Link-Up Party?

Did someone say Link-Up Party? So, having only been blogging for just over a year now I find myself at a point of stagnation. I am sitting comfortably, but not really going anywhere. I was doing some research online as to how to get more traffic coming to your blog and I found a lot of blogs were participating in these “Link-Up” parties. Of course, I went back online and googled link-up parties to see what that was all about.  After reading more into it, I decided it was a brilliant idea! It’s so much fun to see a huge blogging community come together and share all their amazing ideas with one another. Not to mention, a great way to get your blog out there as well. This week I have participated in 4 link-up parties. I’m still not too sure how it all works exactly, so if you are a blogger out there and you’re reading this please give me some kind insight! This is something I may try to do more often. That way, I can ensure people are actually seeing some of the fun projects and hard work I put into this crazy old blog of mine! Perhaps I will pick up a few brilliant ideas too!  This weeks Link-Up Parties!  Don’t worry, even if you aren’t featured you may still get a lot of blogger’s interested in what you are doing! I keep telling myself to keep it up and not worry about it! This should be a fun experience and an exciting hobby!!! ...

Halloween: The small stuff It’s amazing how these little pumpkins canadd so much festivity  I decided I would do a post on just the little details of our halloween decor. It mainly consists of mini pumpkins ( I love the white ones) and an owl my brother bought me from a thrift store in Canada. Like I said, we didn’t get too crazy this year. In less than a week, it will  be November…the month of turkey and deliciousness. And just like that I will have to take down my halloween decor! Nonetheless, it is fun to make your house festive!  My thrifty owl and mini pumpkins Stackable pumpkins My creepy one-of-a-kind picture frame Love my flameless candles...

Halloween Decor: Giant Yarn Spider Web I came across this fun tutorial online a few weeks ago. I finally decided to sit down and try it out while my husband and I were watching The Walking Dead (how appropriate for Halloween, no?). It didn’t take me too long to complete and I had a lot of fun doing it, surprisingly! I think I might do this with another frame, but a little smaller and perhaps a different color yarn. It’s super simple, cute and matches the rest of my subtle halloween decor in our home. All you will need for this project:An old frame, which you can find at any thrift store (you may or may not want to spray paint it a fun color, I liked the wood texture of mine so I kept it natural)Yarn (your choice in color)Directions:For simple directions and pictures to help guide you, check out this blog where I found the tutorial. You will be sure to get some fun results!!  There you go, a fun project that is cheap and effective! Hope you have fun with this! I think I may have to try this again next year, but get a little more creative with the colors! ...

Halloween Garland: Simple, Easy and Cheap I am not one to decorate wildly every holiday that comes around. Although I love to have an excuse to go out and spend money on all kinds of fun holiday decor, it isn’t a necessity. I’m more excited to see the cute costumes come halloween day. In our neighborhood, you will see all kinds of decorations inside and outside the homes. Some are actually cute, while others are quite scary! I like to keep my halloween decor simple, classy and clean. This year we have kept it to a minimum, but this could very well change when we have kids. This is definitely a holiday for them! This year, I decided to make a tiny garland for one of our shelves in the living room. It isn’t anything fancy or amazing. It’s just enough to add a little something extra for the holiday though! I scrounged up a few scraps to reuse and also went out to grab a few things that were super cheap! I have a nice neutral paper that I mixed with a few colorful ones to make the garland pop. I had some left over stickers from a previous craft I had done that are circular and have letters and symbols on them. I also got a cheap ribbon that was discounted because there was barely a yard left, so I got a nice deal on it! In just 10 minutes, I had all my stuff cut out, put together and hanging. We now have a simple “Boo” garland up!  If you are one of those people that means...

Get Creative with Chalkboard Paint I have been pinning all sorts of fun projects on Pinterest using something as simple as chalkboard paint! I have been wanting to paint something fun for a while now, I just had to think about what exactly to paint. I have thought about painting pumpkins this year, but they rot too quickly in the hot California sun. So, I decided to do something a little more long term. I decided to take one of the plain white walls in our kitchen and paint it with the chalkboard paint. I thought it would be a fun accent wall that we could use as art, but also practical things. Like making to do lists or grocery lists as we run out of things during the week. My wonderful husband took his Saturday off and painted the wall for us, I think it looks wonderful! It’s so simple and I can use it for so many things!  This was a super easy and successful project. Don’t be afraid to try something fun and new!! ...

Halloween Party  For the last few years, my husband and I have hosted a Halloween party at our home. Our friends, husband and I get all dressed up and we have a grand time! The costumes are half the fun! There’s always plenty of food, games and good company! This year, I thought it would be fun to start a new tradition, by having a theme! This is something that will be easy to continue when we all start having families, of course it will be a bit more kid friendly! There are PLENTY of sites out there as a guide to a great party! If you are interested in hosting a kid-friendly party, check out this site! There are tons of great ideas, recipes and decorating ideas. I am SO excited to start planning this! Here is our theme, which you will notice is based on the fabulous 80’s movie:  At first I thought it would be hard to plan this out, but I decided to keep it simple. I am going to take certain elements of the movie and make it a bit more of a classier affair (the movie is a bit dark). I will keep the decor black, white and some patterns. I’m hoping I will get my husband to make a soundtrack to our evening!  The soundtrack to the movie is fantastic..especially Harry Belafonte’s “Shake Senora”! Here is the invite I made based on a site I LOVE! Hopefully these will be sent out this week!!  Here are a very small selection of ideas I have and of course, Pinterest will help me out with more...

Mason Jar: One-of-a-kind picture frame Today I had to go back one last time to the Peddler’s Fair to see if there were any other items I just had to bring home. We walked out of there with a few things, one of them being a couple old, rusted mason jars. I love these jars for so many reasons…they can be used for a variety of things in the home. Not just for canning!  I came across this fabulous idea for using mason jars as one-of-a-kind picture frames. The directions are simple and the result is cute. My husband thinks its even a bit creepy, which is perfect for the Halloween season!  First, get a clean mason jar you think you can fit a standard size photograph in (4×6). I loved the jars I found at the peddler’s fair because the lids are nice and rusty. It gives it a more antique look.   Then, place the photograph in the jar however you would like it to face. I decided to do two pictures so that no matter what way the jar would turn, you would see a photograph.  Lastly, pour oil in the jar over the picture slowly until the jar is full. There you go, easy as that! Now you have a unique frame for the home!   Optional: You can tie a ribbon or string around the top to add a little something extra. Depends on you!  Like I said before,  this would also make great decor for the Halloween season. There’s just something so very creepy about it! ...

Something Old: Soon to be new My husband and I have been on the search for a new (old) TV stand for our living room. Right now we have a piece we bought a couple years ago at a yard sale, which we painted black. It’s a bit small and doesn’t quite go with our overall decor.   After checking out countless yard sales Saturday, we decided to head to the thrift stores to see what was available. I think we looked at six or seven stores until we finally found what we were looking for. Our decor looks very vintage, so it had to match what we already have. We own a record stand that’s from the 60s, so we were hoping for a similar style. For a little while, it wasn’t looking like we were having much luck. Sure enough, we spotted an old television stand from the same era at the back of a very dark and crowded thrift store downtown. The TV has been removed, but all the original hardware is intact.  So happy! I have been inspired for a couple years with Design Sponge. They take the most impossible looking furniture and transform them into something so beautiful. Here are a few ideas my husband and I were inspired most by.1. White-on-wood combination 2. Interesting ways to use chalk board paint 3. Shutter Wood Embellished Dresser Of course, we both love the wood and white combination, which seems to be very popular this year in DIY design. Here is our 60s TV stand which we hope to paint sometime this week. We are both very busy, but...

City in a Tree

City in a Tree This week I decided to try something new. I submitted a design to Threadless in hopes it might be approved and printed! So far, it has gotten approval and is currently up on display. I am super excited and hoping it will be picked for print! Here is what I get if this happens!   $2,000 in cash $500 Threadless Gift Certificate (can be redeemed for $200 cash) $500 in cash each time your design is reprinted Alumni Club membership including a Medal of Honor and other goodies You can help this happen by simply scoring my design a 5! I would appreciate it more than you know, I have never done anything quite like this before. Even if it doesn’t get printed, the experience has been a blast! There are only 3 more days left in the running, so let’s see what happens! Thank you to all my family and friends that have been so supportive. ...
