Modern and Monochrome Halloween Decor and Photo Contest!

I teamed up with Wayfair today to show off my favorite Halloween decor that I’m sporting around my home! This year I wanted to add a bold statement by going with a very monochromatic theme! I’ve reorganized and decorated our shelving unit with black, white and grey pieces to really stand out as a whole. I’ve made sure not to go too overboard with traditional Halloween decor by bringing in pieces that could potentially be used in my everyday decor to create a modern vibe, such as my ceramic hand, skull and head collection. Which, when brought together in one space can really look a little spooky! I’ve also brought in my DIY pumpkin planters, painted pumpkins and owls to tie it all together! If you’ve ever been to Wayfair’s Shop the Look section, you probably noticed that it’s a great resource for inspiration and design! Now, they are expanding even further by creating a new category of Seasonal Décor, which you can be a part of! Wayfair is looking for Halloween Photos that are so good they’ll raise the dead!  All you have to do is upload your photos HERE (up to 5 photo entries per household) and Wayfair will select their favorite to win a $500 Wayfair Gift Card. Amazing right?! Thought so! This is going to be a lot of fun, so don’t hesitate to share your creative Halloween decor! Good luck friends!!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by... read more

Adventures in Chicago

You might have noticed it’s been a little quiet around here the last week. I might have forgotten to mention on the blog that I was taking off to Chicago for a week – sorry about that! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably figured it out with all the endless photos of our trip. This was the longest we’ve been away from our kids in a long time! I am SO thankful for my folks who watched them while we were away! The kids had such an amazing time with their Oma and Opa and that allowed me to really just enjoy the time away…because, let’s be honest, the two of us rarely get away together like this! I can’t tell you how AMAZING Chicago was! The first three days we attended an amazing conference in Elgin, IL. It was such a great way to begin the week refreshed and renewed. Day three we headed into Chicago by train – it was a fun little adventure! We walked across the city with our massive suitcase and quickly came to the realization that the pedestrians are crazy! They bravely walked across the streets whenever they felt like and I made the bad choice of being a follower with no fear…until you were playing a game of chicken with the traffic. Never. Again. I started obeying the law and watched the lights. We checked in to our hotel, which was at such an amazing location – walking distance to everything and super close to the “L” for easy access around the city. We were in and out, ready to seize the day! We headed... read more

Hello Makeover: Painting Walls White

The dining room makeover is in full swing people! There is so much planning, time and a whole lot of energy that goes into these projects. But it is so worth it all! We’ve partnered with Sherwin-Williams to give this space a much needed overhaul! This, my friends, is beyond exciting!  A couple years ago, Sherwin-Williams introduced designer-inspired interior and exterior paint colors (wallpapers too!) to US homeowners. It had such positive feedback that HGTV and Sherwin-Williams decided to release their amazing products into Canada as well!  I was so lucky as to have the honor of giving HGTV Home By Sherwin-Williams a try and I must say, I am without a doubt sold! I can’t help but get just a little excited when I find paint that not only looks amazing, but has fantastic quality that I know I’ll just keep going back for more! So, good-bye green walls that were just not right for me and hello fresh white walls! In the end, we went with Incredible White (7028), which was the perfect shade for us! This is just a little sneak peek of the room transformation, but I will be giving you a formal introduction soon, so stay tuned! Also, you might have noticed my official project hashtag on Instagram, #hellomakeover? I wish I could take all the credit, but really it was all Joel’s idea. It’s a fun way to see what we are doing in each space in our home. Feel free to follow along!  What are your thoughts on white? P.S. If you are getting ready to repaint a room in your home, make sure to check out... read more

Hanging Pumpkin Planters

Bring Vegas Home

When I was asked by Vegas.com to be part of the Bring Vegas Home challenge, I couldn’t refuse! They asked me to put together a room design based on The Cosmopolitan hotel as my inspiration. What really caught my eye were the beautiful hotel suites! Here is what I came up with!  1.  I noticed the suites had beautiful, bright lighting. In my room design, I picked this lighting because of it’s warm brass color and unique shade shape! 2. The large black and white prints give the room a classic and timeless look, like these prints here and here. 3. The bedding was clean and simple, but I threw in a few modern pieces from here and here to give it a little more personality! 4. I loved the mirror in the suite with that lovely design, so I wanted to add a little bling to create the same effect. Something that would similarly catch your eye, much like this one. 5. The furniture in the suites had nice curves, were simple and had classic shapes. A chair like this one is a must! 6. The touches of natural wood in the hotel suite really created a welcoming environment, so adding a side table like this will create the same feeling. 7. Having a bold rug can create an instant sense of style and tone to the space and this one would be a fabulous addition to the other pieces in the room. 8. The pillows in the suite were very asian inspired, giving the room a very distinct vibe. Pillows like this, this and this are very similar in style! 9. The bed is the... read more

Wednesday’s Wishlist

I’m back with another Wednesday’s Wishlist! The weather has been so amazing here lately (knock on wood), but I know soon enough that will all be changing. I’ve gathered some seasonal favorites this week to prepare for the cold months ahead!  I am very intrigued by these brass Snake Candleholders! I’m thinking they would be perfect for Halloween decor and I would even go as far as keeping these out all year round!! Aren’t they fabulous?!  Cold weather means dressing a little warmer! These Plaid Socks are a must for the mister!  I might already own this Plaid Scarf in red, but I love it so much I would go back and buy another! It’s both ridiculously cozy and very trendy for the upcoming season!  I’m making the kids play outside as much as possible while the weather is cooperating. But soon enough, they will be indoors  a little more often. Why not plan ahead with some fun craft ideas in this Martha Stewart’s Favorite Crafts for Kids? I think so!  Hope your week has been treating you well so far!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by... read more

Updated Kitchen Lighting

Hey all! I’m back from a lovely break with my family celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving! Yes, I’m stuffed to the bone and ready to take on the rest of this week.  I’ve teamed up with Lamps.com today to share with you our fabulous updated kitchen lighting! (Don’t mind our cream walls – painting will definitely be in the near future). Now let’s be honest, our lighting before wasn’t horribly out of date. A matter of fact, it was quite bearable and we would have been happy to have kept it around if need be. But it just wasn’t the right fit. Why settle when there are so many options out there that are not only trendy, but affordable! When Lamps.com asked if I was interested in working with them, I couldn’t say no! They have such a lovely selection of lighting and I knew we would find that perfect piece to hang in our kitchen nook area. We took down our old lighting and the space already began to feel more cohesive. We finally decided on this chandelier by Hinkley. It’s simple, current, but still has that mid century vibe to tie in all our other existing pieces! The brushed brass look is subtle, which is what I wanted for the kitchen. I didn’t want it to appear too formal, since this room was more of our casual eating area.  The lighting before sort of blended into the background and really didn’t stand out at all. Now we have a beautiful piece that’s functional and the perfect compliment to our DIY marble top table and thrifted buffet! It’s a lovely accessory... read more

DIY Marble Table Top

You might remember this chrome and faux walnut table we thrifted a month ago? It was the perfect fit for our kitchen nook, but after moving in our mid century buffet, the table needed some help! Suddenly there was just a little too much clashing going on in our little space.  I’ve always been such a huge fan of marble top tulip tables like this one! They were just a bit out of my price range, so I was happy to take this $15 table. But then I was pleasantly surprised when Joel decided to give this guy a little makeover! Simply using grey, black and white spray paint, he was able to create a marble design. He added high gloss to give it some shine and voila! A new table! It completely changes the look of the entire room and I couldn’t be more happy.  Before the room felt heavy and a bit dark. Now, the space feels light and open – amazing what a little DIY can do! I might not have been able to have my dream table, but this one is a great alternative if you don’t have that kind of money to spend!  What do you think of this simple transformation? Be sure to check back next week – I’ll be revealing our new kitchen lighting soon!  XOXO, Lidy Feel free to leave a comment!  You can also follow Hello Lidy by... read more
