With my husband’s mad skills and drive to learn new things, he was able to make for me this amazing coat rack I have drooled over for years inspired by Eames! He recently took up welding, which I thought was crazy at first! Until I started pointing out all the pieces I wanted for my home and he would magically make them appear. I think I’ll keep him!
I know this isn’t something everyone can do, but with enough drive you can teach yourself so many amazing trades and skills. Although welding was a challenge, with a bit of time and practice you can create some amazing things! Oh, and the wooden hooks….he turned those using a lathe…I’m telling you, he’s my caveman squishy.
I’m not saying, take up welding, but I think it’s important to challenge yourself and think about what you can create without having to spend hundreds of dollars. Although I would have been happy to have purchased the Eames Hang-It-All Coat Rack (not so much the bank account), I was pretty amazed that we managed to save $200. My husband and I are all about making modern design accessible to those of us that can’t necessarily drop money like it’s hot.
I am so thankful to have such a handy husband, whom a lot of these amazing projects wouldn’t be possible! I love the modern sleekness to this simple coat rack. It’s not clunky and I love how it’s on the wall, so we don’t lose any floor space! I can’t necessarily start up welding or wood lathing, but I have pushed myself to try new things as well. Recently, I’ve taken up calligraphy (much more appropriate for me, I think). It’s challenging, but I am loving the learning process and seeing what kinds of fun things I can create with a bit of will power, ink and pad of paper! Have you challenged yourself to start any new hobbies lately?
What do you think of this fabulous coat rack? We need one for every room – easier said than done!
