Bohemian Modern Living Room

I’ve been slowly transforming our living room yet again to really suit our relaxed and laid back nature. You might have noticed that I experiment a lot in designing our space, which you can see just a small sample of the previous looks here and here. Walking into the front door, your eyes are immediately level with our living room upstairs. It was really important to me that this room make an impression when friends and family walked into our home for the first time. And if you haven’t noticed, leather is making a comeback my friends! We recently added a new leather sofa and this gorgeous butterfly chair to give our living room that bohemian modern look. Both of these pieces compliment one another, as well as our vintage sofa and other pieces in the room.  Butterfly chairs are an extremely affordable way to introduce leather into the home. It’s versatile and can easily suit a plethora of design styles. In my opinion, butterfly chairs are a must-have this year! They aren’t just pretty to look at, they’re pretty darn comfy too.  We are passionate about the details, which is how we are by nature. So, we stuck with a neutral color palette to keep the room light and airy and added natural elements like plants, wicker baskets, fur, leather and wood. Plus, bringing in some quirk – like hand sculptures and hats on walls.  The room looks inviting, comfortable, modern and mature. It’s exactly what I’ve been trying to achieve, because it really represents both Joel and I as a whole. I am really happy with this room and love just about everything about it – how about you? XOXO,...

Around Here

Well, it was a busy week again, but I’ve had worse. It seems like a common theme amongst friends is balance and it’s not easy to find. Especially when your a mom and trying to work at the same time. It’s a fight between passion and responsibility and one always gets the shaft. But, I’ve really embraced taking it easy and doing what I can without compromising my time with family and friends. Some things are just more important – wouldn’t you agree? 1. I’ve started adding a bit of cinnamon to my morning coffee and it really gives it a nice little kick for fall! Have you tried it before?  2. My parents are pretty amazing. They love to have the kids over whenever they can, but they also love to have one-on-one time with each of them. Since Holden is in school full time, Violet has been spending the week at my folks place. Which, let’s be honest, makes things a lot more quiet around here. And I’ve had to break out the Lego’s for Sebastian, because it’s the only thing that keeps him busy enough without noticing he is lonely without his big brother and sister. Poor buddy.  3. I am gearing up for an entryway makeover in the next month or two, which I am so excited about! I am totally over the green walls and banisters. I’ll most likely be sticking to our black and white theme around here. Cannot wait to share more with you guys!  4. The weather is starting to cool down as of late, which means crackling fires! I am so...

Around Here

Honestly, thank goodness it’s Friday. It has been so busy around here, but I really shouldn’t complain. I’ve decided to share a few shots of what I’m working on around the house at the end of the week. And be warned, some pictures aren’t always going to be pretty. Which I’m excited about, weird right? Morning Light + My Poor Banana Plant Unmade Beds Playing with Hats Breakfast Table + Rush to School  Black + White for Fall  Laundry Everywhere I hope this weekend goes by nice and slow. We have so much to do and so little time. How about you all – are you feeling the same way? XOXO, Lidy  ...

Over-Sized Art For Your Walls

Alright friends, it’s time to swap out your gallery walls and small art prints, because this year things are about to change in design: a switch from busy to big!  I decided this year, I really wanted to make steps toward simplifying my walls when I can, where I can. At heart, I love pretty decor (some may call it clutter), but my walls can really help tame down the space and add some balance. I’ve taken down my gallery wall to help simplify the overall look of the space and introduced this GORGEOUS Minted print to our living room. The Monochrome Sky is a window where I can pretend our home overlooks this peaceful and serene view. I wish!   I love the bohemian vibe our living room has because of one switch! I’ve really struggled with identifying my style in this space, but we’ve finally found a theme that sits well with us – this beautiful print is just the first step to a much bigger change, which I will share soon!   What I really want to know is how you all feel about this new trend? Are you sick of the gallery walls and small prints clumped together? I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for this change!  XOXO,...

Playful Patio Makeover

Hello hello! Hope you are as excited as I am for the summer issue of Merry Mag, full of amazing inspiration from a handful of very talented bloggers! Last week, I shared a sneak peek and today I’m all about showing off our new and improved playful patio makeover! I feel so very lucky to have teamed up with The Land of Nod to give our plain patio a pretty makeover! I really wanted our outdoor space to be a happy and bright sanctuary for our family to enjoy together. LON pieces are so versatile and great for literally every space in the home, including outside! They are always on trend and have plenty to choose from. When working on a little space like this (or any space for that matter) I always start from the ground up. The foundation of my design has to set a strong tone for the rest of the pieces to rely on. I went with the Half Shell Scallop Rug in Turquoise! It had a great pattern that wasn’t too masculine or feminine and the color was so peaceful to me. Next, I brought in our main furniture pieces. Since this area would be more for lounging and relaxing, I brought in four vintage chairs that we thrifted for $2 each – not bad, right? I also added this solid Square Up Stool in Mint for displaying our Cacti collection or for when we just want to put our feet up to read or chill. I also brought in this fabulous Faux-Leather Gold Pouf to use as table/ottoman or just an extra seat if need be!...

DIY Painted Palm Leaf Planter

Tropical prints and patterns are everywhere and totally on trend this year! I see them all around me when I’m out and about, so I came up with a super simple DIY Painted Palm Leaf Planter that you can easily recreate to add a touch of tropics to your home decor this summer! Materials Terracotta Planter Acrylic Paint Paint Brushes Instructions 1. Simply start by painting your base coat using a foam brush. Allow to dry in between coats. 2. Once the base coat has completely dried, take an angled brush to create your palm leaf shapes with a lighter color. Allow to dry.  3. Place your plant into your new planter and enjoy!  This project takes no time at all and you can really have a lot of fun playing with color combinations to achieve some pretty fun pieces! I stuck with a cobalt blue and white to fit in with the rest of my decor, but you can choose any color you wish! This is such a great alternative to spending tons of money on planters, when you could really create one-of-a-kind pieces for your home, garden or patio this summer! What do you think?! XOXO,...

Family Room Reveal

It’s finally time to show off our new and hopefully improved family room! We worked so hard on this space and put so much time into it. I think it paid off – I am so happy with how it turned out and even more thrilled to have had a really good reason to get to work! That is, in honor of  Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week of course! Last week, I shared a sneak peek and progress of our Basement Battles. It was so very confused and uninviting! Don’t you think? The walls were daring, but not in a good way and decorating this space was very limited! It just wasn’t us. My aim was to create a colorful Scandinavian-inspired family room, so it flowed with the rest of the home. You probably hear me using that term a lot. Like, a lot. It’s not that it happens to be a really popular trend right now and all over Pinterest. Truth is, it’s been around forever. But the whole principle of Scandinavian design is a good rule of thumb when decorating any space in your home. Just think simplicity, minimalism and functionality. You can add your personal style in the mix, but always keeping those three principles in mind. And that’s what I really was focusing on in our family space. I do tend to get a little “busy” when bringing in all my collections and knick knacks, but that’s just me adding a little bit of my personal style to the bigger picture. Really, this room is the heart of everything because it’s where we can all spend...

Make Your Own Mod Wood and Paint Coat Hooks

I’ve been itching to make my own wood and paint coat hooks for a while! Now that the basement makeover is complete (the reveal is this Monday – eep!), I had a great place to hang them and I’m so please with how they turned out.  Natural wood looks so great with bursts of color, don’t you think? They really stand out against the white walls and bring a modern and playful touch to the otherwise empty hallway.   If you’re looking for an alternative way to display or organize all that stuff hanging around, be sure to  check out the full tutorial on Curbly today!  XOXO,...
