But using corn oil for hair is no less as it’s quite rich in some of the essential vitamins which are necessary for hair growth and nourishment. It consists of Vitamin E and K, which are beneficial for blood circulation and preventing hair loss. Corn oil also has an abundance of poly-unsaturated and mono-saturated fatty acids along with Omega-6 and Omega-9 fats, which helps in locking up the hair moisture, thus treating dry hair.
How is Corn Oil Extracted?
Corn oil is extracted from the germ of corn, which is a part of the seed that’s highly rich in nutrients and, of course, oil. Usually, corn oil is extracted using the cold-pressed method; however, there are different ways of doing it, such as hexane method, solvent, aqueous extraction, etc. Cold-pressed corn oil is mild yellow in appearance.
Benefits of Using Corn Oil for Hair
1. Moisturizes the hair and scalp
Corn oil penetrates deep into the skin and moisturizes the hair very well. It nourishes the scalp in a way that the hair gets a healthy environment for growth. The presence of Vitamin E in corn oil improves blood circulation to the hair follicles along with protection from cell damage. That’s not all; vitamin K absorbs calcium and prevents hair loss. Corn oil also locks moisture in the hair, thus, preventing dryness, keeping hair follicles and hair strands well-hydrated, making them shiny.
2. Protection from heat
Hairstyling is a part of our daily life; however, it damages the hair so much so that split ends develop at the end of the tresses. Excessive styling also makes the hair dry and frizzy. If you’re tired of different hair treatments, then try using corn oil after styling. This oil has a high heating point, so applying it at the hair ends after styling will protect your hair from further damage along with providing the much-needed nourishment.
3. Smooth and frizz-free hair
The presence of Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids in corn oil gives your hair the perfect smoothness which you crave for. These two acids make an ideal balance for keeping away the dryness of hair and making them healthier and smoother like never before.
How to apply corn oil?
You can apply corn oil in various ways. You can choose the best method which suits you the best.
Take a little bit of oil and apply it on your hair, beginning from scalp to the ends. Massage in a circular motion and then cover your head with a shower cap. Now, leave it overnight and wash your hair the next day with shampoo.
Another way of applying the oil is by heating it a little bit and then massage it on the scalp. Bring it along the ends and leave overnight. Cover your head with a shower cap and wash in the morning using a mild shampoo.
Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of corn oil in your shampoo and apply it beginning from the scalp till the ends and leave it for 5 minutes. Make sure you only add oil in the required amount of shampoo and not to the entire bottle.
Blending corn oil with essential oils like tea tree or rosemary oil will make it suitable for aromatherapy.
A tip to remember
While purchasing corn oil, buy the one which is suitable for hair and not the regular cooking oil. Cooking oil is usually cheaper when mixed with other oils; however, this may react with your skin making it red and itchy.
