Front Entry Decorating For Fall Under $50

Hello friends! Today’s post is a little different, so be warned! I’m venturing outdoors instead of staying inside. This feels very strange to me, so I hope you forgive the awkwardness that is this post….I just had to share!  We all have budgets, mine is always on the lower end. I decided to share with you my front entry decor that I was able to acquire under $50! To me, that’s amazing…it seriously adds up. But here’s the thing, if you keep your eyes open and do a few little DIY’s you can really have a lovely outcome. Since this is our first year in our new home, I wanted to focus on making it feel inviting, both inside and out!  1. Keep your eyes peeled on sales: I know, this is obvious. But shop around!! If you see something you love one place, check out the other stores in your area (even the dollar store) for something similar in design. I was able to find a tall ceramic planter for $10 (regular $25). It’s a great statement piece and I can use it for almost anything!  2. Pick a color theme: This year I wanted modern and simple, so I stuck with white and pops of copper! Spray paint can be your best friend as can thrift stores!!  3. Flowers go a long way: You know that mums are a poplular fall flower and they are cheap! For just $10, I was able to buy two bunches of them! PS. They last a long time!!  4. Have fun putting your design together: It’s not rocket science and it’s hard to go...

Happy Wednesday friends – hope the week has been good to you so far! I’m back with another Wednesday’s Wishlist and loving today’s finds!  Did you have a chance to check out our Living Room Progess plans? If not, you really should! I am obsessed with this coffee table for our home!! As the leaves are beginning to fall and change color, I am on the look out for the perfect boot for Joel! Love the look of these boots – they add that pop of color that I’m digging for this season!   I love statement jewelry pieces for my wardrobe and these would be the perfect addition! They have that classy look with that bohemian twist to keep it fun!  Who doesn’t love modern design?! I’m pretty sure our kids need these fabulously minimalistic toys in their life! What kind of things have you been on the look out for these days? XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by email, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram  ...

DIY Quirky Head Planter for Halloween

Yes, it’s true. I’m already talking about Halloween! But how can you not when the leaves are changing and the scenery outside is screaming fall?! Naturally, I had to do a quirky DIY head planter for Halloween. Materials Styrofoam head X-acto knife Pencil Textured spay paint Faux (or real) succulents or other arrangement Directions Make an outline with your pencil on the top of your styrofoam head.  Take your X-acto knife and begin to carefully cut following along your outline. Note: This can take time and is a bit messy!  Once you have the depth you need to place your arrangement, spray paint in a safe area. This will add texture to your planter! Begin to place your arrangement, then display your quirky fall/Halloween decor!  This really is an interesting piece and I might just have to keep it up all year long. I can simply change out the arrangement if I want and add a variety of seasonal decor throughout the upcoming holidays! What do you think of this DIY? Can you see yourself sporting a head planter in your home?! XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by...

Living Room Progress | Mid Century Meets Modern With PlaidFox

You might recall me sharing pictures of our home before. You can see the potential! Moving to Canada in general was hard as an aspiring designer and stylist. I wasn’t sure if there were going to be a lot of choices when it came to decorating our home or any space for that matter. I really wanted to support Canadian companies and brands, because this is home and it’s important to shop local! Then I discovered something AMAZING! Introducing PlaidFox: my new go-to when designing and dreaming up a space! Have you taken a look at their selection friends?! It’s seriously amazing. Best part is, they are fellow Canadians – I’m so proud!!! I love that they provide trendy furniture and decor pieces that are accessible and affordable! I couldn’t be more thrilled! Naturally, I’ve been dreaming up revamping and reinventing our living room space with gorgeous pieces from PlaidFox and here is what I’m thinking: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5a | 5b | 6 | 7a | 7b The space I’m considering revamping is lacking a bit right now and in need of something a little more. I am hoping to utilize the space in front of the fireplace where we can enjoy warm fires in the winter, but not close it off from the entire living room. Here’s what the space could potentially look like with my PlaidFox picks! The space looks so grown up, but still fresh and fun! I love the mid century inspired furniture pieces, pops of gold, pillows with pattern and some texture from the cowhide! What do you think?! There’s just so much goodness to choose from!! I’m feeling pretty excited at...

Sneak Peek | Living Room

You may have noticed that I’m slowly sharing pictures of our new home with you. So far, these are just the befores. We have much work ahead of us – especially painting. But I thought it would be fun to give you another sneak peek. Last week I gave you a glimpse of our dining room and today I thought I’d show you our living room!  I feel like this space has so much potential. The big windows at the front of our house brings in so much light. I am SO happy we have a fireplace in this home. That was one of the things I was looking for when we were shopping houses. Plus, it’s wood burning, so our Christmas season will surely be cozy!  Since our home is a bi-level, we have two living rooms essentially. We use our basement living room as our family room. Meaning, we can make this space a little more adult-friendly and design this space freely! We’ve already started playing around with design concepts, project ideas and decor options.  With the addition of our new couch, this space is starting to feel a little more inviting. I can’t wait to share more of what we have planned with you for this room, but for now what do you think?  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment! Thrifted Chrome and Faux Walnut Round Table

Since moving into our new home, our list of to-dos keeps growing! From painting, to changing out lighting to putting new flooring in. These things will eventually happen, but for now we are doing what we can and making do!  Our kitchen has a significant amount of space compared to our previous one. We plan on building a breakfast nook and so we’ve been on the look out for a table that’s big enough for our family to eat small meals together, but not too big as to take up all the kitchen space.  While thrifting around town, we stumbled upon this chrome and faux walnut round table that was the perfect size. It’s a bit more commercial than we had hoped, but for $15 we couldn’t be picky! It fits perfectly in the space and doesn’t look too bad with our chairs and decor.  So far, it’s been great for the kids to enjoy their breakfasts in the mornings. We’ve had dinner as a family a few times and have enjoyed this little space in our kitchen! We hope to have a built in bench soon with extra storage to go along with this table soon. I think it will make it look a little more cozy!  The chrome and faux walnut are always a lovely match, but I’ve been wondering…should we paint the table top white or leave as is? The walls will also be white and the flooring will also be replaced down the road. For now, I think this space serves it’s purpose and I’m just so happy for all the extra room we have in...

Choosing A Vintage Sofa

I decided to share with you some simple tips on how to choose a vintage sofa! If you are anything like me, buying vintage is a little more risky and tedious, whereas, buying new you usually know what to expect and you can always return it if it’s not quite right for your space. Believe me, I’ve been searching for a loooooong time for that perfect piece. But when you do finally find the right one – it’s magic!  You may have guessed, but yes, we found the perfect mid century sofa! Three things to keep in mind: Texture, Shape and Color. When I was shopping around, I always had these three things in mind. I’ll break it down for you so you can see where my thought process is at!  Texture: This is a great addition to any sofa – whether it be velvet, tweed or leather! Keep in mind all the other pieces you have in your space. You don’t want too much texture and you always want to keep balance. I love layering rugs, so I get a lot of texture from our cowhide and wool rug, plus the million sheep skins laying around! I knew that my dream of a blue velvet was over…for now.   Shape: If you are going to be spending a lot of time (and maybe money) less is always more. Stick to classic shapes and designs that will go with the rest of your space for years to come! If you stick to a more classic design, chances are you can change out pillows, rugs, coffee tables, art, drapes and so much more...

Sneak Peek | Dining Room

It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve moved! I can’t believe how fast time flies, but we have been super busy every day since I’ve taken a little hiatus from the web. I thought it would only be fair to show you a little sneak peek of what we’ve been up to.  I decided to show you a few pictures of our home, starting with the dining room, since moving in. This room has so much space and even has access to our deck which wraps around to the back of the house. The sliding doors allow so much light, which was a huge selling feature for me.  The space fits our mid century cabinet, which use to hide in our tiny kitchen in our old house. Not to mention, this piece happens to match our new dining table perfectly that we got for free from a lovely lady from our old church – thanks again Nancy! It’s huge and can fit anywhere from 4 to 12 people. I’ve decorated a little here and there, mostly displaying our pottery collection, paint by numbers (the top and bottom one I scored from Salvation Army here in Canada for $3) and a few other fun thrifted pieces.  The walls are a light mint green, which call me crazy, kind of go with our decor and style. Eventually, we plan on painting the upstairs space white to brighten it up more and add contrast with our hardwood floors. For now, it’s not bad. We also plan on adding another fun light fixture to our dining space, but that will also come a little later. ...

Wallpaper Inspired By Fall

Today is the big day! We are moving into our new home! It’s all still so surreal, I can hardly believe it. On Sunday, we had the pleasure of meeting the previous home owners and they gave us a little tour of our soon-to-be home. They were a wonderful couple who had lived in this house 20+ years. They raised their kids in this home and neighborhood and now they were passing it onto us. I felt emotional for them just thinking about it. They have loved and taken care of this house for years and you can really tell!  Naturally, we are making plans of how to make this house a home for us now. There are a few things we would like to do sometime in the next coming weeks. And since fall is quickly approaching, I picked out a few wallpaper designs inspired by the next season ahead! Perhaps an accent wall in our dining room? We are still in the early stages of deciding! I’m still kind of tempted to paint an accent wall black….so many choices. 1 2 3 4 5 6  Which one would you prefer? But seriously, I’m kind of loving this design – it’s very retro inspired and I can seriously see this on a wall in our dining room!  And lastly, we might skip wallpaper altogether and just paint an accent wall black like the one below. So many choices, I can’t decide! Thank you for being so patient as we’ve been undergoing A LOT of change!!! I’ll be posting before pictures soon, so stay tuned. There are a lot of...
