What Is Baking Soda?

Baking soda, alias sodium bicarbonate, is an odorless compound in crystalline solid or powder form. Apart from being a kitchen staple, baking soda has countless other household and gardening uses, along with some astounding health benefits.

What Is Vinegar?

Vinegar means ‘sour wine’ in French and is an acidic aqueous solution that can be obtained from any fermentable source. Vinegar has different types, and each has its smell and flavor. Besides its cleaning ability, vinegar has therapeutic properties as well.

Why Do Toilets Clog?

If your toilet gets clogged more often, below are some reasons that may be the root cause of the issue.

1. A Blocked Toilet Trap

A toilet trap is either a P or S-shaped porcelain fixture that holds the stagnant water in place and restricts the sewer gas from invading your bathroom. But when you flush many non-flushable items, this trap gets blocked and causes toilet clogging.

2. Flushing Non-flushable Items

Toilets are meant to flush those items that easily dissolve in water, such as toilet tissues and human waste. But flushing non-flushable items such as Q-Tips, cotton balls, and wet wipes restricts drainage and causes constant clogging issues.

3. A Blocked Plumbing Vent

Roof vents are a major part of a toilet’s plumbing system. When the plumbing vent gets blocked due to leaves, dead animals, or other stuff, the drain flow reduces, and as a result, the toilet gets clogged. To solve this, you’ve to call a plumber for help.

4. A Low-Flow First Generation Toilet

If the above reasons are not responsible for a clogged toilet, then your old low-flow toilet is the real culprit. The first-generation toilet is designed to save water, but it lacks enough pressure to flush everything out. If your toilet commode belongs to the mid-1990s, you’ve got an old toilet that needs a replacement.

  1. Thank you for ssharing this! The only thing I want to add is that plumbers don’t recommend using off-the-shelf cleaners to clean or unclog the toilet. Harsh chemicals can damage porcelain and old metal pipes and even soften modern PVC piping.
