New kind of love While sitting here in this old familiar house I once called home (yes, I am breaking the rules and blogging while on vacation in Canada), I came across some finds I just had to share! I was enjoying a delicious cup of coffee and picked up an issue of Vogue magazine. I spotted a little ad promoting what looked like an old school Motown-style band. They consist of 4 girls that have a very vintage sound and look like they stepped right out of the 60’s. If music interests you at all, you should turn up your speakers and check out The Like. They might be something that you’d be interested in.  Also, check out this awesome Magazine….I think if you enjoy the world of vintage you will enjoy the look and feel of this! Lula magazine is “Created for people of the world who love fashion, music, art, & make believe. Lula is gentle, whimsical and ethereal in tone, mixing high fashion to fall in love with and interviews that feel like late night chats with people you wish you knew”. Awesome stuff!... read more

A little vacation never hurt anybody…. This might be my last post for a few days, as I am leaving California to go visit my native land: Canada. I decided to leave you all with a piece of happiness and inspiration until I am back again! This week I have been trying to organize my thoughts and passions. I have so many dreams I want to chase and so many things I want to create. I read this random quote today:“Sewing has made me a happy happy girl. I highly recommend learning how to use your machine – you won’t regret it – and will find yourself spending less and less time at the mall, and more time online figuring out how to make your own version of some of your favorite $300 dollar dresses! Plus, having a reason to browse fabric shops. That’s my favorite part.” -Jill of LuneI came across Lune Vintage not too long ago and I am hooked. She is living her dream and that is what I am after. You should pay her site a little visit and hopefully that will stir up some passion and creativity in you. Perhaps you will start something you’ve always wanted to try. I know I have and it’s been a wonderful adventure since!  This is such an amazing idea! An online sewing class for beginners. Check out more here! Love love love this! A pop up vintage store. Seriously. Who comes up with these ideas?! I like the look of this simple fringe necklace. It would be super easy to recreate. Project! This picture caught my eye. Oddly enough, I... read more

A Brightened Day To me, it doesn’t get much better than fresh flowers. It’s simple, somewhat cheap and can be an easy fix for an attitude makeover. If I can, I try to keep fresh flowers in the house as often as possible. Most of the time my wonderful husband will bring some straight from our rose bush in the back yard. It’s amazing how it lifts your spirit and makes a room seem more fresh and inviting. This particular bouquet was purchased this time by my husband. We celebrated our three year anniversary the other day. It was the most simple gift, but my favorite. It doesn’t have to be frilly or expensive…sometimes the little things are the most cherished and remembered. ... read more

Summer Swoon  One of my favorite hot spots this summer is Ventura.  It’s a gem hidden between the mountains and the ocean. The perfect distance to drive, have a day at the beach, grab some food and do a little shopping. This time around, I came across a fairly new store that instantly sucked me in. Located in the El Jardin Patio, you will find Love Fox Vintage, a quaint little shop that surprises your senses with it’s warm and inviting interior. From ceiling to floor you will find all things recycled and restored. It’s a haven for those that are searching for one of a kind items and for those that dare to be different while doing it in style. They carry vintage pieces from the 50s to 80s, as well as handmade jewelry. Their mission is simple: to encourage their community and beyond that there is more to love in the not-so-new. It’s a brave stance to encourage people to try something different than their regular spots in a stuffy mall. You can find Love Fox Vintage on Etsy, facebook or their blog! I encourage you to check them out, you won’t be disappointed! ... read more

Goodbye July, Hello August It’s time to roll over the calendar and welcome another month! I love August, even though it means that summer is coming to an end. I spent a few minutes this morning searching for my new desktop calendar. I came across this beautiful picture. It seems to sum up August to me: the last of those beautiful summer nights, relaxing days and the fun adventures out of town……... read more

DIY Ever since the Renegade Craft Fair, I’ve been itching to do some sort of project. Not too long ago I was browsing design sponge and I spotted what looked to be an easy DIY project! Unfortunately, I didn’t find any instructions on how to go about doing this task so I decided to wing it. I’ve been looking for something fun and original to fill this empty wall in our master bedroom. I thought I would try this out and see how it turned out. If it was a flop, at least I tried! ::Materials:: Circular Wooden Embroidery Hoops: your choice as to how many and what sizeVarious patterns of fabric: your choice of color and design. Just remember too much is better than not enough. Fabric scissorsIron: this is optional, but I like to iron out my fabric before projects, wrinkles are the worst. ::Directions:: Step 1 Iron out your fabric and make sure all the fine wrinkles are no longer visible Step 2 Unscrew first hoop and seperate the inner/outer hoop. Step 3 Place fabric in between both hoops and push smaller hoop back into the larger hoop. Step 4 Pull fabric tightly through both hoops and slowly tighten screw on the outer hoop. Make sure the fabric is as tight and secure as possible. Step 5 Fasten screw as much as it will allow and cut excess fabric along the sides of the hoop.  Step 6 Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each of your hoops Now you’re ready to hang your easy and fun DIY project! Suddenly, that itch is no longer there…for now anyway! ... read more

Ice Cream Heaven There is this local ice cream shop not too far from where we live. We often justify going there and treating ourselves to a small sundae if we ride our bikes. Dewar’s has been opened since 1909, the interior is still very much the same as it was a century ago. It’s super cute and the ice cream and candy is delicious and homemade too! It’s only local to California’s San Joaquin Valley, but it’s recognized across the country. Let’s just say you wouldn’t want to miss out on this small gem if ever you pass through the area. That is, if you like ice cream or candy. But who wouldn’t! My husband and I have tried almost everything on the menu….their famous black and white, which has one large scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with their scrumptious hot fudge.  Next they add a large scoop of chocolate ice cream and yummy whipped marshmallow. We’ve also managed to share their classic banana split and of course their Sundae’s. Every flavor of ice cream is freshly made there, which you can tell by the creamy texture. They also have a menu for those who prefer non-dairy. If ice cream isn’t your thing, they have a little candy shop that makes there own handmade chocolates and chews. We’ve seen how they are made and it’s pretty amazing! The other day we made our way to this very familiar place and decided to try a tasty new treat. The Dewar’s ice cream sandwich. Out of all the things I tried at this ice cream shop, I have to say that... read more

It’s a new thing I was browsing some blogs today and I came upon a wonderful idea. I find myself on my computer so often; whether I’m browsing other blogs, working on my own or editing pictures. I usually don’t put a whole lot of thought as to what my desktop background looked like. Recently, I borrowed the idea of having a new desktop calendar for each month. Not only is this helpful to keep track of days and dates (which I find it hard to keep track of as it is), but you can have a lot of fun searching for unique designs. This month is almost over, but I thought I would put one on for the last few days that remain. I’m also looking into tutorials to help you design your own. It should be a lot of fun, we’ll see if it actually happens!  July... read more

Renegade Craft Fair, what can I say?  So, Sunday we went to check out the LA Renegade Craft Fair. It was a hot day as we walked the endless aisles of vendors and awe inspiring crafts. The sun didn’t seem to bother me, as my attention was devoted to each unique artists work in their neatly displayed booths. There were so many things to look at, it’s hardly fair to be that talented or motivated. After a while, we began to feel like cattle as we grazed through the crowd on to the next cool thing. I didn’t mind. I couldn’t help but feel the need to race home, get on my sewing machine and start working on some sort of project. Maybe even take up crocheting, jewelry making, screen printing or design a Tee shirt. All I know is that leaving that place made me sad that it was all over. I am deeply inspired that people are so talented to come up with some truly remarkable pieces of work. Each is so unique and special. If you ever tried to sew something or make anything from scratch, you would know the hard work and time that goes into it. I can only imagine how much time people put into their projects at this fair. Here are a few moments I was able to capture as I drooled over my Sunday Fun day at the LA Craft Fair.  The Urban Craft Center held a booth at the fair this year. I love the idea of this! UCC is a place where people gather to craft in the Santa... read more
