticated!  Let me tell you, I thought picking out paint colors was hard in general. But white especially! Thank goodness for the great employees at Benjamin Moore for helping me decide on the perfect shade! Otherwise, I would still be standing there with 50+ swatches in hand.  We started with two choices: gray or white. I asked my Facebook/Instagram friends what their vote would be and I think most of us agreed on white! We sampled both colors on the wall and I think that helped push us more toward our final decision. It was a small section, but the room already seemed to improve a lot with the white!   We are in the middle of trying just a few more samples, then by the end of today we will hopefully have a brand new paint job! I can’t wait to show you the transformation and you can tell me what you think!  XOXO, Lidy  Feel free to leave a comment! You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter,...
